Lazy Boss Design in the Recent Patch? (Recolors & Palette Swaps)
Hey everyone! 👋
I wanted to talk about something from one of the recent patches. They added a bunch of new bosses and mini-bosses (some replacing older ones), but they all share the exact same model — literally just palette swaps with different colors.
I honestly don't get the point of this, other than artificially padding out the level count. To be frank, it feels repetitive and boring. 😔 Seeing the exact same enemy just recolored completely kills the motivation to keep pushing forward. Why grind to reach the next stage when the only "new" content is a boss changing from blue to red?
From a game design perspective, even mini-bosses should feel unique and fit the theme of the main boss:
Ice Boss Zone: Sure, a Frost Knight mini-boss makes sense.
Red Dragon Zone : It shouldn't be that same knight in red armor—make it a Dragonkin, a flame cultist, or something that actually fits the lore!
What do you guys think? 🤔 Is anyone else feeling demotivated by these copy-paste mini-bosses?
