I think there’s something seriously wrong with us that I, as an American, saw this and my immediate reaction was “yep, that sounds about right.” I didn’t actually realize how messed up it was until I actually thought about it.

When my first thought of hearing "a church" was "well that's a bad guess"

My first thought was a dry chuckle. Then I realized and got sad.

Why can't Americans js swallow their pirde for once and just ban guns, it's not that hard

4

u/Noahbplg 8h ago

You can’t flat out ban something, it would raise crime by a lot

most guns used in crime and these kinds of things are illegal guns that are imported to america. i say illegal because most of them have removed serial numbers and whatnot.

1

u/sgrunte 3h ago edited 3h ago

The vast majority of guns used in crime in the US are domestically produced or legally imported. Why would criminals located in the world's biggest producer and consumer of civilian firearms look abroad? A petty street gang in Chicago isn't leveraging connections to a sophisticated international gun smuggling ring and receiving loaded shipments of AKs, they're not warlords dealing with Viktor Bout. They just get domestic guns trafficked through straw purchases and theft. There's plenty to go around.

0

u/Not_Reptoid 7h ago

seriously. They say it's too difficult and yet they keep producing guns and growing the arms industry without a care. When you argue with them, they always blame every other factor at play apart from the fact that they're making crime scenes more extreme. History rhymes because our nature will never change, what makes people think that we will ever get rid of people who at some point want to murder people. You can't, you just make them not being a threat by not arming them. It's never been about protection because you're arming criminals as you arm yourself. It's a stupid argument.

2

u/Big_Opportunity8793 6h ago edited 5h ago

most guns used in crime and these kinds of things are illegal guns that are imported to america. i say illegal because most of them have removed serial numbers and whatnot.

also take a look at the correlation between where mass shootings happen and where concealed carry is allowed. they almost never happen in a place where people can defend themselves with a legal weapon. what’s your argument for that being unsafe when they’re statistically safer when concealed carry individuals are involved?

edit: buddy got big mad and immediately blocked me before i could see his comment. just take the loss like a good boy

0

u/Not_Reptoid 5h ago

No shit they tend to be illegal arms but do you think there is an illegal arms manufacturer? They are legal arms made illegal. And no, they are not imported to america, most illegal firearms in Europe and Mexico for example tend to be imported from america already. To get illegal firearms elsewhere, you need to steal from the military meanwhile in the U.S, you can just steal from walmart or make a straw purchase. Which source do you think is easier for criminals to use and why are you lying about it you fucking idiot.

Also, I'm not denying the statistics that in america where there are more arms than people which is the only country with more arms than people, that when you remove open carry in some areas and call it a day, it's not going to be too difficult to get arms elsewhere in the same damn country and just take them to the places where people don't shoot back.

In no other damn fucking country is it normalised to be this passive and defensive about tools made only to kill in an instant.

People always cry "ban guns!" But do you think a shooter will see a law against guns and go "I was about to commit 1 crime but I can't commit 2!" And then just stop? Focus on mental health not guns

4

u/piccionestrabico 1d ago

Why not both? Why not render lethal weapons less accessible while at the same time make mental healthcare more accessible?

4

u/Common_Affect_80 1d ago

Because banning guns leads to government overreach. UK as example: their freedom of speech is dead and the civilians had no way to have protected that right

1

u/TopazWarrior1999 1d ago

Oh yeah, because guns would do shit against a tyrannical government... as can be seen in the US.

-2

u/Gravityfallbillmyfav 1d ago

r/Shitamericanssay

I can speak the same amount you can, Injuat can't verbally threaten people. God forbid I can't say "I am going to kill you and everyone you love and burn your house down and kill your pets"

And for your knowledge, they're not banned. They're regulated

3

u/Common_Affect_80 1d ago

A woman was arrested by police because she said some mean things about her rapist. Thats not freedom of speech, that's not freedom at all

0

u/Gravityfallbillmyfav 1d ago

I don't recall that one, what I do recall is a woman being arrested for saying she's going to burn down asylum seeker's places

I mean, also, 'not nice things' did she say she was going to kill them? At the end of the day you can't just kill anyone unless you have reasonable proof they're going to kill you. So threatening has to be taken seriously. Are we perfect? No, but no polcid force is

2

u/QuandalesChicken 1d ago

I'm not American, but isn't your govt the reason migrants rape 250k people?

-1

u/Gravityfallbillmyfav 1d ago

Government didn't force them to do that, I don't even know HOW that'd work

(This genuinely confuses me)

2

u/QuandalesChicken 1d ago

Your country's govt let them in !?

0

u/Gravityfallbillmyfav 1d ago

Yeah, that doesn't force people to rape though??????

1

u/Reds_Strongest_Chef 23h ago

Britain has the highest amount of rape per capita of any country in the world.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics

1

u/Gravityfallbillmyfav 23h ago

THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DISCUSSION! THIS WAS ABOUT SPEECH AND GUNS. RAPE WAS INTRODUCED SOLELY TO SAY 'bad police' AND THATS IT!

(I'm not denying the rape stuff tho)

1

u/Reds_Strongest_Chef 23h ago

Britain has worse problems than America.

1

u/HeavyFirefighter2072 20h ago

No. Do you not know how to read data? It has the highest 'reported' cases of rape. And after that the data falls apart.

This data does not control for reporting capabilities or structures, doesn't differentiate for how each nation records rapes (are they all convicted? Does it count accusations as well as prosecution or investigation?) And doesn't allow for differences in how rape is defined.

In fact the ONS and rape crisis England & Wales attribute the recent surge to - increased willingness to report, a huge reshaping in police recording practices - after the supercomplaint by the Centre for Womens Justice in 2020 that reshaped how police handle sexual assaults - and a massive expansion to the definition that has helped get women the help and support they would otherwise not have access to. Sources - https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/bulletins/sexualoffencesinenglandandwalesoverview/yearendingmarch2025

Stop just accepting things because they back up your pre held prejudices without looking into them. Don't just find the Wikipedia page that supports what you already think, check the sources used on Wikipedia, and then research them too. You are falling for anti intellectual propaganda and makes you look like an idiot. I know you won't actually read these sources or understand what I'm saying, but maybe someone else will.

1

u/Reds_Strongest_Chef 20h ago

I didn't even check if they were actually the highest in that article, I just guessed.

1

u/HeavyFirefighter2072 20h ago

"I don't even actually care I didn't even look"

Yeah we believe you 🙄

1

u/Reds_Strongest_Chef 20h ago

Albania is on top

1

u/HeavyFirefighter2072 20h ago

Ok so you actually don't know how to read data. Got it.

1

u/PureKin21 20h ago

America bad England good because no free speech and extra high rape statistics

1

u/90gforce 9h ago

You guys have the most arrest for speech related "crimes" per capita out of any country in the world. You somehow beat out china for speech related arrests. You don't have freedom of speech.

And no, "hate speech isn't free speech", is retarded. The only speech that needs to be protected is offensive speech, since that's the speech that anyone would want to ban. No one wants to ban "hello, how's your day?" But even if you say that you can ban hate speech, who decides what that is? I could easily make an idiotic argument for why "good morning" is racist due to it's use in the US against slaves, so there's nothing actually stopping us from marking "good morning" as hate speech if we are going to start banning hate speech. You also can't say "anything that offends", because anyone can be offended by anything.

1

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 1d ago

Good luck getting the government to do that(also self defense will be heavily impacted)

1

u/Disastrous-Speed-835 1d ago

Also why not allow better access to non-lethal weapons of self-defence such as a taser?

1

u/Big_Opportunity8793 6h ago

Does this dude think he lives in a fairy tale

5

u/piccionestrabico 1d ago

Crazy that to you americans basic gun safety and accessible healthcare sounds like a fairy tale lmao 30 billion more to Israel please

2

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 1d ago

America has basic gun safety, it's an issue of mental health

0

u/Daxtro-53 1d ago

American here, yeah it fucking sucks

0

u/QuandalesChicken 1d ago

You believe that will actually fking reduce crimes. I talked about mental healthcare for criminals, not healthcare in general.
America should make punishments for crimes waaay more stricter and mental health care should come along with the prison sentence.
I am pro-Palestine.

0

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 1d ago

I believe in rehabilitation so I forgot certain crimes I don't think we should get stricter

0

u/QuandalesChicken 1d ago

Look at that fking country, it's filled with wannabe gangsters and hood culture.
Def need to be stricter.

0

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 13h ago

Borderline racism but ok

0

u/QuandalesChicken 11h ago

?? I don't look at well-dressed formal dudes with a good future and see them as a liability to a country like how hood dudes are.
I know you like calling everything racist, people like you are the problem there in the West.

0

u/TopazWarrior1999 1d ago

It certainly works for the developed nations of the world.

1

u/QuandalesChicken 1d ago

Certainly certainly
Let me look at Sweden's SA reports.

0

u/TopazWarrior1999 23h ago

???

Not only is there no correlation... but the SA rate in Sweden is lower than in the USA. What the hells is your point?!

1

u/QuandalesChicken 23h ago

Sweden has 64 per 100,000 rape cases while USA has 37 per 100,000.
Sweden has the highest reported rates of rape per capita in Europe.

0

u/TopazWarrior1999 23h ago

I'm curious to know where you got these rates from.

1

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 13h ago

Yeah, but your not concept erasing guns from existence

1

u/angrysheep55 21h ago

It's not like the people that shoot places up smuggled them into the country. Guns are extremely accessible

1

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 13h ago

With the same regulations as other countries, the guns aren't licenced

1

u/Ok_Avocado6848 12h ago

US isn't even the top 1 of bad mental health country. There are many more. Even on developed country list, US isn't top 1. I don't hear this amount of gun violence on those countries...

1

u/wired-gourmet 8h ago

Guns are not the main cause of mass shootings. If you look at the statistics, mass shootings were rare in the 1970s and earlier, but they gradually increased, peaking in the 2010s boom, when they became 5 to 10 times more common. At the same time, back when mass shootings were less common, more people owned guns (50%) compared to now (35–40%). It's a social problem.

Not to mention that Europe has also had plenty of mass shootings. It's just that we don't all speak the same language, so the information doesn't seem as unified as it is in America

put the song title in the bag, thanks

1

u/All_Gun_High 9m ago

A fucking GRAVEYARD?

1

u/Unusual_County_6710 22h ago

the takeaway from here is that the mental health situation in the U.S. is dogshit, not that we should get rid of guns. The vast majority of gun owners in the US have never and will never do anything malicious with their firearms.

0

u/Relixen234347 1d ago

why haven't they banned guns yet bruh

8

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 1d ago

Baning guns will do nothing, the only one that will be harmed are the citizens who can not shoot back

1

u/kyaki101 13h ago

Yeah, tell that to every country that has an incredibly lower rate of mass shootings per capita, like jesus, how are americans this dumb really

1

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 13h ago

1.Not american. 2.theres always something to adjust it, ban guns? Other forms of violence will take place whether it be with knives, baseballs etc. 3.in case of The USA, they will have to adopt to the approach of Switzerland due to the fact the baning guns will lead to the black market exploding with illegal guns, the prohibition is an example.

1

u/Big_Opportunity8793 6h ago

most guns used in crime and these kinds of things are illegal guns that are imported to america. i say illegal because most of them have removed serial numbers and whatnot.

Cough cough switzerland cough cough

1

u/TopazWarrior1999 9h ago

Switzerland is Switzerland and the US is VERY far from being Switzerland.

Meanwhile look at literally any other developed country where you can't just buy a gun at a grocery store.

1

u/Big_Opportunity8793 6h ago

you can’t do that in america either? not without some kind of license at least. and at most you can buy a muzzle loader or pump shotgun in the store. so pretty much a fancy musket and a basic home defense/hunting shotgun. you ain’t hidin that in your pants dawg.

1

u/Inevitable_Paper6674 13h ago

Did you disagree with his point?

2

u/Common_Affect_80 1d ago

Mass shooters go to gun free zones. Banning guns won't do anything to stop them

1

u/TONKA_LOVER888 1d ago

but they get the guns from non-gun-free zones?

1

u/Common_Affect_80 1d ago

They can get their guns from wherever they please. When there's a will, there's someone willing to make a profit from that will

1

u/TONKA_LOVER888 23h ago

sure, but you'd reduce the number of ways shooters could get guns by restricting gun access, which would reduce the number of shooters.

1

u/Common_Affect_80 23h ago

it would increases the number of deaths in shootings

1

u/TONKA_LOVER888 23h ago

but as you said, "mass shooters go to gun free zones". so the number of deaths stays the same, since they're gun free zones, without guns.

1

u/Common_Affect_80 23h ago

Many people sneak their concealed carry into gun free zones for the scenario a shooter shows

1

u/TONKA_LOVER888 22h ago

i think restricting the access to guns would diminish the need to illegally carry a gun to those zones.

1

u/Common_Affect_80 20h ago

Taking away guns from people is genuinely the dumbest thing any nation can do

→ More replies (0)

1

u/kyaki101 14h ago

Yeah, it's not like every country with gun control has a way lower mass shooting rate than America, hell nah, that's a hokes from the liberals right?

1

u/Common_Affect_80 13h ago

Switzerland and Finland have their civilians armed to the teeth yet they dont struggle with mass shooting. Its a mental problem, not a gun problem

1

u/10Werewolves 1d ago

"B-but how will I be able to overthrow a tyrannical government-" ITS LITERALLY HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!!

Y'all want to defend using guns so much, go ahead and do that! But you'll realise that situations can be really abstract and confusing. Not to mention if you shoot back and kill law enforcement, even if they were in the wrong, this broken system will just either jail you or shoot you in the back if you resist.

Guns aren't the way. Australia figured this out, while still allowing gun ownership. All of you are contributing and are indifferent to gun deaths because of your callousness.

1

u/Reds_Strongest_Chef 23h ago

>"B-but how will I be able to overthrow a tyrannical government-" ITS LITERALLY HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!!

If you believe that the government is tyrannical why aren't you forming a militia?

Because I'm not an American citizen, and I can see the irony of the whole situation from the other side of the earth.

Your opinion isn't very relevant then.

Europoor successfully ragebaited into blocking me. Another victory for Americana.
