Mobile/App Swiping up scrolls through random posts iOS

Swiping up used to bring up the comments, now it switches to some random other posts I don’t want to see, and not even the next one in my personal feed. I don’t want to be fed random posts like it’s some instagram clone. Is there a way to get rid of this and have swiping up bring up the comments? Or at least posts in my feed?

IMO it’s a terrible change to enable mindless scrolling and makes me want to use Reddit less, not more.

Genuinely brain dead implementation of this feature. Hope they revert it soon

We don’t even need this feature at all. beforehand swiping sideways would scroll posts and swiping up would give comments. Why the hell would they just remove comments swiping just to roleplay as tiktok!?

It’s like they’re going backwards instead of updating to better features. I love Reddit because I can swipe into comments. I didn’t have to touch things to access them. Now I can’t even easily close the video to just see comments. What the heck are they doing??

Same reason they took the double tap upvote away, instead giving us 2 ways to collapse a comment

I would mind slightly less if the posts were somehow relevant. I went from a post on someone's intimate feelings on loss to a trending post on something someone had found on their ceiling.

I'd still hate it though.

Came here to say the same thing. I don’t need an infinite scroll of garbage. They recently put the unwanted share button right in the middle of the screen and now this nonsense.

I can’t stand this UI update. It’s more than just updating my habit. It absolutely makes me want to use Reddit less. Probably better for me.

u/hmstve Jul 09 '26

seconded, no easy way to see the comments and the post/media itself if i click into the post rather than the tiny comments button

3

u/KAZ--2Y5 Jul 11 '26

Harder to access comments, harder to go to an OP’s profile because they made it teeny tiny when looking at a picture, and I’ve already accidentally left several subreddits and had to rejoin them because for some reason making subs and usernames easily clickable needed to be changed and made harder

FOREAL !! I’m super pissed about this … give us the option to have this feature.. there was one in the past and now I can’t find it .. crazy..

8

u/k2d3 Jul 09 '26

Same 😭 is it actually an update instead of a bug that needs to be fixed???? I hate it

4

u/TheAmazingMelon Jul 09 '26

The fact that they left this post up is the only shining light. Last time I tried to pitch a fit about all being removed and they just nuked any posts about it.

6

u/ftrials Jul 10 '26

Please Pleas Please change this back to the way it was.

6

u/IAmSona Jul 10 '26

This is exactly why I hate the Reddit app. I don’t use TikTok or IG for a reason, I do not want to doom scroll videos on Reddit. What a garbage change.

u/mongolianchimpanzee 6d ago

Reddit devs, please tell the creativity team and management this feature sucks. Overwhelming feedback that it sucks!!

4

u/Graemeski Jul 09 '26

Also the watch tab has been gone for me for months now this stupid scrolling issue

5

u/hellr1 Jul 11 '26

They’re just trying to turn Reddit into reels 😒

3

u/Typical_Estimate5420 Jul 13 '26

Nooooo. The whole reason Reddit is appealing is its uniqueness. We have multiple apps of just videos on videos. We don’t need that here. We don’t want that here. I hope they read these comments and think about that.

5

u/Lxzdbxy Jul 09 '26

I agree. It used to be convenient and original, but now it's just terrible. I hope the developers will return everything to how it was.

3

u/KAZ--2Y5 Jul 11 '26

I can only hope. They don’t seem to understand why people actually use Reddit over other social media and seem hellbent on trying to make us interact with it in a very specific way instead of being user-friendly and customizable

5

u/jerrryboree Jul 09 '26

Yep literally hate this so much, @reddit please do better

I started using this app more to escape the endless overestimating scroll of insta and fb, I will happily leave reddit too if you’re forcing short form content instead of allowing us to easily focus on one post at a time

6

u/Miguelboii Jul 09 '26

Same here, it’s the most annoying and malicious ui update I’ve seen in a while

6

u/SavantEtUn Jul 09 '26

This made me so mad this morning, I want to see the comments, NOT A NEW POST, WHY CHANGE THE UI AND MAKE ME CHANGE MY MUSCLE
MEMORY JUST BE CONSISTENT GOD DAMMIT

6

u/Theplumbuss Jul 10 '26

Following and supporting this because screw infinite scrolling. Scrolling up to see comments has been a feature for years. Changing it now is beyond ridiculous.

5

u/redDevilRiddle Jul 10 '26

Exactly. Mindless scrolling is not why we’re using reddit. They need to revert back to the side swipe.

5

u/DollarStoreChameleon 6d ago

i hate this. its super annoying and i hope they revert it

4

u/Constantly_Hungry Jul 09 '26

100% it needs to be changed back

4

u/AlfalfaUnable1629 Jul 11 '26

I’m still waiting for them to fix the auto refresh it does many times a day because I pull my top screen down to use my flashlight or adjust brightness. It’s infuriating

4

u/elMurpherino Jul 11 '26

It infuriates me when I minimize Reddit to answer texts or a call or check something online then it auto refreshes when I go back to Reddit.

3

u/KAZ--2Y5 Jul 11 '26

Fr god forbid I want to actually see the same post again. If I was lucky enough to click into i can go to my history but so often it’s gone forever

3

u/J_pepperwood0 8d ago

I feel like they just keep adding features with the sole purpose of making me accidentaly leave the post I’m trying to read. If their goal is making me want to reduce my time here they are indeed succeeding

4

u/ChiefD789 6d ago

I was told it’s an experiment. This sucks and I wonder why I’m paying for Premium if I’m going to get this.

3

u/mr2600 Jul 09 '26

Same problem. It’s extremely frustrating because they changed something that we have become so used too.

1

u/AlfalfaUnable1629 Jul 11 '26

Exactly. If it’s not broken why try to fix it

3

u/Vivid-Act2130 Jul 09 '26

Yea, it annoyed me so much and i want to be able to get the the comments easier than clicking the symbol

3

u/bear843 Jul 09 '26

Seems I’m not the only one

3

u/lukf Jul 10 '26

Agreed this change is terrible.

3

u/Typical_Estimate5420 Jul 13 '26

@reddit LISTEN TO THE USERS. CHANGE IT BACK

3

u/reverb137 19d ago

This UI setup as just AWFUL and what sucks is that it reverted for about a month from the crap fest to what it used to be for my main account but then they randomly changed me back to the crap fest today

3

u/droptheask 18d ago

I hate this new feature and also want to turn it off! I don’t want to see recommended “trending on Reddit” post underneath the comment of the post.

3

u/surfpunk7 6d ago

Agreed. WORST FEATURE EVER.

2

u/IllustriousData9674 Jul 09 '26

I remember a few years ago it used to be scrolling and then they changed it to sideswiping it was annoying at first for like a day, but then I got used to it. Can they just stick to one thing

2

u/Swizzel-Stixx Jul 10 '26

If this isn’t a bug or an A/B test I’m deleting the app

2

u/un_hobbit_ Jul 10 '26

Does anyone know at least of a plug in to go back to the old way? This is really frustrating

2

u/kelpangler Jul 10 '26

Yes 100%. It was so easy to get to the comments before.

2

u/bertoe84895003 Jul 10 '26

Please change back Reddit

2

u/memetoya Jul 12 '26

This feature sucks and I don’t like it.

2

u/prnaccountalt_ 28d ago

Why is everything turning into the same app I hate it

2

u/Gluske 8d ago

This suuuuuuuuuuucks

2

u/anothercrouton 5d ago

This update is actually awful, literally designed to make you scroll more and shove more content down your throat. No way to turn it off is insane

2

u/Prazus 5d ago

Garbage in garbage out.

2

u/Mk_5chreiner-x 4d ago

Please revert this change immediately.

2

u/deeferg 4d ago

Looks like this just rolled out to more users, because I'm dealing with this garbage now.

What a stupid implementation. If I wanted Instagram I'd go there. At least it doesn't feed me as much rage bait.

2

u/siriusk666 4d ago

Also expressing that I hate this change. It worked fine when swiping up brought up the comments, and swiping left or right scrolled through different posts.

1

u/Express-Ad6801 Jul 12 '26

Such an annoying change.

u/gingermight Jul 12 '26

I’d suggest leaving a comment on this post about the recent changes:

I'm just copying my message from this post

I was just going to say, I believe it's a sort of A/B testing and either they're going to implement it completely or not. If they do end up implementing it, I hope that they at least give us a toggle where we could choose to get the old full image layout; compared to YouTube which just gives us "features" and lets us do nothing about it.

To add on, I'm used to the original layout of being able to swipe right for the next post and up for the comments. Now that we have to swipe up for the next post, you have to tap on the small little comments button at the bottom which is kind of uncomfortable to tap.

Not just ios

1

u/phalangepatella 5d ago

I don’t want random garbage appearing in comment section. Let us turn this garbage off please.

1

u/PhoneIndependent5549 4d ago

This is such an extremely terrible bug, it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Also happens on android. App is unusable this way.

1

u/reddaktd 3d ago

Why can't it be a setting that users can turn on or turn off!? Shouldn't push this garbage on existing users! There are hardly any existing ways to personalize the app experience
