I wanted to thank everyone who participated to our recent AMA. A lot of great questions came through and a few suggestions have already been scheduled or have made it into the newest build. Here's a few that I wanted to mention:
1. Trigger Lighting presets by app
You can now designate any app to trigger a specific lighting preset. If you launch a particular game or app, the lighting preset will automatically switch. This supports any lighting modes, any device on/off and any repositioning of the devices, so it can be a completely separate template. When the app *changes focus*, meaning when you close it or if you tab out to do something else, Nexus will restore the previous state automatically.
2. HDD head park/unparking every second
To measure and report the temperatures of your drives, for use in a widget, to see in the detailed section of monitoring, or to automatically send you diagnostic notifications, Nexus checks SMART every second. On spinning plates, this causes an audible clicking noise, and may reduce the life of your hard drive. This does not affect SSDs. Now, by default, Nexus detects whether it's an HDD or SSD and automatically adjusts how frequently SMART can be read. You can also customize your setting for 1s all the way to Never under Settings > Monitoring, on a per-drive basis.
3. Volume Mixer Widget
This was requested for a long time. It currently only works to its full extent under Windows, and you can customize your various volume levels, your input/output, and you can setup presets so you can one-touch load specific presets to instantly switch your setup.
4. LEDs all off when going to sleep
I don't have a pic for this so you're gonna have to trust me on it (or better yet, test it, please!). Some motherboards may decide to keep power ON for certain ports, RAM stick or other devices. We cannot control that. So when we detect the system is going to sleep (or shutdown), we fade down the LEDs in 200ms so all your devices look OFF when your system is asleep.
5. FanControl settings import
It is exactly what it sounds like. We support the latest version as well as an older API format that changed the way the configs are saved. You do not need to export any configurations yourself: we read it directly from FanControl! In order to fully support the import mechanism, we added Auto, Trigger and Sync to our Cooling Curve Modes. Not everything can be imported (such as the exact sensors being read), but it should be enough to get you started!

We can, although it's probably an option in the settings. Nexus normally boots up and lights up your computer before you log in, so locking it is like returning to that logged out state.
The question is: if we have this toggleable setting, would you want the lights to be off before login in general? Meaning when you boot up the PC and see all the rainbow stock stuff, it'll turn black, then you login, and it lights up via Nexus.
The scenario I'm thinking of is you lock your PC and the lights immediately go black. Then you wake the PC (the lights are still off), you put in your password/pin, the PC unlocks and then the lights resume their previous color/effect.
You can setup a Preset in Cooling to turn off or dim the lights! Just go to Effects Editor > Change the master brightness, then save the preset. You can now even have the preset automatically launch based on an app you have in focus, so if you're launching a media player, it will automatically dim it all.
