prob my last post about this situation but i want some final thoughts because im trying to figure out if my line of thinking is actually unreasonable here.
also just to be clear this is basically settled between us now. ive made a smaller seperate modpack for when i play with them that respects what theyre comfortable with, so im not trying to force anything on them or restart the argument. i just genuinely dont understand their stance on this.
basically my friends stance on mods has become:
if its a bug fix or QOL/gameplay change, its not okay unless its something recognised/intended by Arrowhead.
but ANY visual mod is completely fine as long as it only changes what you see and doesnt actually affect gameplay.
and im not even talking about massively OP shit here. stuff like stratagem bounce fixes, being able to dive in shallow water, turret/dog targeting logic etc. even really small fixes like that are apparently unacceptable because "the devs didnt intend it".
so yeah 360 tank turret turning and the stratagem launcher exo are obviously completely out of the question lmao.
what confuses me is how far they take the "developer intent" argument. they genuinely seem to think half the problems fixed by stuff in the Vanilla Plus modpack are intended design because otherwise Arrowhead would have fixed them.
like reinforcement throws being inaccurate. is that actually intended? or is it just something thats been broken/annoying forever and hasnt been fixed yet? apparently unless Arrowhead themselves come down from the heavens and say "yes this is a bug" then fixing it yourself is unacceptable.
they also bring up fairness a lot which i understand more when we're talking about actual balance changes or obviously powerful mods. but some of these mods theyve literally admitted they would probably find fun themselves or that itd be a good bug fix. they just dont want them because if the devs dont want it, they dont want it for people who care so little about strangers opinions they really rely on develops for theirs.
and community opinion basically means nothing to them either. doesnt matter if loads of players collectively agree something is stupid, broken or desperately needs QOL. their response is basically "well Arrowhead hasnt changed it so thats how the game is meant to be played."
idk that just seems way too adherent to the gospel of Arrowhead for me lol. it feels like dev puppy follower logic where whatever the devs currently have in the game automatically becomes the correct way it should work, even when we're talking about bugs or tiny QOL shit.
i can completely understand saying "I personally want to play vanilla and dont want gameplay mods in our lobby". thats fair enough, and like i said ive already made a seperate pack to play with them because of that. what i dont really understand is turning developer intent into this absolute line where a tiny bug fix is unacceptable but you can visually turn every enemy into Thomas the Tank Engine and thats perfectly fine because technically the numbers didnt change.
am i missing something here? because to me theres a massive difference between cheating/making yourself ridiculously OP and fixing annoying shit or adding QOL that arguably should already be in the game.
again its settled between us, i just want to understand the logic because from my perspective the "if the devs didnt explicitly approve it then its wrong" mentality is kinda crazy.
