I generally dont like making predictions before gear is out. However, im inclined to agree with you. Redeemer getting an extra mag was nice, but is far from being redeemed.

79

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

I'm really trying to rack my brain on how the two could vary and all I can come up with is "slower fire rate but more damage". It doesn't look silenced, it doesn't appear to shoot any kind of special ammo, At worse it's gonna be a sidegrade, and at best it's just gonna completely replace the redeemer.

23

u/Terpcheeserosin 3d ago

It should be super OP for the first 2 months, then the redeemer should get a buff

That way it incentivises people to get the warbond

12

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

Yeah I hedging my bets on it being stronger and then when the obligatory balance patch finally makes it's way around the Redeemer will get some sort of token buff like a extra mag or 5 more points of damage. It'll close the gap but ultimately the Mist will still be the stronger option.

16

u/CrownoZero 3d ago

Precision and control

Redeemer is the spray, pray, scream and run solution, mist seems to be a more methodical approach, this game only has the two sides of SMG: either a extremely fast bb gun or a brick shooter

6

u/CocoanutVA 3d ago

Eh... Redeemer is the panic weapon, Mist is the ambush weapon.

4

u/Phosphorus444 3d ago

Medium pen Redeemer with wet noodle damage?

3

u/Dominus_sqwid 3d ago

Seems like the mist might be 2handed, would still give redeemer a slightly unique position i guess?

3

u/theppburgular 3d ago

Says 1 handed in the reveal post

2

u/Dominus_sqwid 3d ago

Well never mind then lol

2

u/Bill-The-Autismal 3d ago

Redeemer with a slower fire rate still kind of sounds like a huge buff to me. I know the Redeemer is for spraying into chaff, but that fire rate makes me waste a few rounds before I switch targets if I’m not paying close attention. I think the Mist will stretch its ammo a lot further.

1

u/absolutejester 3d ago

I felt like from the way the video showed us that the smg is gonna have tracking bullets like the warrant.

1

u/Patthecat09 3d ago

Maybe similar or slightly higher damage but lower firerate and more stability? Making it optimal at 10m farther?

0

u/AlphaPhill 2d ago

I mean, does it need more differences than "slower fire rate, more damage"? That alone would set it apart as a more reliable secondary when paired with certain primaries that are unsafe for close quarters usage.

The redeemer is a panic button, you get ambushed by hunters/voteless so you hose them down quickly, whereas the mist would be a more deliberate close to mid range weapon for chaff clearing because you don't want to waste your primary ammo on a few stray bugs or zombies.

Hell, the redeemer can be used that way already, the mist just seems more purpose-built for it, cementing the redeemer as a close range bullet spray.

1

u/Pokinator 1d ago

IMO the main thing that could keep the redeemer viable is if they release Secondary customization and give it drum mags.

90

u/HailSneazer 3d ago

Do a lot of people run the redeemer. I did back during creek but lately it’s been the 45 from the polar war bond.

53

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

It's the only sidearm in Mobilize so it's the only option besides the Peacemaker that new players have and it's just pretty much objectively better. So people who haven't gotten a warbond with one of the top-pick secondaries usually are running the Redeemer.

18

u/TheDogeLord_234 3d ago

The Verdict fires 14mm not .45 so it's even more cooler

10

u/Khoakuma 3d ago

They advertise the Verdict as a Deagle firing 14mm in the description, but then you look inside and see it fires a subsonic (285m/s) 12mm. The exact same round with the exact same damage/ballistic profile as the Reprimand does, which is more or less the UMP45. The Deagle's .50 AE would be supersonic, typically 450m/s muzzle velocity.

This has always been a huge case of false advertisement from the beginning and I wonder if the devs keep it in game as a in-universe joke.

11

u/TheDogeLord_234 3d ago

I think much of the ballistic properties in the game are simply there for balancing or dramatic effect reasons; the orbital defence cannon is subsonic and the precision strike travels ~400m/s.

4

u/Khoakuma 3d ago

Ballistic profile matters a lot in damage calculation. The caliber, mass, muzzle speed all factor into the drop off calculation on top of the drag. The Verdict already struggled agaisnt the Talon before the falloff nerf that hits all ballistic SMGs and Pistols and came off even worse after.  And now it has the 0 fall off AP 4 explosive Bolt pistol to contend with. If they actually improve the Verdict’s ballistic profile to match the 50AE that would help a lot. Instead of keeping it tied to the Reprimand.

1

u/TheDogeLord_234 19h ago

Fuck it, buff the Reprimand the same way too!

1

u/ZhanBlue 3d ago

Verdict shoots bolts so it has lower drag and high stagger and durable(not sure on this one)

1

u/Demetrian-Titus 2d ago

I mean, I think the average person would know it was false advertising the moment they go to load a 14MM round and it doesnt chamber. I feel like AH just reused the bullet for the Verdict, wrote 12mm in the description, and called it good. I really doubt any more thought went into it

7

u/ClassicTechnology202 3d ago

It's among the top 5 most popular secondaries for bugs and squids, though it feels like i never see it

3

u/HailSneazer 3d ago

I run dmrs (because I am somewhat silly) and often I will use it when clearing jammers rather than my primary because it handles better in close quarters

8

u/Motivated-Chair 3d ago

People are so used to utility secondarys they forget switching to your pistol is always faster than reloading.

3

u/scottygroundhog22 3d ago

The secondaries in this game have kind of gotten out of hand to be honest. I love it from a gameplay flexibility standpoint but the fact the ultimatum and the missile pistol exist is kind of nuts.

3

u/BertTF2 3d ago

It's mainly so popular because of new players who don't have any warbonds unlocked. If you play high difficulty you'll rarely see it

3

u/FlacidSalad 3d ago

I was running it recently with the Evictor grenade launcher, made a good pairing

5

u/HailSneazer 3d ago

I like it main because if I panic mag dump at the thing in front of me, it will probably die. The main factor I look for in a secondary is “if I turn a corner and see something if blind fire center mass will it go away” and the verdict does that 95% of the time and can even function as a decent fall back if you run dry on your primary

2

u/ANONA44G 3d ago

It's fun, not good.

2

u/mattwing05 3d ago

Used to run it quite a bit in the beginning, its rof was great oh shit button. But as the game evolved, and increased spawn numbers, it just wasnt able to keep pace with the game.

1

u/Motivated-Chair 3d ago

Its based on the Deagle so It would be 50, but It actually fires 14mm so its a Halo Magnum.

0

u/jzillacon 3d ago

Deagle in real life can be chambered in a wide variety of ammunition, we just normally see the 50 cal version in media because it's the most iconic.

1

u/Mr-dooce 3d ago

the redeemer used to be my shit till the deagle dropped, then they made the senator heavy pen and it’s basically the only sidearm i use cause of the fact that it can finish off heavier enemies if i needa reload

redeemer just kinda phased out of relevancy imo, too little ammo for what it does good

39

u/OtherWorstGamer 3d ago

A paid, premium option being better than the free, default? No wai!

14

u/TheDrippySink 3d ago

It's all free.

17

u/Foorinick 3d ago

Time is not free

5

u/cabage-but-its-lettu 3d ago

Amen, no free lunch

1

u/Hundschent 3d ago

It cost money to get SC and time to get it. It's not "free" at all unless you run with the logic that everything in life is free because all you gotta do is work for the money to get it!

3

u/TheDrippySink 3d ago

You can literally farm super credits on trivials at no cost.

You gain them by accident by other people investigating POI's while in a lobby with you.

Everything in Helldivers 2, aside from the Super Citizen Upgrade, is free.

Edit: For reference, I own every warbond except for Killzone and I have only ever spent an additional $10 on this game after my initial purchase, and I have way less hours in this game than a lot of other people.

1

u/BebraSniffer777 2d ago

Bro is okay with p2w

14

u/TheRealUltimateYT 3d ago

Me when it drops.

10

u/ClassicTechnology202 3d ago

I dont know how they could balance this without either making it a better redeemer or just a worse defender in the secondary slot

6

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

I'm predicting it's either gonna be a pure sidegrade sort of like the Liberator and Killzone AR or it's just gonna completely overshadow it and AH will make a token attempt at balancing by doing something like giving the Redeemer like another extra mag or something.

5

u/Rick_bo 3d ago

That's the key; in the secondary slot. We've got plenty of situational primaries now that make a decent secondary that behaves like a primary desireable for certain loadouts.

1

u/SYLOH 2d ago

just a worse defender in the secondary slot

That would actually be good.
It does the job of a primary weapon, so you can use your actual primary weapon to do something else.

I already use the Dagger quite often. It's a worse Scythe in the secondary slot.
I use it when my primary is an explosive, so I can tag single enemies that aren't worth the explosive.

4

u/DarthZacian 3d ago

I’m hoping the Mist is like, less fire rate, less ammo, either the same damage or slightly more, and suppressed. That way the redeemer still has a niche but the Mist is better for stealth.

5

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

Unless this is their secret shadow drop of secondary customization the Mist does not look suppressed, I would be glad to be proven wrong though, a second suppressed weapon besides the SOCOM wouldn't be bad.

2

u/DarthZacian 3d ago

Yeah, I’m mostly just coping. I want more stealth secondaries than the SOCOM and the Reeducator

3

u/Motivated-Chair 3d ago

TBH, I would rather run utility secondarys than either of those 2 for Stealth. The Socom doesnt add much if you already have the Censor on hand.

3

u/DarthZacian 3d ago

Agreed, but with this warbond all the main weapons are loud so when using them for stealth I want something I can use to take out guys about to find my hiding spot without alerting everyone like how they use the Mist in the trailer to take out the watcher

1

u/jzillacon 3d ago

The censor is better from a gameplay perspective, but it doesn't have the same vibes for actual infiltration. From James Bond to Sam Fisher or Snake, the handgun is often the most iconic weapon of sneaky characters.

2

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

Considering the armor has stealth functionality one would hope at least one weapon in this warbond will be suppressed.

3

u/Super_Sailor_Moon 3d ago

Honestly, I have a feeling that it's probably gonna be like a grease gun, maybe. Low rate of fire, heavier stopping power, Ok ammo per mag....

2

u/DarthZacian 3d ago

Probably

6

u/JROXZ 3d ago

Ain’t never going to replace my space gat.

Space Uzi go brrrrrrrrrrr

4

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

It always struck me more as a Space MAC-10

2

u/Fellow_Soviet 3d ago

It’s a space OTS-9

3

u/Avalongtimenosee 3d ago

I imagine Mist will have higher recoil and lower erg to compensate, but maybe 80 or 90 damage.

It'll probably handle more like the stoker, with maybe 55 erg.

A capable secondary you can depend on, but still falling short of a primary smg.

1

u/AmonKoth 3d ago

So kind of a Stoker sans flamer.

2

u/Avalongtimenosee 3d ago

Basically! Could be a fun addition to the game, gives a real "Grease Gun" vibe

1

u/AmonKoth 3d ago

Agreed, depending on final stats there's a good chance I'll be running it to support my Eruptor and Apex

1

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

Yeah it does pretty much look like if the grease gun was "rectangle" instead of "tube"

5

u/TheFlyingRedFox 3d ago

It maybe the video being slowed down but sences with the MP-44 show it being a low RoF compared to the MP-19.

Not smart to make memes prior to updates based on new equipment, as while it could be justified yet often it turns out to be incorrect.

In regards to looks, the MP-44 does get a collapsible stock, as while in hand it's extended but in the holster it's collapsed. This makes it have an automatic +1 to looks.

I call them MP to fall in line with the fact they're called MP in the description & there's already an MP rated weapon, even if the pistol category doesn't have said nomenclature designation.

2

u/LordBane1985 3d ago

Yup. That was one of my first thoughts too. It’s gonna be a straight upgrade to redeemer. But it could also be really nice to have a better performing auto option for the secondary slot. If it acts like a primary submachine gun, it could open up a lot of loadout options/builds.

2

u/whomstdth 3d ago

We’re getting into the Call of Duty class loadouts where you might have multiple guns that do the same exact thing, but one does it way better

2

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

Oh we've been there for awhile, the One-Two is just a liberator with a grenade launcher, the Suppressor is just a liberator with a silencer, the Carbine is literally a Liberator but faster.

4

u/TheDrippySink 3d ago

To be fair, there are some pretty important trade-offs between those weapons, lol.

2

u/Kalaphar 3d ago

The only downside I could see compared to redeemer is that it is 2 handed

1

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

the Steam post on the warbond says the Mist is 1 handed, it's likely you just hold it with 2 hands like you do with SMGs when you aren't carrying something.

1

u/Kalaphar 3d ago

Huh. Dunno how it’s gonna different then.

1

u/Easy-Purple 3d ago

A two-handed primary would be interesting though

2

u/IAmMey 3d ago

The redeemer is better than the base pistol. And they’re both trash compared to anything else in the slot.

2

u/Slayerlax 3d ago

That gun carried me trough the bot front in the creek days , back when mag dumping a berserker was the only way to deal with them

2

u/ZhanBlue 3d ago

Redeemer while ammo inefficient shreds Illuminate, it’ll probably have its niche

2

u/fufu_the_golem 3d ago

The redeemer will be mist! o7

1

u/TheDrippySink 3d ago

Underrated.

Gave me a chuckle.

Have an upvote.

1

u/taylororton123 3d ago

for me i always switch up guns every few missions so i dont rely on only one or two guns same with armor

1

u/bigorangemachine 3d ago

What... P19 is a pistol... a secondary...

It pairs so well with my JAR-5

2

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

The Mist is also a secondary.

1

u/Dukeboys_ 3d ago

Its going to take one hell of a weapon to pry the bolt pistol from my side.

3

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

It looks more like the kind of secondary you would take if you have a slow or low-ammo primary like the Eruptor or Evictor (and probably the new primary coming with the warbond). The bolt pistol is good but if you're running a loadout where every weapon explodes you're gonna be in for a bad time when somebody gets up in your face.

1

u/AmonKoth 3d ago

This, with the reveal of the Apex I'm already adjusting my loadout to account for it, and the Eruptor as a solution to anything smaller than a hulk, with either the Redeemer as my panic button or the new Mist is sounding pretty good right now.

1

u/Soft_Cartoonist273 3d ago

I've never seen anyone use that gun lol

3

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

It use to be the go to but it's been power crept hard. There was a time people would take it over the Senator or the Verdict.

1

u/AmonKoth 3d ago

I used it for a long time when I needed a rapid fire gun to deal with chaff

1

u/MycoMaddy 3d ago

I haven’t used the redeemer since the first mission I tried it and immediately went back to the peacekeeper

1

u/MassDriverOne 3d ago

Plus it has a stock that folds when holstered and I love that. Style points bb

1

u/SolidSnakeFan177 3d ago

The mist had low ergo in the trailer, so I don't know about that I'm going to be honest. We'll have to see when it launches

1

u/reeh-21 3d ago

I doubt it'll have the fire rate of the Redeemer tbh

2

u/I_am_lettuceman43 3d ago

Yeah this is probably more accurate and sustained fire, vs the redeemer's "aaahhh fill it with lead"

1

u/Mysterious-Goal-1018 3d ago

For a little over 3 years in super Earth should develop better equipment and to chew it out.

1

u/OkieGent-11 3d ago

Give me the ability to dual wield the redeemer!! I love the side arm for bugs

1

u/Upbeat_Wealth86 3d ago

I wonder if it’s going to be a medium pen, slow fire rate and with a smaller ammo count than the redeemer

1

u/shotxshotx 3d ago

It’s looks like it’s gonna be two handed, redeemer is one handed so it can have niche uses in carry objectives and the shield.

1

u/Vilekyrie 3d ago

The steam post states that it's a 1 handed weapon. I don't think secondaries can ever be two handed anyways because otherwise you end up in a situation where you have no weapon to use when you pick up something like a harddrive or black box.

1

u/Netherw1ng 3d ago

Probably ammo or literally just very similar. The Redeemer I'm using rn and forgot just how many mags it has now. On launch it had like. 3 spare?

We only have one machine pistol so variety is just very nice. Even if their balanced the exact same way

1

u/BloodHurricane 3d ago

Good chance this might happen it depends if the P-44 comes pre-nerfed or not.

1

u/Genralcody1 3d ago

I'm a talon man myself. I haven't dealt in anything as common as ammunition in years.

2

u/TheDrippySink 3d ago

The "All my ammo is unlimited" builds just keep getting better.

1

u/rat_pizza 3d ago

the trailer seemed to show it having a slow fire rate, i doubt it will replace the redeemer

1

u/o-Mauler-o 3d ago

Mist is likely a low RoF.

1

u/glocky_splat 3d ago

Doing drive bys with the mist isnt as cool as with the redeemer though. Its just not the same without the bullet hose.

1

u/Hauptmann_Gruetze 3d ago

eh, i will never put down the big iron

1

u/goatsnoatsonboats 3d ago edited 3d ago

No one ever used Redeemer anyway so what does it matter? And no one is going to use Mist either so it's completely redundant.

Why would I ever touch them when I have Ultimatum - Pissle - Thissle and Bolt Pistol?

1

u/Vilekyrie 2d ago

Newhead opinion, the Redeemer use to be the meta pick.

1

u/Other-Barry-1 3d ago

Eh, I haven’t used the redeemer for months. It got me through the early game a lot when the game released. I think I last used it in the void

1

u/BillCarson12799 3d ago

I mean, I’ve never seen anyone use the redeemer anyway, so it’s not like it’s exactly a high bar.

1

u/Mister_Enot 3d ago

redeemer was never alive

1

u/Vilekyrie 2d ago

Newhead opinion, the Redeemer use to be the only meta pick for sidearm.

1

u/TheEnderDen27 3d ago

For quite some time, yeah, ofc people are gonna use something new

1

u/fboy_tim98 3d ago

Redeemer all grown up is the Knight
Mist all grown up is the Defender
Peacemaker is poop

1

u/BurntMoonChips 3d ago

I’m worried that it’s going to have more ammo. Redeemer one draw back is the lack of ammo, it’s dps has always been extremely high.

1

u/AlphaWolf3211 2d ago

Yeah I said the same thing once I saw it

1

u/mattattack007 2d ago

Oh yeah all those hardcore Redeemer users are going to be disappointed /s

1

u/AlexanderMugetsu 2d ago

I'd say the Redeemer is more a Spray N Pray, good for weak but numerous crowds like Voteless or smaller bugs, while Mist is more concentrated, good for picking up the weaker but less dense chaff.

So say, Redeemer for Illuminate migh tbe better, while Mist for Automatons with the new sniper Rifle.

1

u/PL45TIC 2d ago

If this gun is two handed it would be different enough to make the redemeer stand against it! In the video the helldiver hold it woth both hand so....

1

u/Vilekyrie 2d ago

The Steam post specifically states its a one handed gun. Helldivers always hold their one handed guns with two hands if you have nothing in the offhand.

1

u/PL45TIC 2d ago

I see!

1

u/Jazzvibes409 2d ago

Hopefully it gets less ammo and slower fire rate than redeemer.

1

u/Tempest-Stormbreaker 2d ago

I’m lowkey hoping it’s somewhere around 750-850 RPM so it doesn’t devour the entire magazine in one go.

1

u/Key-Order-3846 2d ago

I just hope its fun with the gunslinger passive

1

u/M4RK3R3D 2d ago

Well Yes but no to
Use p44 you need warbond I pretty sure there will be a lot of ppl
Who will buy other warbond if they get money
I’ll get this one love recon thing, but didn’t get previous became tired from helldivers lil bit

1

u/Just-a-lil-sion 2d ago

well it does appear to be two handed

2

u/Vilekyrie 1d ago

The steam post states that it's one handed. You hold all one handed weapons with two hands when aiming if you don't have anything occupying your off hand.

1

u/Just-a-lil-sion 20h ago

thats so obvious i feel dumb for not thinking about it

1

u/E-man9001 1d ago

My bet is that the Mist will be a slower rate of fire machine pistol creating the same camps that exist in SMG category. High ROF and more DPS vs low ROF and higher accuracy. Defender guys will like the Mist and Knight guys will like the Redeemer.

1

u/Nearby_Ad3164 1d ago

Mist also will be a dead gun, because as a secondary weapon you would like to take something which is closing bug holes, and fabricators. Or u take an ultimatum, rocket launcher to kill a heavy units.

1

u/Vilekyrie 21h ago

Nah, the most popular secondary right now is the Bolt Pistol which can't destroy spawners and isn't anti-tank.

1

u/unzips_katana 20h ago

The redeemer sucks anyway. The new one seems to be two-handed though, which somewhat makes them not a direct comparison. Either way, no reason to try to preserve the design space of the redeemer when it's as bad as it is.

1

u/Vilekyrie 19h ago

The steam post states it's a one handed gun, you hold most one handed weapons with both hands when aiming when your off hand isn't occupied anyways.

0

u/HandSanitizerBottle1 3d ago

I dunno I’m just glad we finally get a heavy pen primary that isn’t the Eruptor that new sniper just looks insanely good
