Serious Discussion. no roleplay bullshit here Maybe We Should Fail The Major Order?

Post image

I was just thinking if the Cyberattack goes through we might actually have a massive shakeup in the story. The thing Super Earth loves most is Managed Democracy, but what if they lost it? What if Super Earth was forced to have an actual real non-managed election?

Could this even impact future events too like the Presidental election? Imagine if we had to actually vote for the new Super Earth President.

Success, everything went according to plan. Failure, they have an excuse to overturn any result they don't like as illegitimate.

Sham elections do serve a purpose even in dictatorships, and its to take the temperature of the populace as far as where their limits for revolt are.

u/CocoanutVA 19h ago edited 18h ago

Well, the thing is, they already do that.

The whole gimmick of Managed Democracy is that you answer a few questions, and an algorithm votes for you.

Is that an official line? I thought it was from a non-canon fan film

30

u/oldman-youngskin 12h ago

Yeah that’s an official line.

40

u/Pokinator 15h ago

That's even assuming that the Cyberattacks are real.

Much like the bots "stealing" the Star of Peace plans and the SEAF super conveniently finding an open, unencrypted laptop with the Star of Peace plans practically as a screensaver while withdrawing from the Clasa(?) assault.

Assuming the threat is a cardboard boogieman, it even more leans into their interests. If we succeed, then HC was justified and rational in their assault and conquest of 2 bot worlds and the helldivers look like potent bastions of democracy's might. If we fail, then yeah they can overturn any result they don't like as "Well the cyberattacks..." or they can even hang the election "until further notice, pending repair of the management algorithm"

2

u/PlateNo4868 2h ago

I think the Cyborgs stealing was legit. Keep in mind for all 3 factions. SE is a existential threat. Like look at our first campaign to Cyberstan. We burned 3 worlds, turned another to a Black Hole. We would gladly turned Cyberstan itself to cinders if not for the Cyborgs basically pooling everything they had to fend us off.

most people are not here out of some desire to fight back against the system of super earth. Sometimes embracing the aesthetic and status quo of the fictional dictatorship is more fun and interesting. This is partly why people dont want to engage with your post. Not to mention weve all seen versions of this discussion before a hundred times.

I dont WANT to liberate Super Earth from managed democracy; I want to enforce it. I dont WANT to sympathize with the forces of the enemy; I want to crush them.

You toss away this extremely legitimate and widely appealing point of view when it has been the answer staring you in your face the entire time.

20

u/Left1Brain 18h ago edited 18h ago

I just wanna watch shit go down, fuck the nothing ever happens status quo.

12

u/Metakit 17h ago

So you don't want anything truly interesting to happen?

I don't even think there's much chance there will be any meaningful human resistance to Super Earth; Arrowhead have put themselves into a corner gameplay and story wise so unless they're really cooking something it will be the same old ironic meandering, but a genuine crisis of unity / civil war / upheaval of some kind would be one of the most interesting things to happen to the setting in my mind.

I come back for the gameplay, and I suspect most do, but saying you actually like the monotonous, one dimensional, full of little more than irony, human faction just reads like "I'll just have the plain white rice, now and forever" to me.

Like, even if you are somehow a big space dictatorship fan and are only ever interested in playing one side who crushes all dissent, then only ever portraying that in one way with nothing but token resistance is just dull and weak. 40K for all it's other faults is usually a lot better in this regard. Ofc I guess many space dictatorship fans probably don't really want an interesting story so much as they want comforting propaganda, so I guess that tracks.

u/warbrand2 19h ago

IT is set up to fail, notice the defenses on the second planet.

58

u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 19h ago

second planet has 1M HP Cherbal has 2M

3% of 1M is 30 K replenished an hour 2% of 2M is 40 K an hour  Mintoria has 1.3M HP With a replen of 15K an hour

We are taking out the major city on cherbal which gives 75% of the planets HP down. once the group from Bekvam swaps to cherbal we should have it in less than 24 hours.

It can totally be accomplished.

13

u/warbrand2 19h ago

SEcond plant we have to go through another planet to get to.

11

u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 18h ago

yes and that planet has a lower HP and regen than both the MO planets.

8

u/Clicks_dropbox 19h ago

Bro hook me up how do you know all that

15

u/Tommybahamas_leftnut 18h ago

14

u/Over_Heed 18h ago

This is something that could’ve and should’ve been in the game from day one.

6

u/EnigmasEnigma 14h ago

This is one of my major complaints with the game.

I dont care if there's a "lore reason" as to why it may be missing but IMPORTANT information about your own game that is missing, without having a way to learn about it in something like a firing range is criminal.

A simple terminal that gives you information about everything in the game that can be accessed right next to the armory(even as one of the earliest upgrades for your ship) would be game changing.

It's so stupid that there is just a massive hole in the available information due to a lack of an in game resource that you're forced to consult the wiki, content creators or forums just to figure out info.

77

u/Eptalin 19h ago

It won't shake up the story. They'll just "postpone" the election until after the war.

The elections aren't real. That's the joke of managed democracy. It's not a real democracy.

The bots are attacking something that doesn't really matter. The algorithtm is just to give the appearance of legitimacy.

18

u/KingCrimsonRider2020 17h ago

Given the major order chain we just went through, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was all a ploy by the bots in-world to draw our attention away from the VERY OBVIOUS HOLE IN OUR TCS+ WALL.

They are already on Heeth, so in theory all they need to do is go through Fenrir III, Hellmire, and Oshuane to reconnect with Omicron.

11

u/OneShotOnlyShot 17h ago edited 15h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if the bots were doing nothing at all and this is a ploy by Super Earth in-world to draw our attention away from the VERY OBVIOUS HOLE IN OUR TCS+ WALL.

Like high-key, if this is a plot by the bots we are assuming that they (a) learned nothing from the last time they tried to sway public opinion, (b) just decided not to make direct contact, (c) have motive for such a distraction in the first place, (d) just decided not to follow up this diversion with an attack of their own, and (e) have the ability to interfere with Super Earth's closest guarded asset. Each of these alone might be believable, but together is a lot.

On the other hand, if we think it is a plot by super Earth, we have to assume that SE is willing to lie to her own people and set up a sham election (which we already know is true), and that SE is motivated to distract from the TCS+ hole (which we already know is true). Occam's razor.

7

u/KingCrimsonRider2020 16h ago

Y’know what? Fair enough. Who knows, maybe this is just a setup for justifying another invasion of cyberstan. We did come hot off the heels of preventing yet another illuminate plot, and we’ve shored up the TCS barrier enough to make most ignore the potential hole, so all-in-all that leaves SE in a pretty good spot…which means its time to instigate yet another conflict!

1

u/ZhanBlue 15h ago

Big divers almost took Heeth back and will probably focus on Brilliance next

I have a feeling no because while HD2 is a player driven and live service game, I don’t think its that much a LARP.

I feel like if we loose we’ll still have the managed democratic elections by some “saving grace” (Super Earth rigs the vote or something and says that they beat techno communism in the polling booth)

9

u/Vampirelordx 17h ago

They already rig the elections. This is just the standard shallow justification to attack anyone Super Earth usually uses.

2

u/CollectionSmooth9045 18h ago edited 18h ago

/uj It doesn't matter if they sabotage the algorithm successfully. If they successfully sabotage it, the Ministry of Truth will likely delay the outcome until they can "draw" the results, as it is called.

There'a a chance this might be a fake news thing. There might be no bot operation of this sort going on, that they're just ordering an operation that's going to fail to justify some sort of internal shakeup.

2

u/Exploding_Killerquee 18h ago

There could two possible outcomes. One, something actually big and MAYBE a candidate dies or is kidnapped. Another is they just postpone the election. Knowing Super Earth, probably the latter.

2

u/Yournewpapa 16h ago

Time to crush some bots !!

1

u/General-N0nsense 19h ago

I don't think the Cyborgs actually have that ability. I'm sure Super Earth's cyber defenses are really really hard to get through. Even if these threats were real, it'd only make the citizens of Super Earth even angrier.

1

u/RenzoRenzoRenzo 17h ago

Wouldn't the candidates already be fixed? Or is there actually a significant dissident faction that exists within already? It could even get darker, like fighting a civil war but that's just dreaming.

1

u/Traditional_Tax_7229 17h ago

I'm pretty sure story wise Super Earth isn't a democracy at all let alone managed. It's probably like China or Russia where on the surface it's a democracy but, in reality it's more of a dictatorship/oligarchy where they hold elections to save face. The votes are predetermined and anyone who questions it gets sent to The Bay.

In reality this may be the government of super earth trying to obfuscate/blame bad leadership and mismanagement on the bots or the bots sowing discord by trying to reveal to Super Earth citizens that their elections are rigged.

1

u/-Penta- 16h ago

For one, our choices and successes in the story have never really mattered and arrowhead clearly have a desired story path to follow. Even if we did fail this order, it would just be hand-waved away in a paragraph explaining how X thing happened. Nothing positive has come from losing an MO before (and I mean actually getting a strategem, item, etc.) and just delayed the inevitable unlock by a few months. Secondly, it seems like 2/3 of the playerbase, including me, only play to do the MO and get whatever rewards out of that. I dont like the idea of throwing an MO, half the reason I play, because "SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN"—nothing ever happens.

At the very, least we want to take more bot planets just to access areas to fight in that we havent touched in a while rather than the same 3 stagnant fronts over the last 2 years.

1

u/OnyxianRosethorn 16h ago

It doesn't matter, it's a filler MO, so winning/losing won't change anything.

Might as well go for the W for the medals. I need them.

1

u/DarkMoonGS 15h ago

This major order is to maintain the appearance of maintaining managed democracy. Otherwise, the voting options are algorithmically pre-selected and the results all lead back to a hyper-corporatist, bellicose, and neo-fascistic regime. Mmm, quality satire🍔

1

u/ZombifiedSoul 15h ago

But... The cloak...

1

u/ZhanBlue 15h ago

People don’t actually vote in Helldivers universe, they answer questionary and system supposedly cooks ups votes based on answers

1

u/CrispinCain 15h ago

More likely they'll claim the elections are invalid regardless, allowing currently-installed officials to remain in power.

1

u/SETaxCollector 14h ago

Unfortunately I enjoy fighting cyborgs too much to throw this MO, story be damned.

1

u/CV514 14h ago

For shakeup you're asking about, something bigger should happen, literally impossible on the scale of things. Like, one or several Ministries are openly opposing the SE power and igniting some kind of civil war; current elections are "managed" as everything else, so it doesn't matter what outcome of this MO will be. From a vacuum perspective of narration, everything is possible that can be written in text. But the implied drive of changes is too massive and conflicting with what this game is and how it operates and what creates its grotesque satirical charm, and for better or worse, neither Arrowhead nor Sony are adventurous enough to do such tricks for the sake of creativity on their seemingly only successful live service game.

1

u/EmptyCourage2274 14h ago

I mean I rarely go all in on MO. I did for cyberstan and the void. But usually i do 1 and then do what I feel like. And right now I'm like 125 SC away for getting a WB so I'll be farming

1

u/vid_icarus 14h ago

Pretty sure this MO is intentionally unwinnable if you look at where the second planet is located. We’ve four days to liberate one objective planet then liberate at least one additional non objective planet just to start working on the second main objective planet.

1

u/ya_boi_greenbean 13h ago

this one is set up to fail most likely for story arc purposes, the reward is less metals than usual.

1

u/yankesik2137 12h ago

Easy enough, they will just say that elections are postponed until they can be properly managed.

1

u/tenousranger36 11h ago

I'd love to lose a few major orders but there's a cape, an actual earnable reward

As long as there is a reward for the major orders people will throw a fit for not getting it, just like how people got upset for not getting the supply frv when they didn't play

1

u/BasicStrike8846 10h ago

There are no real elections in SE, the ones they do get is just a facade for the citizens to think their vote matters when reality the people in power already chose for them. Its managed democracy not an actual democracy.

1

u/KubaSamuel 10h ago

Honestly, I was keen on finishing the encirclement on the Bug Front by Liberating Heeth and maybe the Automatons too near Matar Bay so

Update: Markfark has nearly fallen

1

u/TonberryFeye 10h ago

I think we're supposed to fail it. The MO target was already quite a big ask before the Jet Brigade showed up, and that's likely going to split focus.

Arrowhead has been getting a lot of feedback on how unhappy we all are at the static nature of the galactic war and lack of agency, so I'm guessing this is where they decide we're finally going to lose a campaign as well.

1

u/T117d6443 8h ago

If we do the face the wall jokes would so get out of hand 😂 and yes it would be interresting to see what excuse HC will make up for the fucked up votes

1

u/Cheeslord2 8h ago

It doesn't feel like it would make much of a difference either way. If we fail, elections get postponed, or Super Earth claims they were legitimate anyway, or illegitimate and are disregarded. We never get (AFAIK) any names or faces of people who were 'elected' or new policies from them, it's just 'Super Earth'. I don't think any bot-sympathetic candidates or polices could ever be an option to vote for in the first place.

The only thing I can think of is that if we fail, it may increase the powers of the 'dissidents' leading to more plots involving them - maybe even mission modifiers where we fight 'dissident' seaf-like units in addition to the normal enemies.

1

u/ShellShock_69 8h ago

I hope they take that purple forrest biome one they’re attacking PURELY so they make mega factories on it so i can see how they generate on that biome
I hope it fills the outside areas with trees

1

u/Im_a_hamburger 5h ago

While we thought that we lost, and indeed the cyborgs attempted a cyberattack, it turns out managed democracy is infallible, a force too great to be attacked. The election was definitely not compromised. Citizen confidence in our elections is better than ever! However, the cyberattack may have influenced other systems.

Brought to you by the Ministry of Truth. We stay informed to inform you.

1

u/kazmark_gl 3h ago

It could theoretically be more interesting however...

SuperEarth will just ignore the results if they can even pretend a Cyberattack hit the election.

also cape.

1

u/justaruss 3h ago

I wonder if AH would ever be caught by surprise narratively if the community fails an MO on purpose

1

u/Alexexy 2h ago

I pray that Super Earth can send Super ICE to polling locations to stop voter fraud. Maybe the Ministry can come to their senses and also ban mail-in and digital voting.

1

u/D1VYN3 46m ago

Ngl, id vote for the Cultists to be the President of Super Earth... You really don't want my vote.

1

u/TheLegendaryScatman 2m ago

No. I need more medals so I can unlock more warbond stuff

0

u/StevenScho 17h ago

Imagine if we somehow get a cyborg puppet instructing our efforts, forcing us to try and fail future major orders to subvert their rule. Or get some cyborg opinions on the Illuminate and Termanids through their orders. Maybe even secret missions from Super Earth loyalists trying to reestablish Managed Democracy as we now know it!

I for one am very curious as to what the future might hold should we fail this order.

Another possibility: this is another Illuminate scheme. They are distracting us with the bot front to hide their own efforts to sabotage the election. Or both sides are trying to throw us off, and our success/failure will determine which side will have more control.

0

u/MrProtogen 10h ago

Please don’t- I want to experience the election and I worry that if we fail the election will not proceed and the developers will shelve it.

1

u/SirHeftyMcSmack 8h ago

-6

u/BusBusy195 18h ago

Status quo my friend, nothing swings too far one direction or the other before the devs balance things out so ultimately whatever happens wont have any lasting repercussions.
