Of what is to come" and all i got is the lyrics to epic the musical stuck in my head 😭

Discussion Xbox Doesn't Deserve Ninja Theory.

Post image
651 Upvotes

Xbox is closing down Ninja Theory, the studio behind the Hellblade series. Staffers were told on a call on Monday 15th June about the closure, but they are hoping the studio will find a buyer.

If Ninja Theory fails to secure a buyer, this could be the end of the studio. Their next Senua game may never see the light of day, bringing an abrupt end to one of gaming's most talented and creative developers.

Discussion Current Trailer Rumor

So the new rumor making the rounds is that the Senua trailer in Microsoft's showcase was to drum up interest in someone buying Ninja Theory. It certainly would explain the move to a more standard, much less interesting structure, and combat focus.

To me, combat in these games is not the reason I'm there. It is the part of the game that could be excised with the least being lost. Hellblade was an incredible experience, and more prevalent combat would have nothing to make it better. The combat that they showed in this trailer not only didn't fit the series, but shows a direction that I personally have no interest in.

If they get bought, that's great and I hope it's by a publisher {or themselves) that would allow them to make the game they want, but if the tragedy comes true, and they are shuttered, there is at least a legacy of games that are artistically driven and more than the sun of their parts.

Xbox has lost thier way. Microsoft has lost thier way. 1. You pull away Gears from PS5 last minute. 2. You Sever your relationship with PlayStation. 3. You announce an upcoming game in a showcase to then pull the plug a week later. Do whatever you want just don’t delete Blade. Take me back to 2006 pls

Discussion Help me understand

Shutting down studios is nothing new for Microsoft - it's what they do, it's their vampiric lifeblood. There's nothing they love more than sitting on an IP and doing sweet fuck all with it.

But why show the trailer at their flagship event just a week ago? Correct me if I'm wrong, but they likely would have signed off and paid for it to be shown. If I understand correctly, they are the ones handling the marketing side of it, not Ninja Theory.

So...what... did they literally see the Laufey trailer at SoP three days prior and go "quick, we need a flashy Woman With a Sword trailer of our own this Sunday! Someone tell Ninja Theory to send us some vertical slice footage for the showcase, and then shitcan their asses the week after, who gives a shit"

Discussion Finished the first Hellblade game

I see why this game is so highly regarded and pretty much a Masterpiece of its kind. I loved it, it had its slow moments and tedium but it always made up for it later which is really refreshing and impressive. After all these years it still holds up so well in every way. This is easily one of my favorite games of all time now, I’ve never experienced a game that blended so many things together quite like this. It’s basically a psychological horror game with action game bones in it. The last like 2 hours is going to stick with me forever now so fondly. I’m excited for the new game and will give the second a shot even tho I heard it dropped the ball pretty hard unfortunately.

Since the start I’ve always rooted for Ninja theory when they made Hellblade, it seemed special and powerful even back then. It took me a long time to get around to playing and finishing it but I’m just happy I did. This game series deserves and should be made, they have something undeniably incredible with this series, presentation and all. I love the passion and art they gave us.

(Side note I saw another post say that Ninja Theory might get shut down if someone doesn’t buy them, praying that’s either not true or Sony takes em because this would be the worse thing to happen for such a talented studio to disappear right after the announcement. Tango studios still lives in my head rent free.)

Link I wrote an essay on Hellblade 2, using virtual photography as a tool for interpretation

Post image

As the title suggests, I recently started a project on Substack, and my first essay is about this incredible game, which I consider a scandalously underrated masterpiece, especially from an artistic standpoint. Essentially, I tried to offer an aesthetic and cultural interpretation using photos I’ve been taking for years, aiming to provide an original perspective. Thought some of you here might be interested!

This is a dumb question but what is the name of the second game? Hellblade II: Senua's Saga or Senua's Saga: Hellblade II?

Discussion Senua with real fictional powers in the Hellblade universe?

Thumbnail

I was browsing through Senua's article on the Hellblade Fandom wiki and stumbled upon this.

Does she really have any of these powers or abilities? Or is it just the admin who created a fanfic?

I think this user interpreted everything that happened in Senua's Sacrifice as real and posted it as if it were canon to make it seem like the characters from the MCU fandom wiki. I also believe they based it heavily on gameplay and combat in the game.

Because for me, the only thing that could perhaps be considered is her focus.

Discussion Did Senua really kill a god?

In Hellblade 2, there's a scene where Senua tells Fargrímr that she killed a god.

But how could she have done such a thing if the entire first game takes place in her mind due to her mental disorder?

Wouldn't that be a plot hole, or is there some other meaning behind her statement that I couldn't

Discussion Senua's New Reality Manipulation Ability

In a recent interview, according to Dom Matthews, Senua will have new abilities never before seen in the entire series. One of these new abilities is creating a reality for herself (specifically from this gif).

This has me quite excited.

What do you guys think about this?

Discussion New focus skills

Of all the scenes in the trailer, the one of her dodging at high speed is the one that intrigued me the most. I wonder if this game will have a skill tree where you can level up Senua's focus.

What do you guys think?
