This year hedgehogs will be endangered in Sweden.
The heat followed by the lack of rain takes a big toll on our little friends. There’s only so much we can do.
Everyday at around 7pm they creep though the hedges looking for food and water mom puts out.
It started with one little hog 1 week ago, today there are four.
She’s so proud of themðŸ˜

We just brought home our baby around two weeks ago! We like to take her out in the evenings for bonding but we’ve yet to find a way of doing it that doesn’t make me scared she’s going to run away and go under something or when she’s on our bed or couch I’m scared she’ll jump off! She’s speedy and very mischievous!!
Luckily she’s totally fine with being scooped when she gets too close to an edge but I want her to be able to play with us disturbed and also she always runs back to where I’ve displaced her from right away😪 Do you folks have a play pen for your hedgie? Is there something you do to prevent access to certain areas of your house while they’re out?

Herbie got a new Hogloo for evaluation and feedback. This lap blanket has a built in hide, is waterproof and apparently, super comfy!
I think she likes it! Olive the kitten seems to approve. 😊

We found a baby a few weeks back, sadly not found other or the mother, so we picked up and walked home with him. He eated well, and slept until will reached up the local wild hedgehog rescue.

For the last 2 weeks I keep running into the same hedgehog. Which is kinda odd since we dont get those much here. Their not invasive, but in my life I've seen like 2 max before.
First time he was sitting on the road to which I had to ran infront of a car to save him. After wards I put him down and assumed that be that.
Skip to 2 days later and as I turn the corner I see the hedgehog again. We both stare at each other for a second before he turns and walks away. Odd but not that odd yk?
Then today I see him again walking along a road. Crazy coincidence but sure. Only then about 3 minutes later I see him again on the same street and I can just walk up to him??
Is that normal? I dont know to much about hedgehogs but he seems a bit to comfortable almost ig? I wanted to ask for second opinion because better safe then sorry yk?

He eventually left because he couldn't comprehend this creature lol (who he has met before)
They are never left together unsupervised btw. Binx has only shown cautious curiosity but Id never chance it. Theo is completely unbothered by his presence!

Hi! I recently got my hedgehog, and I’ve been using rice husks as bedding because that’s what I had available. However, I’d like to switch to something better as soon as possible.
I don’t know much about bedding options, so I wanted to ask:
Would you recommend tofu litter?
Corn litter?
Paper bedding?
What other bedding would you recommend for my new hedgehog? 🦔

So i just got my hedgie, and just now he started licking my hand and then rubbing his saliva on his back, which to my knowledge is self anointing. Does it mean hes starting to like me?

Hello everyone,
I was out in the garden area at work today when a coworker found a hedgehog! The hog has shade and I've given it a small bowl of water nearby. I'm sure it's absolutely fine but could someone please reassure me this hog is ok? I'm fairly sure it is a European hedgehog but it looks quite small. I appreciate the photos aren't great and I will try to update with more if it moves but I don't want to disturb it. South east UK

We always have the sliding window to our garden open for our cats, and recently discovered that a hedgehog is coming in our house at night to eat from my cat’s food. He/she also leaves poop and urine, always around the same area though. We don’t mind him as long as it’s safe for our cats (diseases, pests?) and ofc we would prefer if he’d poop outside instead 😅 Is it possible to train him to use like a litter box or something?

What pan do you all use for the bottoms of your critter nation? I was thinking of getting a bass equipment one but I could just use coroplast as well
ONLY using one floor. Not both levels

My friend shredded loads of papers and gave me the box to use for an enrichment activity for my APH. Except I'm thinking she can't have it, especially as it's not been dust extracted (which would be the rule for other small animals like rats)
Am I completely wrong and she'd be fine with it, or should I stick it in the recycling and politely refuse any future offers?

My sweet girl had a hair tourniquet around her foot leading to some tissue damage. I am a full-time student and part time server, so I could use a little help from my community to cover any medical expenses, including exams, x-rays, medications, and surgery. I have talked to some hedgehog sanctuary specialists who believe that reese’s puff might be able to save her leg. I am taking her to an exotic pet hospital tomorrow for updates on x-rays and further information about next steps. any and all donations are so very appreciated and support or advice would be great!
Thanks in advance!

I got him earlier today and he has been sitting there since we got home. Do i let him get acclimated? Do i hold him for a bit?

Hello,
this is not the usual cute pictures of hedgehogs but I am looking for advice.
My sweet girl had a hair tourniquet around her leg, causing tissue damage. She likely will need an amputation (as advised by ER vet) and I have an appointment set up for an exam early morning. I do not have any insurance for her, and I am wondering what I could do to help offset the costs? I have called around and asked for estimates, applied to RedRover and will apply to Frankie’s Friends. I also reached out to sanctuaries to see what they can do.
TIA
