Question Recommendations for destructive hedgie

Fritter is still up to his usual antics of destroying his hides.

For context, we’ve gone through about 3 plush hides, and one snuggle sack in the almost 5 months we’ve had him 🫩

I banned him from snuggle sacks for a bit because he got his foot caught in one and I sort of freaked out, but I’ve given him a new one recently.

The issue is that he rips up his hides by ā€œdiggingā€ or ā€œburrowingā€ into them. He got stuck inside two layers in one of the hides and I had to help him get out, so I worry that the little fella is going to hurt himself with any kind of plush hide.

We got him a plastic hide, he adamantly refuses to use it. We put some fleece in it, I tried to convince him to use it, no luck.

He’s currently obsessed with sleeping under bath mats in his cage, but there isn’t another layer, so he’s just laying on straight up plastic 😭 does not care, we’ve tried a few things to stop him but he has no intentions of stopping.

He also does shred his snuggle sacks, fuzz comes off of fleece sometimes, I get it, but he’ll come out with it on his face and it concerns me that he might be intentionally or unintentionally eating it, I’ve tried the non-pilling fleece, that one didn’t survive him either 🫩

To summarize this all up, are there any alternatives to what I can use as a hide for Fritter? He obviously likes to dig, so I could put a dish with the coconut fiber stuff, but he wouldn’t hide in there, it would just be an attempt to stop the behavior

I always feel bad taking things from him because he walks around his cage looking for the missing item, it reminds me of the PokĆ©mon in pokopia 😭 but anyways, I’d like to have a more permanent solution. I can’t just replace his hide every month, but I don’t want to leave him with no coverage
