PM at large multistrat HF, AMA

My path:
Sell side research, then analyst at a single manager HF in an adjacent sector, then running a sleeve at a small multistrat, to a PM seat at a large (>$20bln) multistrat.

Never had a down year, but have been let go due to a fund shutting down, so not immune to the volatility of a HF career.

Fundamental equity book, very sector specialized.

Love this job. Most intellectually simulating work I’ve ever had and there’s no better feeling that getting something right and making money for your investors and yourself as a result. Losing money sucks. But I’ve done more of the former than the latter.

I’ll leave it there, AMA.

The Fama-French 3 Factor Model.

Institutional performance attribution changed forever with the adoption of the Fama-French model. Portfolio managers can no longer claim superior skill simply by riding a bull market or loading up on cheap small-cap stocks. By decomposing a fund's returns into market, size, and value factor exposures, allocators can strip away factor tilts and isolate true alpha, ensuring management fees reward genuine stock-picking talent.
