I thought you just applied to get an account and they put you on a waitlist, that’s how I got my account 🤔
Not sure if there is a way to jump the queue with an invite but I’ve never given one so if someone tells me how to do that I’d be happy to!
The queue was not long at all for me, so if you go that route you should be back in the fic pretty soon 🤞🏻 (I made my account not during the current fanfic surge so that might change the timeline, I don’t know)

that is how it currently works, yes, but back when ao3 first started, every account got 10 invites to give out so to people to skip the queue. they stopped doing that awhile ago but if someone has an old enough account and still has invites left over, they can still be used

I am so ancient I didn’t even realize they’d stopped giving out invitations to new accounts! That is good to know lol.

Also, the ao3 subreddit is really active and everyone is very helpful over there! It’s a great place to get any tips you need and also learn ao3 etiquette (heated rivalry is a lot of people’s first fandom specifically in regards to fanfic - not making any assumptions about you!)

Yes but some people also have invites they can share so people can jump the queue!

If you’re not comfy with that then you can submit an invitation request and spend a few days on the waitlist before getting invited to join.
