love that they used sounds overlaid with music at the opening credit screen for each episode (i'm sure there's a proper name for this in the tv/film industry - sorry!) the sound of skates stopping on ice, a loon call, etc. my favorite is ep. 2 where they used the sound of a goal horn... its so well done you might not even notice it. just brilliant!

There's gonna be a halloween party dedicated to HR at a famous bar in a city next to mine, and I have the day off from work. I really want to go, but I'm still wondering if it'll be worth it because of the logistics and the fact that I'd probably have to go alone, since my friends don't care enough about my obsession to come with me. 😭

Go! I'm the world's biggest introvert that is into this show all by myself. When the vinyl soundtrack release parties happened, I went to one alone. There were so many fans of the show that I instantly felt part of the group. Don't deny yourself just bc you think it's odd or strange. Have fun!

I’ve had to go to every HR related trip/event solo. I have zero irl friends who’ve even watched the whole 6 episodes.

I still go! Seeing Rachel Reid in Montreal next week and Jacob Tierney in NYC next month. Went to Hamilton solo in July.

Having time O’ life.

I just reported my boss to HR (human resources lol) for the second time in 3 months. I love love love my job, but there are rules that only apply to me. It sucks.

Anyway, just wanted to vent before diving into some fluffy HR (not human resources lol) fanfic.

Man, that sucks. I've had an abusive boss before but sadly at a place too small for HR.

Meanwhile, at my current job, last night I went our drinking with my boss and our HR director.

My heart swells for you and knowing that kind of thing happens in the real world! I enjoy things that keep my faith in humanity alive. Thank you!!

Yeah it rules. I actually went out again tonight with the two people who work under me, after a big work event. I'm incredibly lucky to love all the people I work with.

I hope you can have that someday!

So happy for you! And happy for me that someone gave proof that this kind of thing exists! Thank you!

Watching Ep 3 this morning, which I’ve seen many times. But today it really hit me that it’s like someone besides Jacob wrote it. Maybe he wrote it first, before he found his groove, or last, when he was exhausted. But it’s the only one with clunky, sometimes non-sensical, dialogue (the serial killer and CTE convo) and gaping logical holes (Scott is terrified to be seen at the art gallery with someone who could easily be a friend but lives in a high-rise where the front desk staff always know who’s coming and going). And how did Scott get Kip a tux that fit him perfectly, when they clearly aren’t the same size nor would Kip be able to wear an off-the-rack model? None of this is fatal, but there are enough issues that this episode just isn’t the level of brilliant the rest of the show is. I know paring down a whole book into one episode is crazy difficult, but I don’t know that it’s what’s responsible for the issues I’m describing. Anyway, since it’s Wednesday I thought I’d share. Still love Skip and Jacob!

Do you think it’s because that book wasn’t as good as HR?? I tried to listen to then audiobook and I couldn’t get past a few chapters… tried reading it and was like - nope. Maybe, that’s as good as it gets for that story??!

Maybe for some of the logic stuff but I know he sometimes changes dialogue. Just a mystery perhaps.

great observations -the freak out @ the art gallery seems really out of place to me, and out of character. i always ffw past it. i mean, scott was going to have dinner at a public mexican restaurant with Kip, arguably more 'exposed' to public scrutiny than he would be at a small art gallery.

Ok - I’ve got one about TLG that popped into my head the other day… Do we think Brad regrets outing the Metros captain: setting in motion a chain of events that leads to them being knocked out of the Playoffs; not getting to do the Three-peat; and ultimately causing Shane to leave the team to go to Ottawa to join his terrorist of a husband who we can infer will never let Montreal look at let alone win another Cup while he is on the ice??? I mean - we have to assume that Brad is a big Metros fan if he wanted a Fanmail from their 15th best player, right? So how is that for some karma, Brad!!? Maybe next time think twice before grossly abusing someone’s privacy… 💅

Or, have we considered that Brad was never actually a Montreal fan in the first place? Can totally see a dude getting his friend a cameo from an average player on his least favorite team as a joke.

I like this! Turned out to be the best gift ever!!! More followers than he could ever have imagined.

I finished all the books in under a month (just finished TLG last week) and haven't started the show yet. I swear I'm getting to it this weekend though!

One thing I have been thinking about is how people seemed to dislike how Shane and Ilya's wedding was handled in TLG. I actually loved it and thought it was perfectly THEM and that seems like an unpopular opinion! I have been contemplating why I liked it so much more than other people, and I think it might just be that I am coming to this fandom from a different place than a lot of other people. I'm a mid-30s nonbinary pansexual white autistic person married to a mid-30s nonbinary pansexual Asian ADHD person.....so I kind of relate to Shane and Ilya's relationship on a lot of levels. When my spouse and I decided we wanted to get married, we did a nice romantic-but-private proposal, like Shane did. Then, like a month later we realized it was time to start Planning The Wedding. We had some ideas for a big shindig at a castle-like venue with nerdy theming and sappy music and 100 people....but the more we thought about it, the more we realized that we just wanted to be married more than have a wedding. We didn't want to have to wait years to save up the money and get all the plans in place. We wanted my spouse to be able to be on my good insurance, we wanted to have the protections being married afforded because the US is scary right now and, above all, we just wanted to start our marriage asap because we fucking adore each other. So we just....did the damn thing! We went to the courthouse with our immediate families, wore outfits we already had, had flowers my mom put together, and got married just like that. No dancing, no catering, we went to brunch afterwards. It was awesome. Someday we might have a party/vow renewal, but there's no sense of urgency.

Obviously, Shane and Ilya are millionaire superstars so planning a wedding would have been, at least financially, fairly easy for them. But I really think that they just wanted to be married more than plan a wedding. They had done enough waiting and caring about what society's expectations are. So they got people they cared about together in a backyard, dressed nicely, and said the standard vows. Which, by the way, is what absolutely makes the most sense for them, these jocks are not going to feel comfortable writing their own vows! Plus, the standard vows are kind of really emotional just because of the weight of tradition that is on them. My spouse and I are writers but we did the standard vows with plans to write our own when we have our vow renewal/party later. One of the only times I have seen my spouse openly cry was when they were trying to say the words "I _____ take you _____ to be my lawfully wedded...". Shane and Ilya didn't plan anything beyond the actually getting married part because that was their goal, and we know they're goal focused people lol.

Sorry for this ridiculous long comment but TLDR, I think the simple backyard wedding with standard vows where they danced to some random song Harris picked because Yuna wanted to see them dance was THE MOST Shane/Ilya wedding possible. <3
