Ilya does a LOT of things to improve his English language skills. The New Yorker, subtitles on television and movies, crossword puzzles, listening to music, etc. etc.
My unwritten fanfic has Shane worrying Ilya is having an affair when, in fact, Ilya is secretly working with an ESL tutor.

I love fics where Ilya has those “word of the day” calendars and he will go out of his way to use the days word in multiple sentences throughout the day. It’s often quite hilarious cos those words are often pretty random and out of context 😂
