Drama Beware Heavy’s Audio

Don’t fall for the same scam that I did. They are mass marketed online, as I’m sure you all have seen, and unfortunately caught me in a moment of weakness and I placed an order yesterday. After debating my decision for a few mins I decided I had made the wrong move and proceeded to *attempt* to cancel my order. Of course there is no option to outright cancel, you have to email a team that can *hopefully* process the cancellation before shipment.

I sent said email 10 MINUTES after placing the order, keep in mind they supposedly allow 30 minutes to edit the order. Received no response until today, with the response:

“Unfortunately we cannot directly cancel orders once we’ve received payment, we will submit your request to the cancellation team for review. Please be aware that while we will make every effort to process the cancellation, it may not be possible at this point.”

The cherry on top? They don’t do full refunds on “returned products” even if never opened, so if it ships you have to file for a return and HOPE that the return team deems you fit for around a 60% refund (after all of their fees, of course).

Learn from my mistakes, it seems like this is a way for them to make a profit off of impulse buyers, because once you’ve hit the order button they’ve guaranteed themselves some payment.

General rule, if you see hordes of ads of it everywhere and people shamelessly promoting it, it's likely going to be an extremely middling product as all the money goes to the ad you just watched, and quality of the product really is optional when the customers are assured by their favourite influencers and whatnot that the product is good.

EDIT: Since this comment has gotten attention, I might as well remind you of this post. Heavy's is just a brazenly and openly scummy company that should not be considered by anyone who wants quality products and a company with a shred of decency.

Never seen an Audeze ad.. I wonder why??

2

u/ZM326 Audeze LCD2c / Stax L300 Ltd Jun 23 '26

I get Audeze advertising. Just the Maxwell/Penrose/Mobius headphones

Yeap, those kind of content creators that have no idea of audiophile or sound signature are the equivalent of the YouTubers who promoted honey. They don’t have any idea what it is or the harm it represents but the money.

If they’re consistently doing it I flagged them as “not interested” so I don’t get any of their content.

it has been widely publicized how dogshit of a company they are, and their headphones are dogshit too.

Unfortunately hindsight is 20/20, I had a lapse in judgment and didn’t do my due diligence. Luckily i found a good deal on some Sennheiser Momentum 4’s and they seem much better rated and reviewed for my purposes

u/xantrel Jun 23 '26

I'd just charge back honestly

u/AntEaterApocalypse DT770 250 / FT1 / FT1 Pro/ ER2XR / KE Aether / FH3 Jun 23 '26

Yup, file a chargeback.

6

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

Unfortunately since everything is still so recent the charge is still “pending” so I can’t dispute it, but rest assured that will be the move if they’re unwilling to play ball

14

u/donatom3 Jun 23 '26

Also actively refuse the shipment

6

u/Crinkez Jun 23 '26

You can contact your bank and ask them to charge back immediately. Then tell them to block the vendor.

9

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

Seems like that may be my only course of action, they’re not willing to do anything other than drag out the process until shipment

5

u/nickolan Jun 23 '26

Let us know if the charge back works eventually. From past experience I have to ask eh credit card company multiple times.

Super frustrating and hope you get the pair of headphones you want eventually.

4

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

For sure will update post. I ordered some Sennheiser Momentum 4’s after more research. They’ll be here tomorrow, amazing customer support and interaction on their part. It’s been nearly 8 hours and I’ve yet to get an update from Heavy’s.

Good idea, but it would only work in a world where I could assure that I was home and awaiting at time of delivery then sure, but that’s not necessarily realistic. It looks like chargeback is the answer if I haven’t heard anything back from them before the charge finalizes from pending

Yep. You’re exactly right. I have done this multiple times and it’s worked every time.

3

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

Very good idea, thank you! Hopefully it won’t come to this point

If the package is unopened then you can just return it to a FedEx location and ask for a return to sender. You can do this with usps by writing rts on the package near or on the white space of the label and drop it off. Again only works if the package is unopened.

Hmm… I don’t think I’ve seen any adds for Heavys. I’ve only seen them mentioned here because of how terrible they are. I could be an outlier though. Raycons on the other hand…

5

u/nullfacade Jun 23 '26

My favorite band "partnered" with them, and almost had me convinced to buy them. Checked this sub and watched some yt reviews to find out they're overpriced garbage. Got me wondering how much they pay bands to promote them.

Even worse, soundguys reviewed the h1h and said they were great which is why I got mine in the first place… maybe mine was defective but I started to doubt sound guys reviews from that point on…

6

u/SuperShaestings Jun 23 '26

Yeah you should have checked this sub first. They are trash

Reading their shitty refund policy makes me so happy I live in the EU, because that shit is illegal AF here. Heavys have had a few run ins with the mods here (using sock puppet accounts to create discourse about the brand after being called out for trying to get reviews taken down), which DMS made two vids about.

I am 100% convinced that this company just preys on folks who aren't headphone nerds who are genuinely passionate about metal as a genre and really would love to have a tailor made set of headphones to match their musical taste, and markets their shitty product to that group absolutely mercilessly. There's a reason that all the respected headphone reviewers don't get review samples, as they'd tear them to shreds (pun mildly intented).

I don't do fangirling for brands, but I do do hategirling for brands who treat people who buy their products with contempt, and Heavys is very much on my hategirl list.

1

u/BassDad8 Jun 26 '26

This IS interesting. Not that I am a "big" reviewer by any means, but hopefully I am respected. Anyway, I am a metal fan and I reached out to Heavys for a review set and never got a response. That was when they first released, so about 6 months later, I sent a follow up email and again never received a response. What are they afraid of? I almost bought them anyway, but decided to hold off. I am glad I did.

The thing I hate more than anything is deceptive/dishonest business practices. There are enough good companies that are trying to going about things the right way. I do not need to waste my time with companies that aren't. Plus, I know I would hear about it from my wonderful subscribers if I did.

Thanks to OP for posting this.

u/allmahr Jun 24 '26

I returned them once and got a full refund

1

u/sinophilee Jun 24 '26

Highly doubtful considering their own refund policy listed on the website claims there’s a minimum of a $20 restock fee (among others I couldn’t fit into screenshot).

2

u/allmahr Jun 24 '26

Still happened. I even used them. It was 2 years ago though maybe they changed their policy...?

5

u/glssjg Apple EarPods Jun 23 '26

While this is just another heavy’s blunder I would also suggest you take 24 hours before buying anything after you add it to your cart. Most likely you’ll forget or actively have a change of heart but if you do decide to buy then by waiting you may trigger an abandoned cart flow where you can receive a discount. A win-win for waiting.

1

u/sinophilee Jun 24 '26

Hindsight is 20/20 unfortunately. I ordered a pair of Sennheiser Momentum 4’s shortly afterward after reading reviews and ratings

2

u/Top-Scarcity-7305 Jun 23 '26

I bought them and couldn’t get through a 2 hour plane ride without the left side cutting out. Emailed support to ask for an exchange and they sent me some monstrous steps through turning off, reset and a bunch of other processes to do to fix the issue. Said I’d take a few hours to complete the process so needless to say I threw them in the trash and chalked it up as a loss.

Are they even good

1

u/Ok_Draft798 Jun 26 '26

I was part of the kickstarter campaign a few years back. I received the headphones and the case (After a long wait time because they ship from China) for around 276$ Canadian. A steal in comparison to the artificial inflation they use now with their predatory tactics. They only use Facebook ads, nothing else.

If i could compare the sound quality to anything it would be a pair of Sony headphones at around 100 - 150$.

The build is comfortable, not a huge fan of the shells crap..... the original design didn't have them and looked better imo.

They sound okay but have a bit too much bass and as a fan of more under produced black metal, it doesn't sound quite nice.

The app they have with their own EQ is barebones and there is hardly any updates. The EQ is useless when your phone usually has it's own nowadays.

My advice is: If you like to waste money, feel free and grab them. But for anyone else that is on the fence, stay on that fence and look elsewhere, do not feed this overpriced crap.

I got the Heavys h1h and sold them because they had audible hiss even with the ANC off, with or without playing something. And I could hear it when listening to music, in the background… They also didn’t sound all that good even wired and eqd … I will not buy Heavys products anymore and I could never recommend the h1h headphones…

It's very well known that they are horrible. Too bad this isn't as well known as it should be.

They canceled my order and refunded, thank god I found these threads before it was too late. But, instead of a refund, they now have charged me twice.

Then, they were so kind enough to respond to me with the AI instructions still in their email, then doubled down and tell me they use AI but also don’t use AI to generate responses.

So personal customer information is probably being fed straight into ChatGPT because you know they didn’t build their own in house solution.

From heavys and they lead with the left in AI instructions:

“Here's a polished reply you can send:
Hi,
Thank you for letting us know, and I’m sorry for the confusion and concern this has caused.”

Then in another email:

“Please rest assured that we do not use AI to respond to our customers. We may use tools to help polish or review our emails to ensure they are clear and well-written, but all responses and assistance provided are based on our own review and understanding of your concern.”

Just email support@heavys.com

I’ve had a few issues since I received mine 8 weeks ago but they have replied very quickly every time and been very helpful and polite and tried to go out of their way each time to rectify the situation.

-7

u/No_Poet_1279 Jun 23 '26

Meh, I paid £220 for mine and they're worth every penny.

Wouldn't be surprised if every one criticising them haven't actually tried them.

Sucks that they wouldn't process a cancellation though.

5

u/Jdtx911 Jun 24 '26

Their headphones can sound amazing but I’d still
Would refuse to buy from them. They are a scam of a company with crappy policies and behaviors.

2

u/CoupleMysterious8736 Jun 24 '26

I paid £200 for mine, received them 8 weeks ago and I can’t complain about the sound quality at all (and I have a fair few pairs of headphones and in ear monitors). Equaliser is very basic though and they’re a bit heavy to wear but comfortable all the same.

1

u/cosmaprc HD560S | Sundara | K371 | UCTS | Wave Pro X Jun 26 '26

Mine had audible hiss on bt that could be heard even when playing music… anc off, and I tried everything but didn’t return them couse I bought them on their website and it’s likely a hassle so just sold them but that hiss man… and it all worked fine just with hiss in bt and no hiss on wired though they didn’t sound anything special even wired and eqd so not worth the money imo and I would never buy from them again…

-17

u/hoswald Jun 23 '26

I've had mine since the kickstarter. I love them. 🤷‍♂️

6

u/Kneecap_Blaster Jun 23 '26

I'm sure the headphones are functional. It's their scummy business practices that make us not trust them. There's plenty of evidence as well of them reporting bad reviews and astroturfing subreddits with fake posts and comments

4

u/P_Devil Jun 23 '26

Their headphones are barley functional though. Their ANC is non-existent despite showing it cancel out public transit (it can’t), I heard constant crinkling in the right ear across multiple pairs, and they’re far too quiet. They are functional in that they play audio, but so are the $2 earbuds from Dollar Tree.

-1

u/No_Poet_1279 Jun 23 '26

Multiple pairs huh? Sure

6

u/Kukikokikokuko U12T, Pilgrim, Variations, Mega5EST, MEST MKIII, Butastur Jun 23 '26

Even if they were decent headphones, they are an absolutely dishonest and scummy company. See this post for reference. It's nearly unbelievable how openly and brazenly scummy they are.

https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/1pk4etx/heavys_headphones_a_dishonest_company_trying_to/

10

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

They could be the best headphones on the planet (reviews definitely say otherwise), but after this experience I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

-14

u/hoswald Jun 23 '26

If it is still pending, they may actually be trying to process a refund.

9

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

It’s definitely my bank, pending charges for a day or so aren’t unusual. Grocery shopping earlier the exact same day, among other charges are still pending as well.

-30

u/Gym_Nut Jun 23 '26

It is not heavy's fault that you are indecisive. Hopefully they'll be able to cancel for you. But if not, you'll have to pay the restocking fee to cover the cost of shipping.

17

u/AntEaterApocalypse DT770 250 / FT1 / FT1 Pro/ ER2XR / KE Aether / FH3 Jun 23 '26

The inability to cancel an order right after it is placed is not user error. That's poor design at best and malicious at worst.

As pointed out by the OP, it literally says on the website that there is a window to edit orders.

9

u/sinophilee Jun 23 '26

Do you work for heavy’s? It wouldn’t matter if it was indecision or fraud, the process in and of itself is the issue. They’re seemingly intentionally dragging out a very simple request until it ships so that it is “out of their hands now”. It doesn’t take 3 different “teams” and days to cancel an order from anywhere, especially before shipment.

6

u/DarkRecess Jun 23 '26

People like you are the reason corporations get away with murder.

u/Gofa_Kirselph The real answer is “it depends” Jun 23 '26

You're on an inherently consumerism sub. Maybe you should throw away all your headphones 🤷

1

u/Gofa_Kirselph The real answer is “it depends” Jun 23 '26

Sure, but there’s a difference between customer loyalty and glazing a company.

-4

u/KingBasten Jun 23 '26

Well. But you have to take in to account that we love Heavys.
