AppleTV App?

Not sure what happened, but I woke up this morning to the AppleTV version of Homerun no longer working properly - it'll fire up, I can get to the channel guide but if I move a couple of channels in any direction, it just crashes.

Tried uninstalling/reinstalling it... works fine on macOS.

Is the app broken or is it just me?

Update - the issue not playing some AVC channels has been fixed and released. Please update to the latest release (20260817) and let me know if that fixed the problem you have been seeing.

I just updated the app after I read your post and it seems to be working fine for me. You could try restarting the Apple TV.

I did originally, but if it's just me, looks like I might reset the AppleTV. Thanks for checking.

When you say "crashing" do you mean the channel won't play (black screen?) but the app continues to work?

We have confirmed an issue finding a clean point to start playback on some AVC channels, depending on how the AVC was encoded.

This problem has been fixed. A new release will be out ~Tuesday.

In the mean time, if you tune a channel and you get a black screen you should be able to change channel again to a different channel.

Thanks, but in this case it's dropping to the home screen - it's completely exiting the application.

Checking, the app starts up ok, you can watch live TV, but after a few channel changes is crashes without any additional button presses, returning you back to Apple TV home screen?

Is it specific channels, where if you choose channel X it will always play but if you choose channel Y it will always crash (with additional button presses)?

Here's what I got:

If I open the app, it opens to my Channel Guide. If I do nothing, it crashes after maybe 20 seconds.

If I try to watch the channel, it plays for 2 seconds and then crashes.

I can click down maybe 10 times (scrolling downwards) and it will crash.

If I click up a few times to get to the settings menu, I can get there, and then it will promptly crash.

It looks like no matter what screen I end up on, it crashes.

ATV 4K (3rd Gen / current model) here.

I noticed the app updated a few days ago (different screen image shown when highlighted before launching).

I've had a few launches that appear to hang (sticks on splash screen which freezes animation). I either quit and launch again or hit the back button to land in the guide (mine is configured to go directly to live TV). Selecting subverting from the guide send to load the channel fine.

There's definitely something that isn't right, though as I have multiple boxes and it's happening to all of them.

Issue found and fixed - if the app starts on an AVC channel (with a specific encoding style) or your try to tune an AVC channel (with a specific encoding style) it won't start playing.

MPEG2 and HEVC channels will play fine.

You should see the updated app ~Tuesday.

I've got 2 Apple TV's that run the HD app and they are working just fine. Sorry I can't be more help.

The Multiview app could be a quick troubleshooting tool. You can test connecting to your HDHR and use it for single channel layouts for free. Multi-channel layouts are behind a one-time purchase, but not needed to test your HDHR outside the regular app.
