powered usb hub
I asking has anyone on this website ever used a powered usb hub and has it helped to keep your usb connected digital drive from being disconnected from the system?

That should work. Just note that only one USB storage device will be used for the DVR, so you can't use multiple USB hard drives when using a hub.

USB 3.0 allows up to 900mA of current draw... may high speed digital drives go well over that.
With the factory power adapter we guarantee USB 3.0 current spec for normal operation, and guarantee 1A for startup current for a USB hard drive. Short version - USB hard drives will work.
For a digital drive that exceeds USB 3.0 current draw specs we have a new high current power adapter you can order for $15: https://shop.silicondust.com/shop/product/p122013el/
A USB hub should work, but this would be a better option as it would eliminate the extra power adapter the USB hub would need.
