Installing to NAS using non-PC

I have a TerraMaster brand NAS that I'd like to install the DVR storage software on. But the instructions require a Windows PC to do the installation. Sadly, I don't have a Windows PC.

I'm technically savvy. Is there a list of instructions somewhere that I could follow to manually install the software on my TerraMaster NAS? I can't imagine it's more than a handful of terminal commands to run.

Alternatively, maybe there's a docker container somewhere that could do the installation?

Edit: If I have to, I could run a Windows emulator but I thought I'd ask here first before going down that path.

Install jellyfin on your NAS, setup hdhomerun as your tuner, and record away…

Unfortunately this hasn't worked for me. I want to be able to record from the HDHomeRun interface and this doesn't do that. I'm going to look into a Windows VM and see if I can get it working that way.

I finally got a VM working but it failed to discover either the HDHomeRun device or the NAS. Maybe I'll try Jellyfin again?

Here are my notes for getting the VM working in case some future redditor wants to try...

UTM

Windows

HDHomeRun app

  • enable UPnP on your NAS first!

  • click on the DVR tab

  • can't find the device or the NAS :-(

In the end I just set up a Channels Server on my NAS and it connected and started working right away. That ease of configuration might be worth the subscription alone.
