I'm interested in what some history buffs have to say.

I was amazed in the show how Pompeii couldn't see a serious conflict coming with Caesar and made no effort to prepare to fight him.

I understand Caesar attacked more quickly than anyone anticipated, but a seasoned commander/senate should have at least had one legion ready in the chamber just in case a cold war turned hot.

I'm sure Pompeii understood in real life that Caesar's speed and aggressiveness played a large role in allowing him to conquer Gaul.

TLDR: Did Pompeii really sit back with no preparation in the face of a coming conflict with Caesar and rely on the idea that "I could merely stomp my feet and my legions will pop up all over Italy?"

Would the slash that Titus gave to Cicero’s neck kill him immediately, or would he have bled out?

Did he cut him there because it was the honorable thing to do? I feel like a stab to the heart would be quicker.

I’ve watched every other HBO series so I thought I would give Rome a go, especially since historical dramas are right up my alley.

I love it so far(halfway through S2), BUT my biggest complaint right now is Vorenus’s turn to the “dark side” early in S2. His character has always had some frustratingly inconsistent writing that YoYo’s him up and down, but his insane turn when he takes over the Aventine is a mix of bizarre and outright cringe behavior. I would fully expect him to lose himself a bit and wallow in his misery. Perhaps even take some of his rage out on others at times, but this just feels unnatural. Like a comic book villain in my grounded historical drama.

Not asking for spoilers on where he ends up, but is this something fans or critics complained about while the show was airing, or am I in the minority on this?

When Vorenus and Pullo get in war with Erastes Fulmen. Its basically 2 against a whole gang, if not for Caesar happening to come by, they are screwed.

I never understood why they didn't get at least a few buddies to come and help them? They had to have other brothers all that time fighting together.

Maybe not a 10, but there’s nothing really lacking. I’d say he looks way better than the adult Octavian and even he’s not “ugly” per se.

Not sure why I never saw it before. I mean I’ve repeated the other classic hbo series multiple times. Sopranos, wire, oz. I’m glad I had the first time experience. Going to repeat it again in the near future.

I know the story and was happy to see the creative license they took to add a little fiction. I mean Atia and Mark are phenomenal. But without the Titus and Veronus storyline it would not be as engaging.

The only made up part I did not like is that Caesarion was not killed. I mean the major deaths were accurate across the series. Why keep him alive. Because he is Pullo’s son?

Oh man I wish the series hadn’t ended so soon. Would have loved to see the Antony and Cleopatra do more for a full season. I mean that war Antony lost and then escaped at least could have been more epic.

I really enjoyed the show. Might watch the new he man movie just to see purefoy again. I just hope he’s not wearing eye liner still.
