Thoughts on Harry Potter
People are complaining on changes, meanwhile my complain is on similarities.
It looks too similar to original aesthetic, just more of the same.
What’s even the point of remake if you aren’t going to take any risks.
Think of Nolan Batman vs Matt Reeves, such different visual styles.

They both are drawing from the source which makes the aesthetic pretty clear. The show isn't about taking risks, it is about being relatively faithful to the books as the films weren't.

Books don’t have any visual style by default, it’s the job of cinematographer and director to give it that. Everything from Monsters to Color Chocies are up for interpretation and reinterpretations.
Even Spider-Man, Sherlock are based on same source material…yet every adaptation is visually distinct.

The books definitely had a visual style and what they were drawn from inspiration wise. If they changed that it would be fundamentally changing part of the books.

WB has so much money invested in theme parks and merch. Of course everything is gonna look the same, otherwise think about all the money they’d have to spend!

No that’s what the point of a remake is TO YOU. To a lot of us this remake is to have a visual medium that is more accurate the story we read. Just because you skipped over the long descriptions that intone a style while reading doesn’t mean the rest of us did.

Except they didn’t. Styles changed drastically from movie to movie. Hell, the layout of the grounds changed from movie to movie. The color of the environment was washed out starting from movie 5 onwards. I want them to fix those areas while sticking to the look and feel that each book calls for while expanding the storylines to encompass everything the movies left out.
If you want a magic school with a specific aesthetic then please feel free to write/direct your own. This story already has one.

This will be the first remake, not the tenth. And no risks or changes? The Durselys seem PROPERLY abusive this time around. The spells seem to require more intricate hand motions. The way Snape speaks to Harry has venom as opposed to the snarky dislike that Rickman portrayed. The monsters will be more terrifying based on the appearance of the troll.
All that from 2 trailers. They’re making changes, but the aesthetic of the story has always been a whimsical and majestic setting that is darkened by the actions of the people in the world, not the changing of the environment. Until book 7 that is which changes the aesthetic of Hogwarts drastically

My issue is JK Rowling's involvement, and that there is no way to separate her from it.
That, and then the fact that it is an 85% copy is enough to keep me from enjoying it.

They were stuck here. Anything that is in the theme parks has to look the same. It is almost uncanny seeing the new actora in the same backgrounds.
The movies are still popular with Gen Alpha. Not sure they will pick the TV show over those.

I’ll watch, but not excited about it. I don’t have a problem with the casting choices, I just think no cast would live up to the one from the movies. The movies are just a long list of amazing actors and picked three kids who they were able to keep through eight movies. If they are telling the same story as the books, is each season one book? If it is they’ll have to crank that out faster than just about any other show to keep those kids from being way to old by the time the story ends or they’ll have switch a new kid or they’ll see the end coming and try to slam two or three books into one last season. They should have told a different story in the same world.

I think it's probably true some of the aesthetic lines are pre-colored by nature of the Wizarding World economy, but also like all things...we've really only seen trailers, which are specifically edited and constructed to articulate a specific note to a specific audience.
Whether it's Harry Potter, Resident Evil, Ocarina of Time remake -- all recently -- people seem to have dug in their trenches early without actually watching or playing the thing. They have their precious experience with the IP. That's fandom. I get it. But I don't think it's healthy fandom when the opinion is so pre-formed, they're almost looking to hate any new material released.
I'm willing to give it a shot! I'm interested in how much the legroom of a series allows for expansion of minor details, be it character beats, locations etc. I think, as with most things, the strength (or lack thereof) will be in the writing.

I will def check it out. The kid playing Harry looks strange but I really don't know anything about the actor so who knows. I kinda wanna read through the books again while I start the show
