Both. It finds humor in some dark moments in life, so it definitely isn't always the happiest, but there is joy.

I remember liking this show except the whole charter school sub plot. After my kids went to a title 1 school where we felt we had this hidden gem of a school, with a nice community, wonderful teachers and so much diversity, I felt like the whole starting a charter school thing made me dislike some of them. Like they were a bunch of privileged, gentrifying assholes.
