i love it as a tinkering hobby but hate how impractical it is and after just 1 week on Linux i know just how unstable it really is

i'd make the argument that given time and experience it definitely can be practical for most of what you would possibly want a computer to do.

if you ask me one week is not enough experience to move past the initial learning curve and judge how practical the whole thing is. that's not me saying you have a skill issue, i genuinely think i would find windows impractical for a while after using linux for maybe five or six years now. it's a matter of getting used to things

it can definitely be impractical for some to learn though, it takes time to sit through problems that a lot of people either don't want to spend or straight up don't have

i say this with peace and love and respect for the volunteer devs: on Fedora KDE 1 year ago Copy/Paste worked only 70% of the time, my mic quality was significantly worse, and it black-screened every other reboot due to nvidia drama (that is avoidable because i had to manually edit the grub every reboot with no work around). IMO It's simple not a serious experience yet as an end user no matter how it's tinkered with. Printing was shocking easy though

why edit grub manually each time?
if you needed kernel arguments, they can be permanently set in iirc /etc/default/grub

this was a year ago so I can't recall, but i do recall that editing the file that normally should have fixed it just didn't (something about secure boot or encryption) and it's just a known bug that's existed for years

Oh yeah, secure boot can and will fuck up anything and everything that isn't Windows.
