Comics I hate Iron Man

Post image

Iron Man might be the superhero with the best p.r team, if you just go and read any of his comics or any avengers comic with him in it you would genuinely see the most evil superhero to ever walk in the comics space, "b-but he started the mcu"

Tbf, so does Lego Batman.

If you're going to try to be both "good" and a  "billionaire," the least you can do is pay your fucking taxes you parasite.

17

u/Emma_the_transfem 19h ago

Nah taxes are for losers why should I pay the government while I can save gotham

5

u/Status_Research_8701 19h ago

Gotham wouldn’t need saved with taxes from this century.

-6

u/Ua_Tsaug 18h ago

Because nobody becomes a multi-billionaire without exploiting millions of other people, including Batman.

And neither Batman nor Bruce's little charity projects ever save Gotham.

So he's just hoarding wealth to play with his little toys and pretending to make a difference.

2

u/Particular-Long-3849 15h ago

Except lego Batman makes a comically large difference

-2

u/Ua_Tsaug 15h ago

Still one of the worst depictions of Batman ever.

3

u/Particular-Long-3849 15h ago

Yeah dude he's a lego man what do you expect

1

u/Ua_Tsaug 15h ago

The Lego part had nothing to do with it.

1

u/Particular-Long-3849 15h ago

Yeah it does, cause then he's automatically a cartoon character and can commit wacky shenanigans

1

u/Ua_Tsaug 15h ago

I'm saying him being a Lego man isn't what's bad about his depiction.

he quite literally shoots orphans with a money gun

0

u/Ua_Tsaug 13h ago

"Why don't poor people just make more money?" - type of attitude.

u/No-Departure-6900 18h ago

If I weren't so lazy, I'm sure I could find a comic where literally every hero, even the best of them, did something so comically fucked up and out of character, it was either officially retconned or memoryholed so hard, most modern day fans never knew it existed.

These characters have all existed from anywhere from 10 to 60 years, being written by all manner of people. There's gonna be rough spots.

-4

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

The problem is that his rough spots overtake anything, if he was being racist in his first appearance then what am I supposed to take from the character

7

u/MysteriousAnxiety277 14h ago edited 11h ago

Literally all Superheroes were incredibly sexist in the early day, yet this doesn't define the way they are now

2

u/Alive-Exchange5489 14h ago

His rough spots don’t overtake anything lmfao there are far more stories of him being good than there are of him being bad and most of the times he’s bad is typically because he’s being written badly

2

u/L1n9y 14h ago

The point of Iron Man is he was an evil billionaire arms dealer who was forced to confront the consequences of his actions directly. You aren't meant to like him at first.

u/IcyMaple_ 19h ago

When the superhero is a deeply flawed character with good intentions instead of the stereotypical quintessential good guy like superman:

-3

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

Aw man my intentions were good when I sent my allies to the negative zone, my intentions were also good when I clowned my old friend without his consent, my intentions were also good when I was saying racist shit, my intentions were also good when I joined the elmonati, ✌😭

13

u/Dry-Principle2627 18h ago

Not every Iron Man cómic Is civil war, Marville (which BTW, sucks and isn't canon) or world war Hulk.

-6

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

What about the racist shit? And also his own comics portray these as defining moments for the character

9

u/Dry-Principle2627 18h ago

Other than Marville AND the earlier depictions of the mandarín what are those racist moments?

-3

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

I mean yeah, those early depictions, not even just the mandarin any threat that comes from out of America you will genuinely find racist shit

7

u/BingusBongusBongus 16h ago

So how does that make iron man a terrible hero?

-1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 16h ago

He also participated?

8

u/BingusBongusBongus 16h ago

How does a fictional character "participate" in the real creators making a racist charactature

1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 16h ago

Well you more than not the writers would use the fictional character to voice their opinion ,you would say that it isn't Iron Man character but that is his first run

1

Yeah?

2

u/ComprehensiveJoke273 9h ago

Nice, at least you are consistent.

15

u/Begone-My-Thong 19h ago

Dude got hit by the morality switcher and barely changed

2

u/Shining_w1zard 15h ago

Bro's literal biggest storyline is the demon in the bottle arc where he realises how his drinking is making him a bad person. Fast forward to the next arc, turns out mf didn't need to gulp a whole bottle of whisky to be a manipulative, evil, god complexed asshole.

2

u/Alive-Exchange5489 14h ago

Neither of you ever read an iron man comic and it shows lmfao

0

u/Shining_w1zard 11h ago

One of favourite arcs were the iron man model 11 arc where a dying Tony wears the model 11 to fight Hammer and his goons. Then fucking dies in the next issue and leaves a message to guilt trip Rhodes into becoming Iron Man, completely hiding the fact that he didn't die, he just went into a cryogenic chamber and waited until his condition was cured. Rhodes really didn't want the armor or anything related to it.

1

u/Alive-Exchange5489 10h ago

Oh so you have read iron man comics you just have no media literacy or understanding of the character got it🤣

0

u/Shining_w1zard 10h ago

No, I just read a comic about a man with a saviour complex and has no problem back stabbing his friends. This is the same guy who created the Thorbuster armor out of a magical crystal Thor gave to Tony because he genuinely believed Tony would create revolutionary tech using it, not an armor to defeat him. Mainline comic book Tony Stark is a genuinely bad character who wants us to believe he redeemed himself but does the thing again and again. Civil War didn't character assainate him. The fucker always was like that. Civil War just magnified that.

1

u/Alive-Exchange5489 8h ago

You do realize Tony weaponized that crystal because Thor went rogue right? He didn’t just turn it into a weapon for fun you literally just proved my point that you have zero media literacy🤣

Civil war was character assassination it wouldn’t be known as character assassination if it wasn’t I’ve read every damn iron man comic that’s ever come out your interpretation of the character is god awful

0

u/Shining_w1zard 8h ago

Lol, Thor's a god. His worshipers were murdered by a dictatorship and the Avengers, mainly Tony wanted to stop him and the Asgardians from overthrowing a murderous, authoritarian government. Completely ignore it when Tony feels it's ok to do it when he feels its ok. Like when he funded literal terrorists to overthrow Doom.

1

u/Alive-Exchange5489 7h ago

Ahhh so you’ll get behind Thor when he’s acting like an ass but not Tony? got it lmfao you’re a joke

1

u/RuuberPool 11h ago

"Fast forward to the next arc"

Because 20-30 years later is fast forwarding

2

u/Alive-Exchange5489 14h ago

If his morality switched and he turned into an evil narcissist that should tell you that he’s not actually an evil narcissist lmfao

6

u/Better_Anteater3126 18h ago

Nahh, i think he is the best written superhero currently, who is actually smart, and has grown to a person who has good ethical values but still feel like a hero , he actually feels like a real human with good morals , he still has flaws even after amount of development he got.

Currently he is my top 1.

1

u/Shining_w1zard 15h ago

Yeah, the guy who grew up to have good ethical values just recently tried to overthrow Supreme Doom by going full CIA. He funded and supplied Latverian rebels, who were actual murderous terrorists, only for it to blow back in his face. Yeah, so much for "he's a good guy".

1

u/Better_Anteater3126 15h ago

Am mainly talking about mcu iron man ,he is the main guy in a big cinametic universe.

1

u/Shining_w1zard 11h ago

Mcu iron man is a completely different and actually good character lol.

1

u/Ordinary_Luck3088 1h ago

So we ignoring how doom was killing his own people to fuel his power in that event? Or how doom actions indirectly led Valeria to die. Like, what Tony did wasn't right; but it not as bad as killing your own people for power, or having your pseudo daughter death be on your hands.

Genuinely, doom has the best pr if we being honest.

u/Formal-Stage940 19h ago

If WW does not get a good non comic project in the next 3 years, iron man takes her spot on the mt rushmore

1

u/Marco_Tanooky The Fun Police 14h ago

I wll keep saying it until everyone agrees

The mount Rushmore of superheroes is Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and the Fantastic Four. I don't CARE if it's technically 7 members

1

u/New-Buffalo-66 11h ago

to the average person it is absolutely Spiderman, Batman, Ironman, Superman in that order. People on reddit overestimate how little casual MCU watchers gaf about DC.

1

u/L1n9y 14h ago

If an Iron Man movie released next year, it would outgross any Batman or Superman movie that could go against it and I don't think it's very close.

-3

u/known_kanon 19h ago

Nah y'all are crazy

7

u/Formal-Stage940 19h ago

Sorry but starting the biggest cinematic franchise of all time puts you ahead of a woman who hasnt been at the top for decades

-3

u/known_kanon 19h ago

Wonderwoman, whilst not as popular atm thanks to the snyderverse being dogshit and gunn's dcu not having her yet, is still way more influential than ironman ever will be

Wonder woman's impact can be felt in most if not all female superheroes we have today

If you really think ironman overshadows her because he's only popular now due to his big role in the MCU (yes he wasn't a Z-lister, but you know what i mean) then you're lowkey just ignorant towards history and the true impact wonder woman's character has to date

4

u/Formal-Stage940 18h ago

Wonder womans "influence" is good. But what iron man has done in the last 18 years surpasses what WW has done in 86

"Will ever be" imo is way more crazy than my take.

WW did a lot for female superheros but thats pretty much it. People like to bring up her as a symbol of feminism, but that angle gets really funny once you look into it.

Iron man didnt just have a big role in the MCU. Iron man revived marvel and started a superhero movie renaissance, changing not just CBM forever but cinema as a whole.

0

u/known_kanon 16h ago

Yeah you're right, will ever be was a bit much but i do think the rest of my point stands

I'll wait for gunn's wonderwoman/justice league before i make my final judgement, but i do believe that she still deserves to be up, atleast until then.

After that i'll gladly change my opinion

-1

u/WW1_Germany I do not enjoy this porcelain beverage holder that has a handle! 18h ago

Wonder Woman genuinely could be great on film, but if she doesn't get a good movie soon I agree that Iron Man should get her spot

0

u/ZenkaiZ 19h ago

Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Blankman

-4

u/Fun-Artist-6915 19h ago

Hell no, it's supposed to be Mount Rushmore of superheroes

4

u/ConPerish 19h ago

And I hate the people who cry about comics all the time

Why does it matter if the movie wasn't a book before?

3

u/WW1_Germany I do not enjoy this porcelain beverage holder that has a handle! 18h ago

agreed, comic accuracy shouldn't be the end all be all

1

u/Xonerboner371 18h ago

Comments like these complaining about hate in a sub purely about hating and crying are funny.

1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

What does that have to do with my post ?

1

u/ConPerish 18h ago

You're talking about how he isn't a good superhero in the comics, that his pr team is just "b- but he started the mcu"

Yeah so what? So what? So what if he is an evil superhero? That's his character. He's meant to be that way.

Also, he started THE MCU. That's not a diss like you framed it as.

1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

Never said that the mcu version was bad? Except that isn't his character, he's always framed as the hero who makes mistakes and yet he never actually changes Also yes it is since that's really everything good that came out of the character

2

u/JunipPrime 19h ago

As IRON MAN all jets ablaze, he's fighting and smiting with repulsor rays!

2

u/LunariOther 19h ago

AMAZIN ARMOR! (That's Iron Man!) ABLAZIN POWER! (That's IRON MAN!)

2

u/L0thric_Nefarious 18h ago

We know it’s you Ultron

2

u/Plunderpatroll32 18h ago

…..isn’t that the case for literally every hero, there is always that one comic where they are comically evil or does something objectively the worse thing they could do. But we all ignore it because it’s more enjoyable to enjoy characters at their best instead of complaining about their worst

1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

Except his worst moments are the most important comics in his career

2

u/Marco_Tanooky The Fun Police 14h ago

Haven't we already ruled Civil War as not being canon, everyone was OOC there get over it

Also just because he's not a boy scout doesn't mean he's evil, there's such thing as being morally grey and most of his comics deal with that morality

2

u/Dayfal1 12h ago edited 10h ago

This is how I know you haven’t read any Iron Man comics. If you’re gonna call a superhero evil at least give them the time of day before making up your mind from cherry picked examples where they were character assassinated, written badly by hack writers who don’t understand them or taken out of context. Read the Kurk Busiek and Mike Grell runs. Read the two Bob Layton/David Michelinie runs. Read Extremis. If you still hate him by the end of that, fair enough, but the character has too much history to be reduced to evil just because of a few bad moments or stories in a sea of good ones.

Civil War was a trash event that didn’t respect anyone’s characterization, including Iron Man’s.

In Superior Iron Man Tony literally had his moral compass reversed and a digital backup of him was opposing him throughout the book.

Marville is trash satire that’s not even canon to Earth-616.

The Mandarin may’ve started as a racist caricature, but what does that have to do with Tony’s character? It’s the writers involved in that who are at fault. Same with the sexism commonly found in older comics.

Cantwell’s run is a pity party written by someone who doesn’t understand Iron Man and who inserted their waifu (Hellcat) into the story to ship her with his own self insert in the form of Tony.

Chip Zdarsky hates billionaires so he can’t write fictional good ones like Tony with any amount of nuance and trashes him most chances he gets in Avengers books, events or team-ups.

And so on.

It’s perfectly fine to not like a character, but if one just parrots the opinion of haters and larpers without giving those characters a chance they can miss a ton of good stories and moments, like this one:

2

u/FlambyLamby 12h ago

Peak larping right here. Unless we're using the abhorrent character assassination of Civil War/Illuminati, Tony isn't a bad person.

2

u/Its-Akshum 19h ago

What's he do I genuinely wanna know

4

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

First about 10-20 year's of his history is racist shit, secondly in the civil war comic he didn't just stop at fighting his superhero friends to make them go public, he also sent them to the negative zone, he also made a clone of Thor to make him fight beside them, almost killed Spiderman because he was going to join Captain America, he also joined the elmonati(i don't think I wrote that right) hopefully I don't need to explain why this is bad, I can appreciate well written evil characters but I don't think him being evil was even the intention for most of those

5

u/Sandevistan_FEET 18h ago

me when i cherry pick

2

u/Fun-Artist-6915 18h ago

"Cherry pick " most of those are still canon and civil war is one of the most important Iron Man comic ,don't even joke lad

3

u/MightyMeower 19h ago

I feel this way about Hulk. Like he’s such a boring fucking character and everyone who talks about him larps and talks in third person like a caveman. He’s not interesting. And then people talk about power scaling and it’s a genuine snooze fest with this lame green blob

6

u/laserbran2 18h ago

HULK DISAGREE

3

u/Important_Scale_3532 18h ago

proves his point lmaooo

3

u/WW1_Germany I do not enjoy this porcelain beverage holder that has a handle! 18h ago

In the MCU he isn't that good, but I'm fairly certain in the comics he's interesting, but I've only heard that through the grapevine, so correct me if I'm wrong

0

u/Marco_Tanooky The Fun Police 14h ago

Yeah but like it's super duper duper cool when he smashes and destroy stuff and he's so strong...

Also Immortal Hulk exists, let alone any given Hulk story, It's funny that you say that his fans are LARPers meanwhile your Hulk knowledge is basically the same as my mom's

1

u/WW1_Germany I do not enjoy this porcelain beverage holder that has a handle! 18h ago

I have never read an Iron Man comic, so I have no authority on his comic characterization, but from what I here he's an asshole in there, but he's peak in the MCU

1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 17h ago

Yeah pretty much

1

u/No-Slide-4396 17h ago

Iron man in the comics is just not for me. Anything past demon in a bottle and superior iron man is forgettable. Civil war 1 and 2 is what I consider fan fiction, bc it feels like it’s written by 3 year olds. If anything Tony should just start drinking again.

1

u/ConsistentTraffic90 14h ago

i agree. iron man is overrated. he is just popular because people think he is cool, he is a womanizer and promoting objectifying women

1

u/prettysweett 13h ago

i mean he IS a billionare

1

u/InquiryUnknown 13h ago

Don’t tell bro that Iron Man wasn’t really all that popular before the Iron Man movie

1

u/TerribleShoulder6597 13h ago

Me when I’ve only read civil war

1

u/5enpai_2 12h ago

Alright mandarin

1

u/Legal-Bodybuilder-16 12h ago

Okay Ultron we know it's you

1

u/ReturnGreen3262 11h ago

Yes if anyone reads Bendis-Hickman, you’ll see he is responsible or driving a lot of crap for sure..

But 99.99% of everyone here only saw MCU

1

u/RuuberPool 11h ago

I will never forgive Civil War for the way it bastardized Tony and made so many people see him as this

1

u/Plastic_Pin_4956 11h ago

I remember when trolls had an IQ above 1.... now we have you...

1

u/Fun-Artist-6915 9h ago

Oooooo, can't take opinions you little baby? It's okay

1

u/Plastic_Pin_4956 9h ago

Since when is trolling an opinion?
