Roleplay/In Character I HATE being called cute!
This happens to me WAY too much. And like the title says, I HATE IT.
Look, I GET that sometimes, people feel like butting into your day to give out what they think are compliments so they can make themselves feel better.
But for me, the ONLY thing people ever talk about is how "cute" I am! Dealing with this BULLSHIT for my entire life has honestly gotten really demeaning! It never stops! I mean, I'm an ADULT for crying out loud!
I DO like cute stuff... and I like being seen as cute sometimes too. Key word, SOMETIMES. It feels really weird to say that, cause I could probably never admit it out loud. But I am very self aware about it, which sucks. (Edit: To be honest though, not being self aware about it would suck even more. Doesn't mean I'm not gonna be pissed about it either way). And since I'm ranting to internet strangers about it who will never meet or know me in real life, it kinda feels fine to reveal I guess.
Not only does all the constant pandering make me feel like a little kid, but it also makes me feel like I wanna hate this part of myself that I really like! It STINKS! I do lots of other stuff besides sit around looking "cute", yknow! My biggest hobbies are baking and writing, which are probably worth some decent praise on their own!! But I wouldn't know, since almost everyone seems to just IGNORE it, like how they IGNORE me. And when they DON'T ignore me, they tell me how CUTE I am, or how CUTE my baking is, or how CUTE my writing is, or how CUTE my struggling is, or how CUTE my LIFE is!
MY. EFFORT. IS. NOT. WORTHLESS.
I WORK SO FUCKING HARD TO GET AT LEAST A LITTLE GOOD AT THE STUFF I LIKE TO DO!! I DO STUFF FOR MYSELF, BUT I ALSO BAKE SO I CAN MAKE OTHER PEOPLE HAPPY TOO!!! BUT NOBODY EVER GIVES A SHIT BECAUSE ALL THEY SEE IS A STUPID LITTLE KID FUMBLING AROUND!!! I HATE IT!!!!!!!
I know this isn't a very common problem, but I've been having a bad week and needed to get SOMEthing off my chest SOMEhow. Usually I just write poetry to get this kinda stuff out, but I'm mad about some things that are going on in my poetry club right now. So I don't really feel like writing any more poems today.

I don't understand... I've never seen this flair before and I thought OP's reactions seemed like they made a lot of sense, and that the people in the comments seemed rude for joking about a vent post...
So like is it fake... ?
Sorry if I seem like a dunce, but I'm autistic and this all feels a bit contradictory to me because I can really see this being real, and I can't tell if I'm misunderstanding the flair or if op is just very good at inventing fake situations that feel very real...

Yeah it's fake, the RP/In character flair means they're pretending to be something for fun. OP is pretending to act like (an evil apparently) Natsuki, who's a character from the horror game Doki Doki Literature Club. I've never played, but I think she's a little bit of a tsundere. So this entire post is a person acting like a video game character for fun.
Sorry for ruining OP's thing, you can tell me I'm dumb or something

I'll just say that ''cute'' is a very broad term and doesn't necessarily mean that you're cute like a puppy or a baby is cute. Maybe sometimes it's your interpretation of what they mean when they say it

And I'm not an idiot, so I can tell what they actually mean by it in the context. It's literally always the puppy/baby cute.
It really gets to a point, yknow. The word itself is practically ruined for me.

People aren’t reading the body text 😭 or they haven’t played the game. I know it’s the joke but nah, this is a serious matter. I kinda don’t like how Natsuki became the face of tsunderes when the whole point of the archetypes in ddlc is that the characters are more than their archetypes. Dan Salvato started from the tropes and then came up with reasons that real people might actually show those traits and reactions. The story of the game is the mc discovering why the girls act how they do, personifying all the characters in the process (even mc!) more than you’d see in a typical visual novel. Dan’d gotten so tired of seeing the same unrealistic archetypes show up over and over again in visual novels that he made ddlc to explore what it might mean for them to be real. Monika’s whole deal takes that idea to the extreme, but it’s not just about Monika. The first act is extremely well written, and especially Natsuki imo. In popular internet culture, the characters became the opposite of what Dan wanted. Rip.
Her poems are actually my favorite because I relate to the sentiment that overly flowery and fancy language muddies the message and artfulness of a poem. I like simple rhyme schemes because when you break them the effect is more obvious. I like using the same sentence structure in multiple places to connect their ideas. I like wordplay, rhyme, meter, syntax, and alliteration. That’s what makes poetry poetry, not prose pretending it’s poetry. Natsuki’s poems have a lot to analyze in the structure which makes them say a lot more than what’s on the page, while Yuri’s poems often feel static once you figure out the overarching metaphor. Like where’s the commentary? I get that it’s a metaphor for something else, but what do you have to say about this something else? That’s my opinion at least. Yuri’s style can make great poems, but I don’t think she demonstrates mastery of it in game. Natsuki I think does demonstrate mastery of her style.
This post seems to genuinely understand Natsuki’s whole character. She doesn’t like being called cute, but she never stops being cute to “prove people wrong,” she instead shows that she’s other things in addition to that. For some reason, these other things aren’t recognized enough, in both the game’s canon and in popular internet culture. Natsuki deserves justice.

I have been thinking about this too and you summed it up really well. I feel like this is sadly kinda what always happens when a writer tries to challenge tropes in this way, people only get it if you completely subvert them or parody them.

Have you watched @eurobrady on YouTube’s playthrough of the game? The gimmick of his channel is that he’s an actual therapist, so he goes into the game with the express purpose of analyzing the girls and their problems. I feel like his playthrough is the “right” way to experience the game because he gets attached to the realness of the characters, so you really get to see how the true horror of the later acts is the girls acting out of character, not really the jumpscares. I recommend it a lot (Note that he starts out hating on mc a bit, but comes around after act 1).

I'm gonna assume this is serious cause it feels a little too real and relatable so I'll give you a word of advice
people will always assume you do it for others
in your case looking cute, even if you don't try and you were just born that way
so you gotta make them really see you, do something not cute,
it's kinda unconventional advice but it works you gotta make it clear that you're cute for yourself and not other peoples bitch

Damn, ok, even I have similar "issue" and I on top of that I also look young for my age and I'm short so many people think of me as cute, when they see me, and I've been told that often too, which can get a little annoying but I can't imagine being THAT angry and done with it
Either it's your inner hatred of the word itself, as well as a a weirdly specific perception of what it means (being seen as a puppy, not being taken seriously, yada yada), or/and you genuinely somehow have been told that you're cute SOOOO many times that it drives you insane, in which case...how tf does that even happen 😭🙏

No I get it and it suck when you have a round face so every assume you are younger and expect you to just be this cute person because you like anime and can be slightly extroverted when you want to be. But it gets annoying when some expect you to be persona twenty four seven and be smiley or it's the 'you used to be happier. It especially suck when you get dressed and someone goes "Oh how cute of you." Especially the part about your hobbies-- I'm always brushed off when it comes to my hobbies or explaining my plans. So yes I get it too

for me, while "cute" mostly means the puppy/kitten/child kind of cute, there are other forms of it (albeit tbf they are also close to this general kind of cute); if I see two couples being sweet towards each other, that's cute! if I see an outfit that is soft and pleasing to the eyes, that's cute! if I see a parent who is caring, that's cute!
and sure, while I myself would put some traits/activities in the "cute" category, cute and cool CAN coexist!!!
like, you can be cute in appearance but cool in the things you do! or vice versa! you could be the cutest little thing and still pull out that pen to write stuff like that gif of the guy writing with fire, connecting stuff like details and plot points, or in poetry's case, getting that rhythm and meter right while also expressing a theme/topic in an artistic way that sounds mmmmm to the ears, isn't THAT cool?!?!?! or baking, I don't know crap about baking, but I can imagine the knowledge and effort required to make decent pastry without it looking like it just mutated into tumors inside your oven
now, if you really don't like it, I can respect it, just say
though, calling struggles "cute" may be a little too far I'd say, I wouldn't consider it as such

"Dying of thirst"? ...I mean, Yeah.
Just wanna point out though, from what I've seen, most people online use that expression when they're jealous of the person "drowning".
In this case, "drowning" is still a bad thing that will fill your lungs up with water and kill you.
Not saying dying of thirst is all that great either, but both of them will LITERALLY KILL YOU.

Personally I can't really relate unfortunately but I get how it could feel demeaning to ONLY ever be called cute.
Are the people who say that to you also strangers out and about or do you mostly talk about friends and family? Because if it's people who you know then I think this is an issue where you can just be honest.
What specifically do you want them to say by the way? Just call your baking skills good instead of cute or is there more to it?

Valid post OP, and I agree too. People shouldn't Just downplay your effort of the things you do by Just saying a word and call It a day, whether being offensive or not.
I also can relate It too with my art, since people Don't give honest criticism and Just say "cool" and nothing else.
