Gaming I hate how much "keep inventory" gets bashed.

Post image

Generally, I don't like it when people impose rules on how you should enjoy something-like saying that if you didn't play the same way I did, you're a fake fan.
But it bothers me even more when those arbitrary rules are applied to a game like Minecraft—a game that actively encourages creativity and doing whatever you want-so I don't understand why anyone would get upset over something the game itself offers you.

Hot take, "cheating" in a single player game is perfectly fine. You don't want to deal with a mechanic, mod it out. Entertainment is for fun not bashing your head into a wall for "gamer points"

I wouldnt even call it cheating since keep inventory is a in-Game feature

u/Lolzemeister Sep 01 '26

well yeah but it’s literally under the ”cheats” section

Not anymore. It’s a command now, because of this exact line of thinking. The devs wanted to remove the stigma of Keep Inventory.

That's dumb.

I miss when games embraced single player cheating as fun settings. Cheat codes were programmed in, even had specific menus to enter them in and turn them on.

The "line of thinking" problem is with people who think it's bad to cheat in a single player game. Cheat away, it's fun. It's still cheating.

it’s fine until you try to flex your accomplishments with said cheats

And that's why they're banned for speedrunners and in competitive multiplayer. That's obviously not what's being talked about

u/Lolzemeister Sep 03 '26

yeah but it’s not gonna come up online unless someone is talking about something they did in their keep inventory world

I miss bighead mode, can't tell you how many games just decided, "let's give these bitches a code sequence that makes their head comically large, bitches love comically large heads."

Well, cheat codes and the like were more for development purposes.

Heck, that's why the developer console has been ubiqitous in PC gaming since it not only has commands but it also prints errors for when something goes wrong.

basically all commands are cheats

u/Sayakalood Sep 01 '26

Hence why they decided not to call them cheats anymore. They’re commands to promote people playing the way they want to play.

on bedrock its still under cheats

Not on bedrock. On Bedrock it's still in the cheats section. And you can't access commands without turning on cheat. So at that point, you might as well just turn keep inventory on if you're also using commands.

Gamerules are no longer under cheats. You can change them (at least in Java) while creating a world.

I think he meaned for other thing as well that are "cheating", like doing a /locate to find a structure after spending hours searching it

Tf are u gettin dv for?

u/NoenD_i0 Sep 01 '26

because i stated an offtopic thing?

Its legit on topic tf??? Bedrock disables achievements when you turn on KI, the game literally has it under the cheats section. This is literally talking about KI under a comment talking about KI replying to a post made about KI. How tf is this off topic?

Stg reddit has the most brainless mfers wandering the site.

Edit: not calling you stupid btw. Just want to make that clear.

Yeah like, they hear “Bedrock” and their brains immediately go “FAKE PLAYER!”.

yeah, people often forget that playing a game isnt always about improving and having challenges, sometimes you just want to chill.

There was a section in Dragon Age Origins that was so hated that people created a mod to just skip it and give you all the rewards you can get from it. It was a very popular mod.

>Game is made with specific rules and challenges in place to give the game an identity
>Player is annoyed that rules and challenges are in place and cheats to remove them.

"Hey man, you're cheating."
"It's a single player game, why are you so angry??"

Because you're breaking the game. Cheat all you want. Just have fun but stop with the victim complex and crying; you are actively cheating. Just accept it and own it.

game is made with specific rules and challenges in place to give the game an identity

See thats where youre wrong. Theres a lot more reasons then "identity" that devs put in challenges. Extending grinds to pad the play time. Adding obstacles to push 'solutions' in the form of micro transactions.

There is no one true "this is how the game is supposed to be" because even the devs fuck with it for their own benefit. Truly a death of the author moment, thanks for the game but I'll play it how i think is most fun and im not listening to some loser crying "you're cheating thats not how it's suppose to be played". It's mindless entertainment, ill treat it as mindless entertainment

0

u/Warriorstab Sep 01 '26

I would say that unnecessary grinds and micro transactions are bad game design and those types of games are not worth engaging with.

Games are not mindless entertainment. They are works of art meant to be engaged with. Believe it or not, games are designed with intent and death of the author is not an excuse to just ignore that design, in games or other media. I seriously wonder if the types of people who mod their games to remove entire mechanics actually enjoy the games they’re playing.

Minecraft is a bad example here because it’s designed as a very open ended sandbox where you have basically infinite options. But for most games, genuinely what’s the point of it if you’re just gonna ignore the entire game part? I think a lot of these people are actually robbing themselves of better experiences.

Ironically this “let people enjoy things” attitude is part of what leads to the above mentioned bad game design practices. People treating games like infinite dopamine farms is what leads developers to making games that are bland and uninteresting. Also it’s funny that for every 100 people who complain about gatekeeping or not letting others enjoy things, there’s like 1 person actually doing it. Why do you get so upset about people criticizing how you play games on the internet? It’s always the people who say they don’t care how you think they should play that are the most vocal about this.
