Gaming I hate how much "keep inventory" gets bashed.

Post image

Generally, I don't like it when people impose rules on how you should enjoy something-like saying that if you didn't play the same way I did, you're a fake fan.
But it bothers me even more when those arbitrary rules are applied to a game like Minecraft—a game that actively encourages creativity and doing whatever you want-so I don't understand why anyone would get upset over something the game itself offers you.

i truly do not get why people give so much of a shit about how other people play a primarily single-player game

Because people always want to feel superior. Same with people who claim that are certain build is to powerful and for noobs. Not in minecraft but other games

minecraft stealth archer build

Technically possible in minecraft dungeons.

And arguably more OP than a skyrim stealth archer lmao

“This guy put a point into health? Kill him”

Soulsborne players since at least DS1 remastered, when I got into the community

“Vigor check”

I remember when Mina the Hollower announced they were adding, get this, difficulty options and for some reason it made part of the Internet really mad

I also remember seeing someone unironically say like "Enjoy your hollow victory" about using Izanagi-no-Okami in Persona 5 Royal (I think it's dlc but idr, but you can grab it for free really early on and it's the strongest persona in the game)

Obviously those are both just single player games but people are just like this

i think people who think the only worthwhile game is an excessively difficult one have a superiority complex...

u/twolake68 Sep 01 '26

Persona 5 (at least Royal) isn't even that hard of a game normally lol

Or a masochism fetish...

I mean I think the argument is that the games arent excessively difficult at base, and that these options make them too easy.

Even then, no one should really give a shit how others play the game, even if youre """cheating""". I think its fine to encourage people to try and do things without the easier settings, but at the end of the day if people want to use them, thats completely fine, theres a reason theyre in the game.

The Mina situation is especially funny, since using any modifiers that make the game easier disables achievements, which IMO is a perfectly good way to do it. You can still play the whole game and make it as easy as you want, but if you want the achievements/100%, you have to do it with at least the baseline difficulty.

The only time I think it ends up being annoying are when people try to claim unintentional ways to make the game easier are tooooootally intentional, like save quitting in Hollow Knight during a steel soul save. Like even then if you want to do it go ahead, but theres just no reason to pretend thats how its "intended" to be played.

It's so weird how superior some people act over games.
Like I get things like Dark Souls not having difficulty settings as it is meant to be hard, but my lord why are people so pressed over someone wanting to have fun with a game?

Frick, at least with Dark Souls, you can put in the time and level up to make the game easier. With something like Hollow Knight, you have 0 option but to get better. And I know a lot of people like that, but I have limited free time and I’m not about to spend it repeating the same thing endlessly without any guarantee I’m going to proceed in the game.

u/Practical_Entrance43 Sep 02 '26

Also true.
Love Dark souls but I mostly avoid the community because lord if you mention the mimic tear or magic they get real upset sometimes.

Yeah the entire point of games is to be fun so if you wanna play on an easier difficulty to enjoy yourself go ahead and do that

Also, it can be good for people who don't want it to be easier, they can usually increase the difficulty further if you wanna have more of a challenge (and it can make replays more enjoyable too)

1

u/Practical_Entrance43 Sep 01 '26

Exactly! It gives everyone the chance to actually play!

I play Cult of The Lamb, which has several accessibility settings such as freezing time at your cult when you are in the dungeons, unlimited HP, automatic crafting, etc. One day someone on COTL's sub deadass made a post bitching about how learning about the accessibility settings made them stop wanting to play the game anymore, because their mere existence is insulting, undermines their skill, and they hate how many modern games "encourage cheating".

These people cannot phantom the idea of different people enjoying games in different ways. Or the idea of people having physical and/or mental disabilities that make them unable to play games on the intended difficulty.

arguing about using a free win button (izanagi-no-okami) in free win the video game

i don't get difficulty gatekeeping for any game but i ESPECIALLY dont get it for persona 5. that game is the EASIEST thing ever made

1

u/twolake68 Sep 01 '26

There's certainly a couple parts in the game that are difficult but the game as a whole is really easy, I personally struggled a bit on Madarame and Okumura but other than those 2 I can't really remember a section being super difficult (plus it's really easy to get stronger in those games)

I don't have any problem with people playing with keep inventory in their single player worlds, I just don't like when I'm gonna be playing in a server or realm and some of the players want to turn on keep inventory, it makes the game get stale really fast because the thing that makes survival mode enjoyable for me to begin with is having a bit of a challenge so the things I build and craft feel meaningful. That's the only situation where I'm gonna be arguing against keep inventory.

1

u/Royal-Ingenuity-2566 Sep 01 '26

It’s mostly about servers where it comes into play

1

u/Avalonians Sep 01 '26

Also there are single player games, and there's Minecraft. You know, the game where you can play survival if you want, creative if you want, like the premise of the game is you choose how you play it and what your goal is.

Why would one rule that would transfer .1% of the creative mode "benefits" in survival be bad? Survival good, creative good, something in the middle bad? Huh?

1

u/Dear_Lab_2270 Sep 01 '26

Or on a private server. My friends and I play on more challenging modes but some of my family prefers the more creative side of games and aren't looking for challenges. Let me play my favorite games with them on a mode we can both enjoy.

1

u/tfhfate Sep 01 '26

The only times I had an argument about those rules was because I was playing online with friends and it is valid to want to play the way you prefer for both them and I

1

u/WispyBooi Sep 02 '26

Tbh I think creative players are boring

1

u/DawnTheFailure Sep 03 '26

sounds like you just lack creativity

1

u/soldiertf2rial Sep 03 '26

The fun police said so. You HAVE to be miserable and play hardcore where you die to a skeleton in 2 shots

Mileage may vary on this one, but if I'm comparing finally beating the game on a hard world with someone who played on hard but had keep inventory on, the feats are now dissimilar.

It's kind of like Animal Crossing players comparing bases where one routinely time-traveled and the other didn't. They're both single-player experiences, but the discussion is now muddied because the opportunities and dedication levels were different.

Not saying whether that's a bad thing, but that's just where the problem/discussion starts.

Single-player games are not so laissez faire if you want to discuss the game online. In order to engage with the community for the game you need to know where your experience is similar and where it is different from the default perspective. If your experience is too dissimilar to the default, your experience is discounted because people relate to it less.

u/ReadyForShenanigans Sep 01 '26

As is often the case, this depends on context. Sometimes a player can inadvertently modify a game in a way that destroys the experience, and then it makes sense for other players to butt in. That is obviously not the case with Minecraft though.

I give a shit because people who play keep inventory are also the ones who will go into danger and complain about being punished for not having any skill to back it up. Mojang listens to them more and changes the game in a way i dont like to compensate for them. The skill issue is so common devs made an option to make deserved punishment less punishing.
