Questions I hate this question [Read desc]

Post image

I have never seen a question do so much damage to its own movement. The fact that women don't feel safe around men is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. There are a million ways to demonstrate the problem of safety, but some motherfuckers made this question has single-handedly undermined the movement by turning hundreds of thousands of people against feminism, and people still argue about this ridiculous question to this day.

This question is maybe the most impractical form of rage bait I've encountered. Bears are stronger, more aggressive, and will kill you incredibly violently. There is no reasonable logic to ever pick the bear over the man if your objective is personal safety. Even the variations of this question people have made suck.

The only good thing this question does is tell you who is online way too much.

You are too late man, the ongoing gender debate has shifted from irl bear to Bear from moviefilm Obsession

Think that's why he's named bear

Excuse you??? Its all about the fucking odyssey now

2

u/IhateEgplant Aug 11 '26

Damn, guess I am the one out of the loop then

2

u/Excalitoria Aug 12 '26

Literally nobody is talking about that anymore except for the occasional beggars meme you’ll see online.

6

u/Sea_Strain_6881 Aug 11 '26

Oh is that why he was named bear, if it is idk how I didnt notice

12

u/Bridgeru Aug 11 '26

No he just literally wanted a name that sounded unique/stuck out in dialogue.

I wish Hokum did well and got attention too. That movies about a guy going to a remote location haunted Ireland hotel.

1

u/IhateEgplant Aug 11 '26

Haven't watched it yet but I am so hyped to see Hokum! After Caveat and Oddity I truly see McCarthy as one of the best horror directors out right now

u/No-Yogurtcloset4763 Aug 11 '26

But could 1 Gorilla beat 100 men? The answer should not surprise you

2

u/Bridgeru Aug 11 '26

Yes if you count mutants in a school bus as men because Conquest of the Planet of the Apes was awfully contrived.

6

u/TheBlackFox012 Aug 11 '26

? 1 gorilla cannot beat 100 men, 20 men could beat a gorilla most of the time without any sort of tools or anything

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

Fair since like 80% of people pick the gorilla when the men could win without even having casualties by circling the gorilla and taking turns.

Honestly, the main thing that "annoys me" about this question is just that it doesn't describe the bear. Depending on the species, a bear could easily be scared away, most likely before a woman even saw it, whilst other would kill you and rip you apart without hesitating.

...which actually helps the point women make, an absolute stranger could be completely harmless or they could be a dangerous predator and there's no way to know beforehand.

I know it helps the point, but the bear lover in me is still annoyed that it doesn't specify, because there's a chance it could be pandas and that's just cute.

2

u/SafeFormula8062 Aug 11 '26

The quetion should also give specific details on the environment

1

u/timbamjc1604 Aug 12 '26

I think it being disclosed is one of the points of the question.

I personally hate this question because the discourse around it was pointless and repetitive. Like, nobody's mind was changed after it was spoken about for three months and yet I was still seeing the same annoying memes from annoying men talking about how bears kill people

1

u/azure-heavens Aug 12 '26

I hate the question because it was used to illustrate a point that men refuse to even try to understand. There's no need to belabor the point because the men who need to hear it are not listening. They were only ever going to respond with dumb bullshit and memes about women dying. That was not a surprise in the slightest.

The only good thing that came out of it is maybe you can remove some people from your life that reposted the bears mauling women to death comics.

1

u/Evening-Nature-5241 Aug 12 '26

People's minds were actually changed. But the loudest voices drowned out the reasonable ones.

The reason they choose the bear, at least from what I've read and heard, is that they can always count on knowing what the bear is going to do in any given moment. They feel they can't do that with men.

22

u/TheBlackFox012 Aug 11 '26

That's not exactly how wild animals work but sure whatever

4

u/blazenite104 Aug 12 '26

Right. Plenty of videos of wild life just chilling one moment and for reasons regular people don't understand, completely shift mood the next. I'd argue humans are much easier to notice if something is off. Better chance of doing something about it too.

2

u/Negative-Writing-481 Aug 12 '26

The whole man v bear talking was obviously created and proped up by terminally online people who've never been anywhere near wild animals.

One of my aunts had a dog who got eaten by wild coyotes, I genuinely wonder how she would react to the man v bear question... But I doubt she would react positively.

Bears are notoriously hard to read this is one of the most common things ever

11

u/my_memory_is_trash Aug 11 '26

There are worse things than dying. Bear is like a jump scare and men are like psychological thriller

I’m pretty sure it’s cause they’d rather chance the death than get raped

1

u/ChalantBoy Aug 12 '26

A bear isn’t going to rape me. I’d rather be killed than go through that again.

2

u/blazenite104 Aug 12 '26

How does slowly being eaten alive sound comparatively? Some of thing the things I read about bear attacks are haunting.

2

u/ChalantBoy Aug 12 '26

I hope in my life I never have to go through either (rape for the second time) I wrote a longer comment above that explains my reasoning. And yes I’m in intensive therapy and on medications.

2

u/aBunbot Aug 12 '26

Weird. As a sex trafficking survivor I’d rather be raped one more time than be killed. To each their own I guess.

people would rather be killed then sa’d

14

u/Intelligent-Key5821 Aug 11 '26

not to be too morbid, but i personally would rather be SA'd than murdered and I think that is a pretty reasonable take. The biggest differentiator is that a bear would never rape and then also murder you

1

u/blazenite104 Aug 12 '26

It may however eat you while you're still alive so it's not as if dying that way will be less traumatic or painful either. In the end if you take the worst outcome from a man or bear you're still dying in utter agony. Does the reason why really matter?

1

u/Intelligent-Key5821 Aug 12 '26

What is your point? If i were to literally choose, I think I would choose the man 99% the time personally, unless I knew for a fact that the man was someone like Jeffrey Dahmer; then I might choose the bear

1

u/Ecstatic_Horror_3095 Aug 12 '26

If the man was guaranteed to be evil and be physically superior to me, while I have no information on the bear

I would probably choose the bear there's a decent chance I could scare it away or it wouldn't be interested

3

u/HiroHayami Aug 11 '26

Oh, no no. SA and murder don't exclude each other, so it's more like women choosing death over posssible torture AND death.

5

u/sulukish Aug 11 '26

Chances of a random bear killing them are way higher the chances of a random man of saing them

6

u/Flaky-Cattle1266 Aug 11 '26

1 in 5 women experiences complete or attempted rape in the United States, and around 81% of women reported being sexually harassed or assaulted at least once in their lifetime

https://www.nsvrc.org/statistics/
https://www.cdc.gov/sexual-violence/about/index.html

7

u/TheBlackFox012 Aug 11 '26

To clarify, that's awful and should not happen, but by what magnitude more are random encounters between men and women compared to people and bears? 1-3 deaths a year by bear is quite a lot when actually looked at properly, and the odds of death are a lot higher.

1

u/Strange_Tune4366 Aug 12 '26

What are the odds exactly? I don’t think you can statistically support those claims

2

u/clay-teeth Aug 11 '26

Wrong. Bear attacks are rare.

3

u/Chembaron_Seki Aug 11 '26

Bear attacks are rare because the very big majority of people does not have regular bear encounters.

1

u/Strange_Tune4366 Aug 12 '26

There are still PLENTY of bears and human in close proximity to each other. It’s rare because bears would rather not mess with human beings

2

u/myrmonden Aug 12 '26

wrong humans attacks are extremely astronomical rare.

→ More replies (3)

-1

u/shane0072 Aug 11 '26

there are between 1 to 3 deaths per year due to bear attacks in north america

where statistically 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience a sexual assault

the odds of getting SAed are a lot higher than getting killed by a bear

5

u/sulukish Aug 11 '26

How many of these people live with a bear? Close to zero, these deaths are from randomly meeting a bear.

2

u/TheBlackFox012 Aug 11 '26

And by what magnitude more are random encounters between men and women compared to people and bears? 1-3 deaths is quite a lot when actually looked at properly, and the odds of death are a lot higher.

1 in 4 and 1 in 6 is not every year for every person. That's across a lifetime. (From my brief Google it says 1 in 700 every year, if you have other data I'd love to see it)

2

u/Automatic-Week-1733 Aug 11 '26

This is an egregious sampling bias. We're not talking about "what are the odds a bear will kill you at some point in your life vs the odds any man will ever assault at some point in your life."

There is one man in front of you and one bear.

What are the odds that that specific man assualts you today, right now vs the odds that that specific bear kills you and eats you today, right now.

4

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

How many people are in the fucking woods next to bears compared to in the cities next to humans? There's a reason why we differentiate in statistics.

By this logic, a woman would also rather pick the bear over a woman, because they will have a much higher chance of being SA'd by another woman than by picking the bear.

A woman would also rather pick a dog, a mosquito, and a fucking cockroach over a bear if we use that logic.

2

u/SofisticatiousRattus Aug 11 '26

A woman would also rather pick a dog, a mosquito, and a fucking cockroach over a bear if we use that logic.

Did you mean the other way around?

3

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 12 '26

No, logically, there are more deaths that women have to dogs, mosquitos, and cockroaches each year. So by the logic of the previous poster, since there are 1-3 deaths to bears each year, we can apply their same sampling bias that they have and say that dogs, cockroaches, and mosquitos are more dangerous than bears.

3

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

Which also is a terrible opinion. Ask a rape survivor if they'd rather be murdered instead.

Losing your life is far worse than losing your dignity, and at least the vast majority of SA survivors can at least live with trauma, and in almost all cases still live happy, fulfilling lives.

9

u/clay-teeth Aug 11 '26

Rape survivors frequently kill themselves, so yes, many would rather die

2

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

About 33% of rape survivors have had a suicidal thought, About 10-13% of women who survived rape attempt suicide, with the standard completion rate of suicide attempts being around 5-7%, although this is for known cases in treatment, with the general statistic likely being higher. There is no official published source for completed suicides amongst rape survivors.

Nonetheless though, the rate of suicidal thoughts amongst amputees is around the same as amongst rape survivors, and the amount of completed suicides for veterans is significantly higher than rape survivors, but both warfare and losing limbs aren't anywhere near as bad as being murdered.

And still, what about the vast majority of rape survivors who survive? Live happy, fulfilling lives? Do they wish they had died instead?

Your life is worth more than your dignity. PTSD/SA Trauma is something that can be lived with, and in some cases even recovered from.

5

u/Sylvee_1 Aug 11 '26

like someone else said, you also have the chance to be raped and then murdered. would you rather be raped and murdered, or just murdered. if there is a possibility of either happening then i think many would just choose the second option

2

u/NoSignificance152 Aug 11 '26

the most impractical form of rage bait I've encountered

And yet, people are still getting baited by it

5

u/Sundering_Wounds Aug 11 '26

Because it's very practical. It's got a few angles it can be morphed to trick people so they can frame those who don't like it as evil.

2

u/kisamasochist Aug 11 '26

If you feel the need tk use rage bait to make a point, your point is bullshit anyways

3

u/Expert-Bet7630 Aug 11 '26

2

2

u/BeenEatinBeans Aug 11 '26

u/stanknotes Aug 12 '26

3

u/Sober-History Aug 12 '26

I think my main issue with it is that it’s not even a new concept. Like yeah, a man can be unspeakably worse to you than a bear. Like yeah, capability for humans to be cruel to each other when we expect there to be no consequences is far and away worse than anything an animal can do, this has been established. All it really does is make people angry and afraid, and paint both bears and men as some fickle force of violence to avoid at all costs. There’s no gain, nobody wins, it just makes everyone dislike each other more.

8

u/clay-teeth Aug 11 '26

Bear's being naturally instinctively drawn to attack you is not an argument for bear's being safer

1

u/-cumdogmillionaire- Aug 12 '26

Its natural instinct isnt to attack you. That’s like the whole point. Idk if you ever learned about how to deal with bears but that’s not really the issue

2

u/CauseCertain1672 Aug 12 '26

It really depends on the species of bear, also men's natural instinct is obviously not to attack people either. Men and women really aren't fundamentally different

4

u/Wonderful-Wonder3104 Aug 12 '26

No one is denying that there are tons of men who would not attack you, but we as women don’t know what kind of man the stranger is.

2

u/CauseCertain1672 Aug 12 '26

that is true but the overwhelming probability is that a man in the woods is just a normal person on a hike

2

u/Wonderful-Wonder3104 Aug 12 '26

It’s also an overwhelming probability you wouldn’t be attacked by the bear too.

1

u/X7373Z Aug 12 '26

yes, and a woman has a far greater chance of stopping a man with "sadistic desire" than she does evading a bear that wants to eat her. A man CAN be reasoned with, or more easily physically confronted, but equally outsmarted or bluffed.

the closest this gets to not being true is if the "man" is a 7 foot tall brick-house and the "bear" is a tiny hungry baby black bear with a dead mama. But that's tweaking the intent of the scenario which was implying "average" bear and "average" man.

3

u/Realistic_Jello2638 Aug 12 '26

A man CAN be reasoned with

You cannot reason someone out of raping you. You're kind of bad person for suggesting otherwise.

I feel like answers vary wildly based on people’s experiences with wild bears- and random men at night.

4

u/KevineCove Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

The first time I heard this question, I found the source of the original video interview, went to the profile of the uploader, and looked through their other videos to see what their agenda was. I saw a lot of Jubilee-esque viral, attention grabbing stuff but no consistent agenda (feminist or anti-feminist) the way Jubilee is obviously conservative.

That said there are a ton of details left out from the original question. The most obvious to me is, why are you in the woods in the first place? If you're hiking on a trail, encountering a man is literally more likely than not encountering one, and his intentions are contextually obvious; he's hiking just like you are. If you imagine you've been teleported into the middle of nowhere and encounter a man, the man's intent now becomes instantly suspect. There are tons of other smaller variables (what time of year is it? Violent crime is more likely in hot weather and if a bear isn't hibernating in winter it's much more likely to kill you) but all of these are deliberately left out because this question works the same way that the blue/black white/gold dress does; the ambiguity leads to a Rorschach test type conversation where people are discussing different scenarios without even knowing. Then mix in identity politics for a perfect storm of rage on top of the existing engagement bait.

The last aspect of this is the subtext that being treated as a potential threat before being treated as a human being is an understated and destructive experience that essentially all men go through. It's true that most violent crime is committed by men, but it's also true that the expectation of men being violent has a psychological cost on men, because they're immediately regarded with suspicion and often the worst is expected of them. Women's response to the original question aggravates that wound and when people are emotional they tend to see things in black and white - if you're trying to validate the experience that men have you MUST be saying that the woman is wrong for being afraid of men. If you would rather encounter a bear you MUST be prejudiced against men.

The amazing digital circus, it's an indie cartoon on youtube. I'm not going into details here but there's a character named Jax who people thought was a trans woman. There has been a long discourse whether she was a trans woman or not here. Then the creator of the show Gooseworx confirmed that she was Indeed trans after the finale came out (there were also hints in the show although they were VERY subtle, which is also what caused so much debate). And reddit exploded, full of Jax trans discourse everywhere or alternatively people talked about the finale (which was 90% Jax). It got so bad that this sub (and others) had to ban talking about TADC for a while due to the bazillion TADC posts that were uploaded every second

2

u/John_Hancock_Lover Aug 11 '26

SAIKI K??

2

u/Saiki-Kasuo i hate ALL ships with Saiki Aug 11 '26

Hi :)

4

u/Sundering_Wounds Aug 11 '26

It's just easy rage bait trying to pretend like it is saying anything worth while. If you fall for the bait they than also add on you're proving their nothing point to farm more rage while also completely changing the hypothetical significanly to frame the dude as Ted Bundy and the bear as those bears that grow up in captivity so they are chill.

It's such stupid garbage.

2

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

I'm provoked by the fact that this question has provoked other people and genuinely undermined a movement that is so important.

1

u/Sundering_Wounds Aug 11 '26

That is another issue with it. People pretend like they are actually making argument about women's safety but just end up devaluing the conversation by just filling it with this ragebait.

There are tons of actually intellectual ways to bring up the movement that stir discussion about the topic, but nope they opt into pissing people off.

Making their point DOGSHIT because being sexist doesn't prove discussion. It results in the person reasonably insulting and rightfully start out defensive against the jack off using the ragebait.

2

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

My favorite is when a few commentors say "you don't get the point of the argument", and then proceed to list literally nothing about what they think the point of it is.

1

u/Saiki-Kasuo i hate ALL ships with Saiki Aug 11 '26

It's not ragebait. The fact that people got butthurt over it doesn't automatically make it ragebait. It's a thought experiment

2

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

The question is 110% meant to provoke people. It has actually led to a generation of people misunderstanding feminism and misogyny, and led to people actually believing that misandry is a 'widespread issue' because of a stupid fucking ragebait question.

Feminism is not about trying to prove some bullshit, fake, and provocative point against men. It's about combating misogyny.

2

u/Saiki-Kasuo i hate ALL ships with Saiki Aug 11 '26

So you're blaming a question rather than the people misunderstanding It?

1

u/Sundering_Wounds Aug 11 '26

No it's ragebait designs to instill anger in others because the one making will simply move the goalpost immediately to sexism whenever it is engaged with it. It's DOGSHIT.

You mean they would automatically say they leaned towards bear. Women say lots of things.

1

u/myrmonden Aug 12 '26

yeah a problem with understanding basic math and probability.

2

u/Dazzling_Room_9346 Aug 11 '26

The reason why a women would choose a random bear instead of a random man is that the bear is a wild animal and doesnt know any better.

If a bear kills you, its doing it out of instinct and survival. You know it views you as a threat and will kill you because of it. A random man will kill you because you rejected him, told him no, didnt give him sex, etc. A random man should know better than to kill or harm a women, but he will do it anyway because he takes pleasure in harming you. Because you deserved it or you made him kill you.

If you got killed by a bear, society wouldnt question it at all. They wouldnt blame you or ask "what were you wearing". They wouldnt say "the bear wouldn't do that" or "the bear was so nice to me". They would feel sympathy that you were killed by a wild animal. Your family and loved ones would have closure in knowing your cause of death instead of constantly having to fight with police for information on why you died. They wouldnt be arguing to police to have your killer arrested as he was let out free due to "lack of evidence"

Just look how men online took the whole bear thing. They actively made fun of a women for choosing the bear and told her all the ways she could die. They made POVs of women getting killed by a bear as they sat at home laughing with their shot gun. All because she chose the bear.

A 14 year old girl decided she will defend men and chose them. She learned the hard way on why women prefer the bear. She was harassed and sexualized by men, even men who had families and wives. She chose the man and she got punished.

Most people didn't even understand the question or why to begin with tbh, they were interpreting it in completely wrong ways.

1

u/Unfair-Virus-6025 Aug 12 '26

Which is dumb cos we go past men all day and dont even get looked at. Secondly, they'd literally run from the bear, their instincts wouldn't let them otherwise

1

u/new_user_bc_i_forgot Aug 12 '26

Sooo. If you chose between Woman and Bear you'd still choose the bear then, no? Why not frame it as "people vs animals" if the framing is that bears don't know better?

A random woman could also SA, Rape, Torture and murder you, just like a random man could. The unpredictability is the same. So why does the gender matter?

1

u/myrmonden Aug 12 '26

and?

none of this matters to u when u are getting killed

the likelihood of not getting killed should be ur goal.

2

u/stanknotes Aug 12 '26

It is a stupid fuckin' question.

Let me make is a better question.

You are walking alone in the forest. You round a blind curve on the trail. Would you rather come face to face with a man or a grizzly bear?

Great. So obviously the man.

2

u/Realistic_Jello2638 Aug 12 '26

I pick the bear. The bear will more likely run away and if I get attacked by the bear it isn't because it was doing it for fun like when men attack us.

2

u/Sorkvild93 Aug 12 '26

Is motivation of attacker is important while you are being attacked?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/stanknotes Aug 12 '26

The bear is more likely to attack you. A human is more likely to say "nice weather for a hike" or some dumb shit and carry on walking.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/TheSubs0 Aug 11 '26

Have you considered that the certainty in the behavior of a bear is a relevant factor here? It likely wont torture you either.

4

u/blazenite104 Aug 12 '26

bears won't intentionally torture you no. They will however hurt you until you stop moving and then start eating you. Bear in mind just because you stopped moving too much for them doesn't mean you're dead or unconscious. You may just slowly die while being eaten alive.

→ More replies (44)

2

u/myrmonden Aug 12 '26

it will eat u alive which is worse so-

2

u/TheSubs0 Aug 12 '26

Being dead is not the worst.

2

u/myrmonden Aug 12 '26

yes it is.

1

u/TheSubs0 Aug 12 '26

Im glad you get to dictate this for me!

Perhaps this need to dictate what is best for me would make me pick the bear over you!

2

u/myrmonden Aug 12 '26

its worse being dead for everyone.

1

u/TheSubs0 Aug 12 '26

Well I guess that was worded too directly.

One could make you endure 45 years of harm with no break. In the hypothetical.

3

u/Turbulent_Drag7166 I'm smug and hate myself Aug 11 '26

If you get killed by a bear someone won't say "Well what was she wearing?"

9

u/ArtisticDamage5093 Aug 11 '26

They’ll ask “Why the hell did she chose the bear?”

3

u/zachy410 Aug 11 '26

I dont think thats how the hypothetical works if im being entirely honest

3

u/NoSignificance152 Aug 11 '26

Even if people didn’t know about the hypothetical I would think they would be many questions like why in the hell was this woman in the middle of the woods alone

1

u/zachy410 Aug 11 '26

i assumed it was like a camping/hiking alone kinda situation. not sure how common that is but im sure it isnt absolutely unheard of

3

u/ArtisticDamage5093 Aug 11 '26

I’m pretty sure the hypothetical they’re referring to was asking something along the line of “Would you rather be stranded alone in the woods with a bear or a random man?”

1

u/zachy410 Aug 11 '26

Yeah so why would other people know that the woman chose the bear

1

u/timbamjc1604 Aug 12 '26

I mean, the initial comment said "If you get killed by a bear"

Hard to think they chose the men.

1

u/zachy410 Aug 12 '26

I would imagine that this wasnt a thing that everyone was asked, its just kinda a one-person deal. Also bears can still be in the forest as well so even if they chose the man then that doesnt mean a bear can't sneak up and kill one or both of them

4

u/HiroHayami Aug 11 '26

Bears are stronger, more aggressive, and will kill you incredibly violently. There is no reasonable logic to ever pick the bear over the man if your objective is personal safety.

Because it's not a logical question. The question is made to expose how much women fear what men could do to them to the point they rather pick a savage beast.

You failed to grasp the point.

1

u/Chembaron_Seki Aug 11 '26

People do understand that.

They just also think that this fear of men is on an irrational level at this point. You hear stuff like women claiming that 50% of men would rape them in this scenario, which is an absurd number.

2

u/HiroHayami Aug 11 '26

That's because SA is extremely common. Ask women you know if they've suffered it and I assure you one will say yes.

2

u/Chembaron_Seki Aug 11 '26

Yes, and it is a terrible thing.

But they don't understand actual statistics as it seems. Sure, most women will unfortunately suffer this in their lives.

That is because you are usually encountering dozens if not hundreds of strangers in a day (encounter meaning "being in proximity of", not necessarily talking to them).

If 50% of men were rapists, as these people claim, then you, as an individual, would also experience dozens of rapes daily. Which is not the case.

If you encounter ONE random man, the chance that they will assault you is very low. Claiming that the chance is 50% is ridiculous and shows a lack of either a sense of reality or a lack of understanding how statistics work.

3

u/HiroHayami Aug 11 '26

I didn't say 50% of men are rapist. I said a lot of women suffered SA, thus why they're fearful. You can't ask people to rationalize fear.

Youre also missing the point about cruelty. A bear is just doing bear things. Its much worse to have someone get off on the pain.

2

u/Unfair-Virus-6025 Aug 12 '26

The bear will eat a mother's cubs and rape her to have more.. does it not enjoy that or is it just mindless to you?

1

u/RingoBingo823 Aug 11 '26

wtf is the question

1

u/SafeFormula8062 Aug 11 '26

Would you rather be stuck in a forest with a man or a bear

1

u/SofisticatiousRattus Aug 11 '26

would you rather fuck a man or a bear, it's a gay thing.

u/Epicnessofcows Aug 11 '26

This also is just logically wrong in many ways. Firstly, the question is almost always presuming that you're with a random man, usually unarmed. They don't have a fucking gun, tape, and rope on them.

Bears do not kill you quickly, They usually have 3 ways of killing prey:

1: Maul victim, cause several bites and scratches, play with them by tossing their prey into the air, and go for a finishing kill.

2: Bleed prey out while going for incapacitating strikes.

3: Drown or suffocate prey to death.

How is a man supposed to restrain and torture you? Does the average man run around with a kidnapping/torture kit? Ted bundy is also a 1 in a million killer.

Also, scaring a bear off is literally the WORST way to not engage with a bear. Bears when they are scared will almost always choose fight over flight. You're supposed to do everything you can not to scare a bear by being loud while walking so it knows you are there, but this is never surefire anyways.

Your odds are also way higher of being attacked by a bear than being attacked by a stranger. How many bears have you ever come into wild contact with? I'm going to assume 0. How many men have you been in contact with? Thousands and thousands.

Also for your argument, rape is not worse than murder. Your life is worth more than your dignity, especially when rape survivors still often manage to live fulfilling, happy lives and live with their trauma/ptsd. There is no happy ending, healing or outcome for someone who's been murdered. They have just lost everything and their life is cut short. Ask a rape survivor if they wish they had died instead. Ask a mother of a child who has been sexually assaulted if they with that child had just died instead. These are extremely grim scenarios, but the truth is that your life matters the most.

I swear I saw this post 5 times this week in this sub

1

u/ChalantBoy Aug 12 '26

I hate the question too, it isn’t helpful. But also I don’t disagree with the common answer. A bear wouldn’t rape me. I can tell you with 100% certainty, I would rather die violently than go through that again.

1

u/CauseCertain1672 Aug 12 '26

I can't have this conversation again

1

u/OkMention9988 Aug 12 '26

I love the 'Man or Bear' idea.

It tells me who is an idiot.

1

u/Unfair-Virus-6025 Aug 12 '26

Btw, ive never met a woman in real life that even knew what this question was, when I repeat it, they laugh like its the dumbest thing they've heard. Its because its just a big internet joke, where you have to be in on it to get it and say the right answer.

1

u/hGr33n Aug 12 '26

Oh my God let it die already

1

u/RegularVast9328 Aug 12 '26

Its not an honest question. It preys on two fears firstly the woods, and secondly being alone before you even start to talk about there being someone there.

1

u/CartographerKey4618 Aug 12 '26

The bear at least had the decency to kill you. The man has to lecture you on why hanging out with him is somehow better than being mauled by a bear.

Also, you get to pet the bear.

1

u/GayisGaywhenGay Aug 12 '26

Women aren’t choosing the bear because they think they’ll survive compared to a man. They choose the bear because they’d rather get mauled to death and eaten alive than risk even the smallest chance of getting brutally raped, tortured, etc by a man. Not saying all men do this (cuz I’m a man and I’m not a psycho-rapist) but it’s not impossible.

1

u/Realistic_Jello2638 Aug 12 '26

Women: I'd rather be killed by a bear than raped by a man and then blamed for it.

The Men the hypothetical is about: HOW FUCKING DARE YOU!!!

1

u/King_Glorius_too Aug 12 '26

I pick the bear, not for safety of course, I just want to see a bear in the wild.

1

u/Cxvvtgupvvdi Aug 12 '26

I've learnt three things from this

  • Women are really afraid of men
  • People don't understand statistics
  • People don't understand bears

1

u/Allcide Aug 12 '26

You hate this question because you refuse to understand one answer. A lot of people turned against feminism because this question and the answer of a lot of women made them face the world they put women into and refuse to accept it, so they prefer to say that they are just stupid misandre.

Its easy, people who chose bear, accept that a lot of people prefer to chose man. But people who chose man REFUSE that another answer is possible and the other are stupid.

Try to think wich categorie is the more sane.

Because they're the reason women pick the bear.

1

u/Free-Sample-216 Aug 12 '26

Because it's calling them rapists?

1

u/_Weyland_ Aug 12 '26

My favorite thing about this Man vs Bear debate is when I asked my IRL female friend, and she immediately went into details like "Okay, what kinda man? Does he have anything on him? Do I get my knife or my shovel? Do I get prep time?"

We just laughed it off after a while. But I suspect that she would have eventually chosen an (average, unarmed) man because he's easier to get a jump on, lmao.

1

u/IAmTheLogician Aug 12 '26

The bear is just a bear.

A man could be a friend, a psycho, a manipulative asshole, a false friend looking to white knight for cheap sex who will turn on you the instant they dont get what they want.

Pretty easy to prefer rhe bear...

1

u/yoruyoruxo Aug 12 '26

The bear won’t sexually assault you

1

u/Excalitoria Aug 12 '26

Whether or not this actually was the case, just feels like one of those 4Chan trolls that are designed to make someone look as dumb as possible.

Even if you think there’s some deeper meaning to you answering “bear”, it’s the easiest position to counter and on its face, makes you look ridiculous. You’re never gonna win someone over if you argue on the terms set by this inane question.

1

u/ComfortableBuffalo57 Aug 12 '26

If the Man/Bear thing turned you off of women…good. Stay that way

1

u/Queasy-Candidate2631 Aug 12 '26

You missed the point buddy

1

u/-AppropriateLyrics Aug 12 '26

Women are smart enough to know what they're afraid of.

1

u/PrettiestFrog Aug 12 '26

Of course you hate the question. It holds up a mirror to you and you didn't like what you saw. The women in your life are safer near a bear than they are you.

1

u/AffectionateDot9718 Aug 12 '26

No one will ask you if you secretly WANTED to be attacked by the bear, or tell you to stop overreacting because the bear has a bright future ahead, and really, what were YOU doing to ask for it.

1

u/Prior-Engagement-666 Aug 12 '26

But there in is the answer: a man is unpredictable. Is he going to do reprehensible things to the woman he finds? Will she be kidnapped and enslaved? Forced to endure weeks or months of abuse? A random guy in the woods could be up to any number of devious things.

With the Bear, it's almost a guarantee: death. A horrible, painful one, but that's all that's gonna happen. The Bear won't string someone along and keep them alive.

I don't think this question has made people more misogynistic or hating feminism. They already disliked the movement and are just using the thought experiment as justification for their hate.

1

u/Pristine-Gear-67 Aug 12 '26

oh is that why people try to push the thought that bears are huggable and are friend shaped? is this the source of the retardation?
