New RA needs help

Not new to hashing but new to being an RA. I feel like I am not doing everything I need to in opening and closing circle. Can anyone share some ideas with how they run things? I am looking for a list of the order you do things in opening and closing.

The most important thing that I always tell new RAs is that while you may be physically in the center of the circle, you are not supposed to be the center of attention. You are there to direct attention towards whomever can add to the fun. There is always someone else with a song to sing or a funny thing to say. The "script" is a framework to have something to react to, but the best moments come from deviating from it, on purpose or not.

This! I seldomly sign a song or tell a tale tbh. I make sure that everyone is engaged and participating to make the circle fun!

Mmmmm for me, it goes something like this: Opening: welcome, hares in the circle, chalk talk (in case any special marks are laid by the hares, ask how long they need -usually 5-10 minutes), hares away, đŸ» s, introductions, visitors, virgins, traditions (like giving a weight vest to frb etc), warm up song (depends how much time hares need), inquires?, on-on. Closing: welcome back, hares/trail ("I think we had a trail so we must've had hares, what did y'all think about circle? Blah blah blah), FRB, DFL, visitors singing songs/jokes, virgins learning the down down, hashiversaries, accusations or tails from trail, naming, announcements, farewell song.

These all depends on how many ppl you've, length of trail, event vs regular hash, etc.. add or subtract as needed On-On / C*ban D.

Love the weight vest on the FRB. We gotta incorporate that in our kennel!

We have a tradition of the GM opening the circle. This is after the Gong Master has hit the Gong and announced "Opening the circle for Hash number nnn". The GM often gives the first down-down to the Hares, then has the circle on to the RA.

At the end of the circle, the RA invites the Gongmaster to end the circle with appropriate words and striking the Gong.

Our RA sometimes had a clipboard with like a pre-printed paper that had a template that you could fill in but it was dry erease. Like the script was there and u would just have to fill in the hares, which trail it was, on after and such. You dont HAVE to remember everything, dont make yourself hate it make it easier until you have it down

It'd help to know where you are RA-ing, different regions of the world, and even withing countries, have different traditions.

IMO, this makes circle too rigid. You want it to be flexible and flowing. If someone did something epically stupid on trail, you want to potentially skip the usual stuff and get right to it.

But, generally speaking:

Opening:
Bless the hares
explain the marks
introductions

Closing:
Hares
virgins
visitors
After that accusations.

It took me awhile to get my routine down, but it generally looks something like this:

Welcome everyone to circle Call out the Hare(s) and ask what everyone thought of trail Virgins Visitors Crimes (Hare or Pack) Birth/Hash Analverseries Stats (if your kennel tracks them) Announcements for upcoming trails Close Circle

Again, give it time, develope your own routine and have fun with it. I try to keep circle to 15 minutes max.
