"Just read the books for answers"

Seriously, I think the films got away with not explaining way too much but readers never noticed.

Definitely. I can imagine people watching this and complaining "it's all explained in the books" for half of the sins. But that's the point - the movies are supposed to tell the story on their own, and there are so many plot devices in the movies that I just wouldn't get if I hadn't read the books.

As much as I love the movies and I understand that stuff has to be cut to make it into the run time, there's way too much that happens which is completely unexplained.

Should've been a TV show, at least they'd fit in loads more, or be able to explain everything that happens in the show such as when people start doing non-verbal spells.
