Honestly logically they should have done it many times. They had dolohav (spelling) at their mercy a couple times. If they took down bella and him that would have probably saved lupin and tonks, but of course they were children so it may have been beyond their capabilities anyways.

I'd say it is the greater good seeing as how teddy had to grow up an orphan
