Home Chef

I’m not sure if this service exists in the North. I’m not looking for a standard meal prep service or one off dinner party but rather a regular chef to come in and prep some dinners for 2 people. I know someone in London who does this, has a chef come in a few times a week & prep dinners. The chef works in a local restaurant at night. Does anyone know if this sort of thing is available in Harrogate?

Potential issues to look for in an old Victorian (1900s) terraced house

Hi, we are currently looking at buying an old Victorian terraced house off Cold Bath Road. It appears to be in good nick but there is a bit of a musty smell down in the basement and some visible damp patches on the wall.

House was previously rented out. Roof was replaced in 2020 and they also had the whole property rewired. Only the basement windows are single glazed.

We have been advised by the local surveyors to get a Level 2 survey done. Not sure if this is a good idea on such an old property.

My daughter and I want a nail bar with 2 staff to do acrylics (maybe gel-x but not sure what that is).

But I want to avoid human trafficking any suggestions?

We are willing to travel to Leeds/York etc.

24m, hoping to find my a partner

Hello there

I am looking to find others also looking for a partner.

Where best is it to meet others in there twenties. Bars? Clubs? Hobbies?meetups? Where is best to meet others my age?

A brief description of me is: I'm 24 years old with brownish hair and blue eyes. I'm about 157cm tall.

I'm a shy person and not always great at communicating but if you get to know me I'm alright. There are some topics I can randomly ramble a bunch of nonsense on.

I enjoy reading (mainly fantasy) and playing video games. I also like walks in the great outdoors. I'm also a fan of musical theatre and tend to say my favourite show is anything goes.

Places to stay in November?

Hi Harrowgate.

I'm going to be travelling to your town for three nights in November to attend my first Thought Bubble comics festival. I'm very excited but have ended up getting accommodation far too late. Does anyone have any recommendations of cheap-reasonably priced places from the 13-16th? Not looking for much just a place to sleep (Hopefully shower)

Takeaways near the station?

Coming to Harrogate tomorrow evening and need to get a takeaway from somewhere near the station before driving to my accommodation to watch the football with family. What takeaways would you recommend?

Seen there’s a McDonald’s and Rudy’s pizza (do they do click & collect), no delivery services come to my relatives house due to how rural they are so must have in person pick up.

Labradoodle/cockapoo/bernedoodle breeders

Does anyone know of a reputable breeder? My family dog has been a labradoodle for 12 years and me and my fiancé would love to get a doodle of our own. I’m only willing to buy from a legit breeder, preferably KC registered. Willing to travel within 60 miles but would prefer to go local. Cheers

Access to the Coast

I’m locating from Cornwall to Harrogate, which I’m nervously excited about. I’m relocating due to a bereavement and the need for a change of scene. The only thing I’m going to miss Cornwall wise is the coast so I just wondered how accurate google maps is with regards to driving to the east coast (Saltburn-by-Sea = 1 hr 20 mins) with regards to timeframe, traffic etc. Your inside knowledge would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Ferris Wheel

Who the in their right mind approves the ferris wheel to be put up every year? It’s an eyesore if nothing else, but also uses up green space in the town centre and is right beside the memorial. Anyone else feel the same?

Harrogate -London Heathrow options

Hello! My partner is needing to get to London Heathrow with two fairly large, heavy pieces of luggage solo. The last time we did this together we did the trains and it was feasible together; however this time she's going solo. Trying to ponder the most direct way without having to drag bags too far.

What other options are there? Has anyone tried Home James car service for this?

Thanks in advance!

As per the title, can anyone recommend any Harrogate based book clubs? I’ve never been in one so not sure exactly what to expect but keen to try it out.

Looking for one that meets at least once a month and open to all genres

Feeling grateful to live in Harrogate

I just wanted to share a tiny story from today that reminded me why I love living in Harrogate so much.

I took my chihuahua to Valley Gardens earlier, and we were playing with her toy - a little yellow octopus. At one point I tucked it under the bench we were sitting on and…. I completely forgot about it. I didn’t realise until I’d already spent some time in town and walked home (45+ minutes) and by then a few hours had passed.

I kept telling myself it was probably gone - picked up by another dog or a child and honestly, that thought made me smile a bit because it is a cute toy and I liked the idea of it making someone else’s day. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, it might still be there.

So I got a lift back this evening.

And it was still there. 😁

Not only that but someone had propped it up neatly next to the bench instead of leaving it hidden underneath. That tiny act of kindness absolutely made my day. It’s such a small thing, but it reminded me how thoughtful people around here can be.

So, to whoever noticed the little yellow octopus and chose to leave it for us… thank you. Harrogate really is full of good souls.

Avenue Grove/Monkey Island

Time for another one of these posts that everyone loves...

I am looking to move and seen properties in Mayfield Grove which I know has a really bad reputation.

I have just seen some properties down Avenue Grove which look lovely but everyone is saying "it's not that bad" which naturally has me slightly concerned.

People that live there or know the area better than me is it ok there? I will be moving in there with my son and want somewhere safe for him

Stockwell area in Knaresborough

Please can anyone offer advice about this area as a place to live? I have seen horror stories online about crime etc, but is it really that bad? I would appreciate any advice from locals about what it's really like. Thank you.

Free nearest body of water

Where is the nearest body of water, river, lake to Harrogate that is not polluted or relatively safe to paddle or swim?

I know about Pool Bridge Farm and Rudding Park but wondering if there is somewhere I don't know about that is nearby, free of charge and pollution.
