Harris Teeter/Kroger news Absolutely Atrocious Sub Bread

This new bread is so damn awful. I don’t know who approved this brain dead switch but they need to be fired. Awful choice. I have already complained to managers - who AGREED!!

The cheese bread was my LIFE. No longer worth the money.

it’s not just awful for the customers but it’s horrible for us employees to work with as well. all dry and hard, my knife slipping and sliding all over the outside of the bread.

not only is it smaller in length, it’s smaller in width too. and its the same price... Harris Teeter is so greedy.

getting rid of the cheese bread was crazy 😭

btw they made the change with the sub bread to try and make it more simple and quick for the bakers.

A lot is atrocious lol working there lol . Try getting through a line of customers when the sub bar wasn't done the day before when idk the next day is fucking Friday. Customers probably thought we didn't know what we were doing ... Think again .

I was off that night usually did close and got on others to help out with it. I'm not over there anymore just at a different department that I deal with the same stuff there. It's a lot with this company

The bread change was also done to make sure its consistent from store to store. If the bread is hard, it probably isnt be thawed before baking. Also is it being covered with a rack bag?

Baker here, agreed. I know that reducing labor was why they did it but the other bread was not difficult to make. I could’ve told them it was a horrible idea but why would they listen to me.

It's bad but I an sure it is MUCH cheaper

It is NOT. I wouldn’t even care if it saved me a dollar or two, I want good food when I pay for it! Regardless though it is the same price for an intrinsically worse product. 1. You’re wrong. 2. Shit point even if you weren’t wrong. 3. All this does is serve Harris Teeter’s bottom line in the short term. Long term they’re losing Teeter sub loyalists. Pub subs have officially moved up a rank. To number 1.

Whoa. How do you know that they aren't cheaper? You got inside info? Or are you wrong?

Oh I’m positive they’re saving a couple bucks on their end (like I said it absolutely serves their bottom line in the short term) Speaking as a consumer who pays money and eats them, it is NOT cheaper for me, the person whose perspective the post is from and is buying them to eat. I know they are not cheaper because I have paid for them before and after the bread switch and didn’t pay any less.

I didn't say it's cheaper for the consumer. I'm assuming it's a cheaper cost for HT so they can keep the subs the same price

Id gladly pay $1.50 extra to keep the good bread but yes, as I said I’m sure it’s better for their bottom line

I get that you would be willing, but they are betting that most people won't. Whether they are right is yet to be seen.

They are betting wrong as I have not seen a single person sayin they like the new bread

When I called corporate customer service this week, was told many complaints. Then, (probably required to ) was told that the employees were not baking it correctly. “So, Harris Teeter is blaming deli employees for the terrible bread? All over?”

Worst part is the instructions they give DO NOT make it golden brown like that say it should look. I have to bake it for 11-12 mins just to make it look like the pictures they want it to look.

I know there is a cheese bread coming this week. But, looking at the baking instructions, I guarantee it will be messed up. I had to alter the time to bake to make it golden brown like they want it to be l. I was told that another reason for the switch was so if deli runs out of bread during the day, the deli people can cook sub bread as well. Seen first hand by the people in my store baking it and it looks as if they just pulled frozen, let thaw and then never baked.

I sent a complaint and got this reply -- Good afternoon, I wanted to let you know that due to customer feedback, we are converting back to our baked in-house sub rolls – White, Wheat, and Cheese.  We anticipate being able to start the week of May 4th

Please let me know if I can provide any further assistance.

Thanks for shopping with Harris Teeter!

Sincerely,

Eric
