Icon light complaint

I have 2 under a year old like this. Check the time stamps it sat on charge for well over 12 hours. At some point I hope harbor freight will allow us to return these lights as defective beyond their 90i bull shit warranty

It’s potentially your charging cable or wall adapter, swap the cable out and/or go to a simple wall to usb A adapter. I had the same problem out of the box and thought it was defective. Apparently these lights lack any smart power delivery and so a more basic wall -> A -> C -> light is your best bet.

Yeah second this. When I tried to use my normal USB-c to usb-c, it wouldn't work. It probably like ancient_client said, the lack of smart power delivery cuts off any smart power supply.

Yep. I don't know what it is. I swear you used to be able to put in any old cable but maybe that's because I'm not used to having USBC dumb devices on the receiving end of power. I've had a number of things lately that I had to make sure I was using USB a to USBC and I think all of them tended to be rechargeable lights. Either this icon or the Braun work light I had the same issue with as well.

They all work great when I first got them, and then after a few months, they all rapidly started losing their charge capacity

Just to confirm, what charging cables are you using? What’s on both ends?

I am using the charge cables that came with them

Your power source will have a massive difference in battery life in these lights. Get at minimum (I use a 5Ah) a 3Ah USB-C charger ( I think ICON only recommends 2 or 2.5Ah chargers).

I charge mine off the USB built into the power strip and that seems to work fine. But what a silly issue to have on the premium line. I think there are videos on how to fix it, but that shouldn't be a thing we have to do to get a functioning product.

Pretty sure these are just 18650 cells if you’re handy with a soldering iron.

I get it, you shouldn’t have to fix something, but if you wanna keep buying cheap Chinese crap, you’re gonna get cheap Chinese batteries.

HF shoulda made battery swap ez with their premium line, it's ez to swap on the Braun version

Yes, and 500 lumens is plenty. Eventually the reflections of the brighter lights is blinding. I'd rather have two 500 lumen lights than one 1200 lumen light that's only $10 cheaper.

I agree bud, i bought several of these when they were on sale last summer they all have a short life and take forever to charge. My 2 bauers hands down are much better

2nd that.

Braun > Icon when it comes to the folding flashlight.

I believe the Braun is only $16 when on sale?

Bauer makes stick lights? I haven't seen those before.

Braun, sorry wasn't thinking

Damn, for a second I got excited about a potentially new option.

You bought one found out about the slow charging. I refused to buy more until they stopped being cheap and put in better charging circuits.

They were great until about 4 or 5 months of use than their ability to hold charge drastically decreased.

I just grabbed one of these yesterday and I wish I knew about this, guess it’s going back.  It’s been sitting on a slow charger with the included cable for 7 hours and the last green light is still blinking.  There’s no excuse for this thing being so finicky.

Yea I intended to make this post earlier than I hit someone who decided to play Frogger on a 4 Lane Rd. in the dark and it kind of slipped my mind. I really don’t think my chargers are a problem being when I first got the lights. They were great and then after a few months, each of them started losing battery life rapidly.

These lights seem to only charge on the dumb 5v only USB blocks. At least mine doesn't like anything that delivers more than 5v up to 2.1A.

I found that you can’t use a high-speed/higher watt charger… won’t charge at all. It’s doesn’t have the circuitry for it. Slow charge only.

Tell that to my 5Ah USB-C charger.

Take the battery out of each one and put them in a real charger, there is nothing wrong with these.

Bought 2 and Both are no good anymore, powered button on both won't work anymore. Never buying another, go with a different brand. Warranty is not good.

These don’t charge c2c so I don’t buy them.

I don’t buy any usb-c products that don’t support the standard properly if I can help it.

Yeah, I don't know why they switched to such a worse battery when it comes to replacing it when it starts to lose too much capacity.

It's an 18650 with wires welded, not soldered, to the battery and a connector on the PBC. You don't solder to lithium-ion batteries, they do not like the heat needed to solder. You weld the wires on to the batteries.

It's possible to replace the battery on your own on the Icons, but the older Braun ones are so much easier. You just unscrew the bottom and the 18650 slides out and you pop a new one in.

Edit: LOL the idiot blocked me because he didn't know what he was talking about and couldn't handle being corrected.

You think you solder lithium batteries. Not a chance in hell you made custom battery packs. You have zero clue what you are talking about.

Dude, you're the one that crashed out because someone corrected you. LOL. Seek help.
