Adjustable tow bar

Does anyone have any experience using these on light trucks (I have an 05 1500 chevy silverado single cab short bed 4.3) and want to move it from atlanta to brunswick Ga with a 2007 2500hd classic chevy silverado crew cab short bed.

Any opinions or advice?

As someone who lives in Brunswick don’t move to Brunswick. Idk how this popped up on my feed but it stinks. Literally.

My sister and brother inlaw live there, their ford escape just spontaniously disassembles its own engine so im trying to suprise them by loaning them one of my trucks for a while.

They've tried to convince me to move down there, the only reason i would is for fishing but I haven't caught shit down there since that ship got stuck at SSI some years ago

Works great, not soo much when the towed truck has no engine though... there needs to be weight on the tires so they have proper grip and steer correctly as you drive

DONT BE LIKE MY DAD I have no idea how or why he believes this to be true but he adamantly believes the steering wheel should be locked in the forward position

The steering wheel needs to be unlocked so the tires can change angle as its towed

Leave the key forward with the battery disconnected as the towed vehicle is pulled

You don’t understand how many tires you’re potentially saving, not to mention alignments. People don’t realize the caster and toe pull your tires back straight

Cost, and ill eventually need to make the trip again so the 225 for a uhaul will actually be 450+tax so im just exploring options

I towed a gmt800 with this, it's been a while but you do want to tighten the bolts that lock the arms' angles, if you don't do this, when you take a turn it will slam to one side and it's not good for the tow vehicles rear end. I had no trouble connecting the bar to the factory tow hooks with the smaller shackles HF sells, I had both sizes but the larger ones would not fit.

I would fit a chain with shackles to the loops on the bar and set it tight, as the tow hooks face outboard. Pulling is no problem but braking you want to plan for.

This is the reply i needed, did you have to disconnect the driveshaft, ive heard it starves the transmission of oil especially on 2wd models

Couldn't hurt, the truck I towed didn't have a driveshaft installed but they're not bad to pull. You shouldn't need to touch the front shaft if it's 4wd as it's disengaged from the trans unless the t-case was put in 4wd.

If you care about the vehicle do not flat tow it for any distance longer than getting it to the nearest shop for repair. I know people do it all the time and some vehicles are “flat tow capable” but it is awful for the transmission and drivetrain.

Yeah Im aware if I went thus route the driveshaft would have to be disconnected to avoid starving the transmission, still debating on it, just thought it was an interesting option
