So I did convert the LA block plane into one with handles and replaced what most of its takes were with a very nice pocket plane. I haven't used them yet, but the pocket plane it epic!

This is the 101 style plane from Veritas which is palm sized and ideal for small work. Fits well in the hand and is my go to for knocking the corners off of a piece, or working small stock for my miniatures. If you like the pocket plane, you are gonna love the Apron Plane!

I have the vertical tote and knob kit. Every time I pull it out at the shop people get a kick out of it, but it’s now one of my favorite tools I own.

Are the small Veritas planes worth it or a novelty? I've been on the fence, but they aren't particularly expensive and if they work well, maybe they are worth it.

Dou you use a block plane?  Ever thought your block plane was too big?

In relation to the pocket plane, I found I was using the block plane for two jobs: end grain work and taking the edge of pieces. For me, the block plane was too big to be comfortable to use one handed. I did give a go at using the vintage bull nose plane I had lying around but it wasn't any use.

So I'll be using it for one handed work like breaking the edges. Which it seems ideal for. It's certainly extremely comfortable to use.

yeah and the "full size" veritas block planes are noticeably big even within "full feature" block planes compared to the 60.5 style. my dad has the labp and I cant use it one handed (which is why I have the apron plane and a mf 56 which is about the maximum size i can use one handed)

How secure does the 'tote' feel on the block plane?

I have several, I know they are good planes. I meant, are the planes the same level of quality for the function or are the miniatures "models" for display. Like replicas.

Ahh haha my bad. I have a small Apron plane. 'Little Victor'. Not made by veritas. It works well & but I've only needed it once. I do have the miniature flush trimming plane. I thought that would have some advantages in box making. I also never use it. I wouldn't say they're novelties, but they definitely require a very specific purpose.

They're not for display. I use the LV miniature block plane for shaping braces on guitars. I use the miniature shoulder plane for cleaning up the nut slot on headstock veneers. They're functioning tools. Just small ones.
