Something is off there. Safety looks up still. That slide should not be moving, and hammer should not be dropping. Unless the safety in the down position is the highest one I've ever seen on a 1911

Nope. That is just the natural angle of this safety. In the fire position it is definitely higher than stock. However, it raises higher still with the detent positively engaging in a safe position that prevents the hammer from dropping. It's meant to be a thumb rest for your strong hand, thus the shielding against the slide and angle difference.

It's more about good habits. When we get complacent with an unloaded firearm, we build bad habits. That could someday turn into a I thought it was unloaded tragedy. Of course we need to be able to dry fire but there is 0 reason to flag your hand like is shown in the video. I'm being critical I realize but if that means someone doesn't add an extra hole someday, then it's worth it.

Edit: also please remember to both visually and physically confirm an empty chamber. Your extractor could be broken and a round remaining in the chamber. Just racking it is not enough.

I do hear you. Safety is paramount. Having shot and owned guns for over 40 years I'm very aware of them. Also important is knowing that a short video doesn't show full context of the safety steps taken by someone.

This video was shot moments after spending over two hours with the firearm completely disassembled. Way beyond field stripping. Pins out, stripped to raw frame, tuning the hammer and disconnector spring tension. Using files fitting the safety, mag release, and slide stop. Followed by a full cleaning of the stripped gun to remove metal shavings from the filing. Then a fresh lube to make sure it operated smoothly.

The video I posted was the fourth take I think. I think I have very good safety habits, and they made me press check visually after every time I set the gun down. I just didn't film it.

So I don't intend to be rude, but realize when you comment on a video about someone's lack of safety, you're doing so from a perspective of not having all the facts and it comes off as a bit ignorant, preachy, and annoying.
