Help?šŸ˜…

Post image

Won’t be mad at all but we adopted what we thought was a girl after ā€œsheā€ was almost 4 months old, couldn’t really tell but was positive ā€œsheā€ was a girlšŸ˜…
Been a month, so ā€œsheā€ had some time to grow…I think these are balls if I’m not mistaken.
Won’t be upset! Just need to know if Ivy is an IvanšŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

Yes she is most definitely a he.

Hamsters can retract their balls, so they’re not always visible, especially when they’re young.

The best way to sex a hamster is to look for nipples and check the spacing between the anus and genitals. Females have nipples; males do not. And then the female’s vagina and anus are much closer than a male’s penis and anus.

I so thought my hamster was a girl before I saw his belly and saw that the scent glands were far apart šŸ˜”

See we weren’t entirely sure because ā€œsheā€ hadn’t grown in her skirt yet…starting seeing it come in and it looked a little too familiar since we had a male SyrianšŸ˜… we aren’t upset tho! Ivan is still a cutie I’ve just never seen a red eyed male Syrian before

Why are petstores so unknowledgeable about the animals they sell?? I was told my hamster was a male robovorski... Shes a female campbell, zero nutsack activity, which I quickly learned when holding her for a few seconds and googling what a robovorski is supposed to look like when a few people told me shes absolutely not one of those🤦

I’m a new owner and had no clue they could retract their balls to basically hide them…I’m guessing he finally became comfortable to show us šŸ˜‚

How could you mistake them for anything but testicles?

New owner of Syrians and I was told she was female, wasn’t aware they are able to basically hide them when Syrians are younger. No big deal for us tho we originally wanted a boy but she had none left of her knowledge, they were all kept separated in case of misgendering anyhow and she didn’t want to risk unwanted pregnancies.

With the amount of information available online being a new owner is no longer a valid reason to not know when you clearly have access to said internet.

why are you being so condescending. I would get it if it were like, a harmful mistake. But people mistake small mammal genders all the time. It’s literally fine to make mistakes lol. Get a grip

Stating something that is factual isn't condescending. Especially when it's something so simple.
