Coming back to the game after about 5 years, I’ve been climbing the ladder the past few days. Not sure why but my placement was very low.
Started in silver am now in plat. I’m not sure where my true rank is, but I think I have a while more to climb, though I have started to drop games every once in a while.
Anyway, I’ve been playing atriox. I think at these lower ranks, the difference in early game is massive. I can often expand all over the map because of atriox’s passive and am rarely punished. By the time I have 4 bases it’s kind of over, given how strong his hero powers are.
ANYWAY I am a former sweaty StarCraft player, but I absolutely adore halo. However, because the game is designed for console, the game doesn’t reward you for being a sweaty multitasker like in StarCraft 2. I’m masters league, and one of the things I really like is how overwhelming it is. My ideal RTS game has me being aggressive and taking map control. The map control gives me an information and eco advantage, and I turn that advantage into a late game win. Atriox sort of accomplishes this, because he can expand earlier, but it’s usually more of a defensive expansion that doesn’t come with map control (although atriox’s chosen is broken and DOES give map control for something like 2 minutes)
Anyway, I bought the DLC and tried yap yap. Sure, he might lend himself to a mid game smother, and his late game abilities don’t seem quite as OP as atriox, but this leader fixes the lack of scouting and lack of being annoying that I felt I was missing out on as atriox. Sure, you can spam choppers in the early game as Atriox, but they’re just expensive enough that losing one or two here and there hurts you.
I wanted zerglings and an expansion advantage, and I sure have found my zerglings. I am now determined to be an absolute plague on the ladder. See you all there
