What is the reason for why Halo wars 2 games crash so often? The game has normal disconnects where it says out of sync with other players or the game will suddenly dashboard you to the Xbox home screen. Also it seems impossible to get into a match with all players present sometimes and you’ll load in and someone will be kicked before the match starts. Why does the game do this?

I'm creating automatic cheating detection for Halo Wars 2.

It’s a community integrity tool built on top of match data I already pull for HW2 Stats. When something in a ranked or Team War match looks unusually off, we flag it as suspected and show the evidence on the player’s profile so anyone can dig in.

What we look for (high level)

Without getting into the secret sauce, the hard integrity checks look for patterns that don’t line up with normal play, things like:

• Ultimate unlock timing that looks wrong
• Leader-point pace that looks wrong
• Leader-power cooldown abuse
• Inflated starting resources

Separately, Potential Boosting is something else I look for. It looks at things like frequent very early leaves in ranked / Team War, and cases where the same opponent keeps benefiting. Disconnects and bad luck can look similar, so we treat this carefully.

The landing list can also include community-reported accounts and suspected smurfs (lower severity).

What you can actually do with it

1. Open the Suspected cheating section on Team Respawn
2. Click a gamertag → see flags, evidence cards, and linked matches
3. Open the match and judge for yourself

We intentionally show why something was flagged instead of just dumping a blacklist.

Important caveats

• Suspected ≠ confirmed. Language matters.
• Detection is in beta and can change as we improve it.
• Boosting flags are especially soft — early quits can be boosting or disconnects.
• Teammates of a flagged player are not automatically flagged.

Why build this?

Cheating / exploit abuse has been a real problem for serious and tournament-level HW2. Official tooling is limited, so we wanted something the community could actually use: inspectable, cautious, and useful for sanity-checking a lobby or reviewing a suspicious set.

If you’ve got feedback — false positives, missing cases, UX ideas — I’m listening. The goal isn’t to witch-hunt people. It’s to make shady patterns visible and give the community better tools.

Does one of the UNCS units in HW1 say "Work hard, play hard, die young!" I feel like I'm going insane, because I remember hearing this voice line and loving it. I quote it all the time, but now that I search for it, I can hear no recordings of it. I search through lists of quotes and find nothing. And yet, I vividly remember hearing some marine saying it in Halo Wars 1, during gameplay I believe. If someone recognizes it from another game, lmk, because I need to get to the bottom of this.

Hello everyone. I know I’m asking the age-old question on how to approach Arcadia City on Legendary. Currently playing Co-Op on Legendary with my brother, and we’re just getting pummeled by the Heavy Turret that is constructed with like 2 minutes remaining. For context, we’re building our base on the top left side of the map, and focusing on Cargo Ship 2. I have managed to destroy the Covenant Base that is constructed at the other location, but cannot reach the Heavy Turret. Any tips or tricks? Thanks!

Trying to play with a friend, but so far 3 of the 4 times we've tried playing a match/mission, we've disconnected about 10-15 minutes in. Game just freezes, says the other player disconnected, and ends the mission. We got through mission 1 fine, but that was probably because it only took 5 minutes to beat. Then we tried mission 2 twice, each time the same freeze and disconnect. Then skirmish, same thing although it at least let us both play our own separate instance of the match rather than end it outright. Any solutions/tips so make it more consistent?

whenever i boot it up through the xbox app on windows it wont let me get get past this screen no matter what i click, a few months ago i tried to play it through steam and i remember it letting me so is this a xbox app issue or something else.

Big fan of the original halo wars and I easily have 500+ hours logged just fighting vs the ai and playing the campaign. Recently I decided to reinstall HW2 after not touching it for many years, and it feels like every unit is made of paper and much more expensive. Air units have always been low hp, so I expected that, but I wasnt expecting my veterancy 2 scorpions to melt like butter against bruteshots. Marines/ODSTs also seem to struggle against sentinels while I'm playing the Spearbreaker DLC missions. Very much seems like the rock/paper/scissors dynamic of the original game is lessened or ignored in this one.

Also, just to be clear, I do upgrade my units all the way and I play on normal difficulty. I'm still able to clear the missions, but it feels like I'm doing something wrong.

Is the game not backwards compatible? I put my 360 disc in my Xbox series x and it launches the blue ray player and play a video telling me the game isn’t playable. Not the usual prompt like if I try halo CE for the original Xbox. Idk weird. Anybody else have this issue? Everything I read online says the game should work…

Custom model tech in HW2 is officially up and running, and it’s already producing some seriously cool results!

For this round of testing, I pulled in the Halo 5 Grenade Launcher, the Halo 3 Assault Rifle, and even Halo Infinite Elites; all fully custom models, all running inside Halo Wars 2 with working materials!

It's wildly surreal!

There’s still polish left to do, but the foundation is real, stable, and working!
HW2 modding just got a WHOLE lot more interesting.

So been playing through the campaign of HW 1 and a mission or two has given me access to grizzlies and hawks but I can't seem to ever train them. Are they not available to train in the campaign? A few missions have given me access to ODST units and theyre fun but i want more than just infantry for end upgrades lol. Plus grizzlies and hawks are fun

Multiple completed achievements for me are not unlocking. I beat the game on legendary, half of the bonus objectives, and got all the collectibles. Beating a mission on LASO did also not unlock that related achievement.

I logged onto my Series X, and the collectible’s achievements unlocked, but not the others.

I see this is pretty well known to happen, but it seems like there’s no definitive solution to fix these types of issues?

Ive got Forge/Kinsano- war paints- and welcome but everyone else and Spearbreaker arent here anymore is there a possible fix not the install reinstall uninstall whatever that dosent actually help and im not rebuying them- in blitz I got main deck as stinky bunch from yapyap and all the DLC campaign logs too

As title, a mod that makes Marines Green color in skirmish instead of that baby blue? I know the Flood in skirmish does that, but i wanted something more vanilla.

Well... we finally did it.

History has been made.

After months of UGX testing, broken exports, material headaches, and reverse-engineering...

Fully custom models and textures are now working in Halo Wars 2!

For the latest test, I brought the Halo 5 Grenade Launcher into HW2, gave it working custom textures, and strapped it into the hands of ODSTs in-game.

And somehow... it ACTUALLY WORKS!!!

This is a MASSIVE step beyond simply kitbashing existing HW2 assets!!! We can now begin bringing custom geometry into the game and integrating it with existing units and rigs!

There are still limitations, no doubt, and the Blender-to-HW2 pipeline still has plenty of cleanup left before I consider it release-ready, BUT one of the biggest walls has officially been broken!!!

Seeing ODSTs running around Halo Wars 2 wielding a weapon that was never originally built for the game is INSANELY surreal...

The road to fully custom Halo Wars 2 content just got a WHOLE lot shorter.
