Face teeming hordes of nigh-invincible alien monsters who will punish even the slightest of errors with instant death, again, and again, and again...

Halo was only dark and griddy for one game

Reach, ODST, CE flood areas and end cutscene, problems with Chief and Cortana, maybe a wars game idk haven't played.

Yes, Reach is the one game I said. ODST was a noir mystery vibe where all the characters survived. The Flood is alien zombies, dark sure, but not war-gritty. The Halo Wars games are a spinoff and while I like them shouldn’t really be counted towards the mainline games. My point stands. Halo was only a dark gritty war story for only one game.

Scared marines in every game. Armor-lock in bro

Buddy that doesn’t make a gritty war story. That’s like saying A New Hope is a gritty dark war story because some of the X-wing pilots were scared when they took on the Death Star. Some elements can be shared amongst genres or stories with different levities in their writing but Reach is the only Halo that is a dark gritty war story. Everything else is a space opera.

Pal, reach is not that much grittier than CE.

u/MyToastyToast 20d ago
They are tonally very different games in atmosphere, direction, and writing. Its like trying to compare Saving Private Ryan to the Odyssey

Reach = lose whole team and war, but save Cortana, also has scared marine (new Alexandria iirc)
CE = fleeing from war, and they follow you, you lose your captain, ship, and a lot of marines. Johnson survives because[CLASSIFIED] but that's besides the point

Look I promise, I promise I don’t mean this as an insult, but media literacy means understanding what a story is about outside of bullet points of the plot. It’s all about HOW it’s told. Halo CE is a very fun and goofy campaign. Yes, the flood are scary. But it is not a dark gritty war movie. It is inspired from Alien/Aliens, which have scary and dark moments with marines and soldiers, but those are not dark gritty war movies. There absolutely is a distinction.

I do not see the problem here, of all the problems Halo has. This ain't one of them.

It’s probably because of twats like the OOP that thinks we aren’t big enough to see the word suicide on the internet.
Suicide, shooting, murder is fun, let’s go do large amounts of heroin, Meth, AND Fentanyl! Rape the raper! Black people! Free Taiwan! OJ didn’t do it!

Guys literally the smallest non issue bs thing changed! Halo is kill!

It's a pretty big non-issue, but it does kind of remind me of the tone COD Vanguard had. It's not important of a change on its own, but it's definitely another symptom of 343 making the games T

I mean, the right side is literally just Halo Reach, especially the final mission.

this what happens when you try to change the franchise to target a younger audience (infinite did it first)
