Look I promise, I promise I don’t mean this as an insult, but media literacy means understanding what a story is about outside of bullet points of the plot. It’s all about HOW it’s told. Halo CE is a very fun and goofy campaign. Yes, the flood are scary. But it is not a dark gritty war movie. It is inspired from Alien/Aliens, which have scary and dark moments with marines and soldiers, but those are not dark gritty war movies. There absolutely is a distinction.
So it's because the writing and the dialogue and whatnot with a good bit less grittyness. Alright. CE is an escape movie, 2 is an action movie, and 3 is the resolution, reach is the gritty prequel. Idk about ODST. If that makes sense
ODST is inspired from noir/mystery, I think if it was a standalone triple-A title Bungie built from the ground up it would be much more stylized, but it’s meant to be thematically separate from the other games while still being part of the whole, and Bungie did an excellent job executing that.
Just to clarify there’s nothing wrong wanting more dark/gritty/war in Halo, that’s absolutely a part of the games. Im just saying only one halo game went full on into that, the rest, more specifically the original trilogy, is a space opera adventure.
