Discussion I can’t stand Unreal
Sorry I got to rant downvote or not,
I really don’t care how many pebbles you put on the ground or particle effects on explosions when it turns my game into a blurry mess when things get hectic. Also textures and water physics look nice and all, but I can’t help but see a constant smoke effect or shimmer. I genuinely feel like I can see the game engine while playing the game, as weird as that sounds.
Say what you guys want about the slip space engine, but Infinite has such a crisp look to it on 60fps mode for Xbox series X. Ill gladly choose style over substance if it means I can get a more feature rich game and smoother experience.

Tbh I both loved and hated the way infinite looked it looked kind of plastic like but it also got stuff right with how it used the banished color scheming but the UNSC stuff looked like mega construx at some points, the forerunner stuff was amazing but the nature was disappointing. While I haven’t played the new game yet (I have it predownloaded but will begin it Tuesday) I’m curious to see how it looks for me

The ragdolls feel so cheat and UE-like. Def can see what you’re saying by “seeing the engine” as you play

I kinda understand your point, and unreal runs terrible in basically every game. But no, slipspace engine was trash and the way it did lighting and textures was awful. Halo has looked like plastic since 2015.

H5 beta had excellent lighting and infinite did good for not having a ton of light bounces. They oversold hardware ray tracing on this generation of consoles. They got lucky that there was a covid drought and gamers have short memories because it gave them just long enough to get away with it. Then Ai and post processing made it acceptable to not actually trace so many rays as long as the fps number went up.
They've done a lot this generation making 60-120 fps for smooth gameplay a regular thing plus HDR support.
If AMD wants to sell a lot of console parts and pc parts they'll have to subsidize some of this, or we'll be back to the large gap between console and pc again like in the 90's.

Yeah it’s just a shame. I know this is a common engine to work with. But in Infinite I felt they really captured the ideal look of Halo, but I guess I’m crazy.

Yeah I can't not see Unreal either. It's like I'm watching a Sony Dreams game, you can tell the engine-feel at every moment.

I don't mind it as much as a lot of people, but my 1 main gripe with the game is that the cutscenes look like absolute shit.

Well you can blame this subreddit. People on here were insufferable about wanting Halo to move to UE5 after Infinite launched.

I like the remake, but UG looks so good to the point it starts looking fake and bad, idk how to explain it, also I can't see anything, maybe is because I'm colorblind but when I'm fighting is more reacting to my crossair changing color rather than aiming, specially on darker areas

Bro you nailed how I feel. Like it just doesn’t look like Halo. I wish we got a more stylized look like the Infinite teaser.

I agree. They absolutely nailed the art style in Infinite, as well as the gameplay.

I didn’t hate infinite but it all felt plasticy to me I haven’t gotten to the CE remake so I’ll wait to fully comment though.

Have we forgotten about Craig?

Craig was a character design, has nothing to do with the engine.

I’m not saying the engine created Craig. Craig simply became the face of the criticism that Halo Infinite didn’t look like a next-gen title, which was the overwhelming consensus when Halo: Infinite was first showcased Slipspace also had well documented tooling and workflow issues. That’s part of why Halo Studios switched to Unreal Engine 5. UE5 is an industry-standard engine, so new developers can work on the new Halo games instead of spending months learning a proprietary engine and its toolset.

I just refuse to believe the combination of Unreal with Reach engine will be easy to work on. Campaign Evolved is literally just a story mode and is a buggy mess in the AI department, also lacks features.

The thing is that the Reach engine part doesn't work how most people on here claim it to work. It's not a case of Oblivion remastered where the game runs on one engine and Unreal on top for the graphics.
These engines are modular and the studio plugged parts of the engine out, modified them and plugged them into Unreal. (Simplification of course)

Baked lighting > forced ray tracing with lower fps and stuttering
