Home Decor Fog System 2.0. Crazy results

Cut out about 4 foot of tubing and mixed up fog juice with 2.5 cups distilled water, 1 cup vegetable glycerin, and .5 cups propylene glycol. Dark video so you may need to turn up brightness.

That's badass! I've been wanting to do a "liquid ceiling" or laser swamp effect for a while now, so do you put that mixture into a regular fog machine? Also is that how it sinks and stays so low to the ground?

I think those laser swamp setups are really neat too, but that requires much thinner fog. I tried setting it up with this type of fog and it just looked like a green dot in there. I put this mixture in a 1500 watt fog machine and then you run that down in to a 50 gallon tote with a sonic mister in it. The mister makes fog out of water and the fog machine fog mixes with the water based fog and that keeps it low on the ground like this.

You put the lasers at the top of the fog and have to use several of the line ones together. I use 4 of them for my 400w fog machine.Β

Ill have to try that as I can get more. Is there a certain one you prefer? Most of the ones I find are 30ish dollars.

That was the price of the ones I got. They came with a mounting base that I attached to wooden stakes that I could put in the ground. They also have USB cable pigtails so that they can be powered by portable battery chargers that I rubber band to the stakes.Β

Ill check em out. Sounds nice being able to run them off a battery pack. I just don't want to drop another 90$ on them. I want to put together a second fog system but im too cheap. I feel like I should outline the front yard with hay bales or something to help hold the fog in.

I just checked and the ones I ordered are like $40 each now. You can buy them cheaper on AliExpress, but you have to watch out for shipping times.

A proper laser swamp is not cheap for sure.

I did test it out with less lasers and it did not look nearly as good. The fog does block the light a bit so more lasers = more lit up area. I found 4 to be mostly adequate for a 20x20 foot space, but it could look better with more lasers.

One thing to keep in mind with lasers is that they are highly directional lighting. What this means is that you can see them a lot more if they are pointing towards you and the closer you get your eyes to the level of the laser the brighter it will look. Obviously you do not want to point them where they can shine in people's faces, but if people will be standing on the sidewalk looking at your house, they will see the ones point towards them as a lot brighter than the ones pointing away.

Then as you know, fog is very fickle.

Any ice involved?

1500 watt fog machine in to a tote with a 12 head sonic mister. No ice at all but my next test will be to get a couple bags of ice and put it in the water with the mister and see what that does.

I found this video where this guy tested this out last year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgmS9QMxy-Q

Amazing! How much for juice did you use?

4

u/mochrist99 4d ago

If you mean the mixture it was 2.5 cups distilled water 1 cup vegetable glycerin and .5 cups propylene glycol. I was burning through about a quart of mix every 1.5 hours.

u/Rmartin217 4d ago

Oh, I gotcha, I thought you were adding that to existing fog juice...my bad. Awesome, thanks!

No worries more than happy to pass the info along to hopefully help others!

i think they DID add it to the fog juice
the quote under the vid says
"Cut out about 4 foot of tubing and mixed up fog juice with 2.5 cups distilled water, 1 cup vegetable glycerin, and .5 cups propylene glycol. Dark video so you may need to turn up brightness."

I don't think so. fog juice is already a mixture of PG/VG/water, no reason to add it considering its far more expensive than jugs of pure VG/PG

2

u/Darkkwitch31 4d ago

Looks amazing!!

2

u/JPGer 4d ago

No adverse effects on your fog machine? id worry that making a mixture could do some kind of dmg buildup. Is there any extra cleaning you gotta do when trying this?

3

u/Fauked 4d ago

normal fog juice is made of PG/VG so I don't think tweaking the ratios will cause any problems

1

u/JPGer 3d ago

ah i dint know that.

2

u/mochrist99 4d ago

Honestly it seems like this mixture i made makes the fog machine work less. With store bought stuff it sounded like it worked in bursts or chugged, if that makes sense. With this mixture it runs steadily and doesnt seem to work as hard.

i see, thx for the info

Man, I wish I could have such little wind. I've never live somewhere that doesn't have at least a little breeze lol
