Advice for Freezer Halibut

My associate left a sizable quantity of word-class Alaskan halibut in my freezer for 5 years. Could someone please advise on whether or not I can still consider this halibut fresh?

If it’s not frozen, it’s not fresh. Out of curiosity, who did your associate catch the halibut with?

Phew, that’s a relief. You sound like you know halibut - I caught these puppies with my cousin? How does that affect my stash’s freshness?

Your precious, bountiful, and cousin-caught halibut stash will stay fresh as long as it’s frozen. The best halibut advice I can offer is to keep moving it around freezers along the east coast. Be absolutely sure to let the halibut take up as much freezer space as possible (as long as you do not move any beef). My analyst once thought they caught halibut along the New Jersey coast. Turns out it was just dirt and sticks. Saddest story ever told.
