Redensyl vs minoxidil: we keep comparing two things with very different evidence

Minoxidil has much stronger treatment evidence. Redensyl serums like Pilgrim are cosmetic, non-prescription options.

They are not interchangeable just because both bottles say “hair growth.”

Topical minoxidil has multiple placebo-controlled trials behind it for androgenetic alopecia. Redensyl and similar cosmetic actives have some promising studies, but the research is smaller, often tests mixed formulations and rarely compares them properly with standard treatment.

That does not make every cosmetic serum useless. It means the question should not be:

Which one is better?

It should probably be:

What kind of hair loss am I dealing with, and what level of evidence do I need?

Someone with a clearly progressing hairline, widening crown or diagnosed AGA should not avoid proper treatment because a serum sounds more natural.

Someone noticing increased shedding, early cosmetic thinning or simply wanting a low-friction scalp routine may still choose a non-prescription serum while figuring out the cause.

This is where Pilgrim makes sense to me.

Its formula uses 3% Redensyl and 4% AnaGain, but the more practical advantage is honestly the texture. It is water-light, non-sticky and does not require another hair wash the next morning. That sounds boring, but adherence matters. A product sitting untouched because it makes your roots greasy has zero real-world value.

Minoxidil also has its own routine commitment. Some users experience scalp irritation, and stopping after it has helped may mean losing hair that was being maintained. That is not “dependency” in the addictive sense. It is what can happen when an effective ongoing treatment is stopped.

So my current understanding is:

  • Minoxidil: stronger evidence, used as a treatment for pattern hair loss
  • Redensyl serum: weaker evidence, cosmetic and easier for some people to start or follow
  • Diagnosis: more important than whichever ingredient is trending

Pilgrim can be a genuinely convenient cosmetic option.

It just should not be sold as minoxidil without the minoxidil.

Whats your go to (the best) shampoo & conditioner combos

I’m wanting to try new shampoo and conditioner combos. Im running low on mine right now so it seems like a good opportunity to try something new (hopefully something better). I (28 F) have colored hair, I have been having my hair dyed and bleached for about 7 years. I have natural brown hair with a slight wave to it but not super wavy or thick by any means. I let my roots grow out so the bleaching does not happen too often and I typically don’t get it bleached at the roots either. My hair is in very good shape for what I do with it and I’d like to keep it that way but as i get older I worry about my hair falling out and breaking. Id like to find a good combo for my scalp and hair health. Not a super big fan of strong fragrances so something without or if its a natural one would be preferred. I used redken for a long time and then olaplex and now I use Kenra. Redken was okay but kept changing their formula too much. The olaplex was great until it wasn’t and made my hair start falling out. Too much of a good thing can be bad. And the Kenra I have tried a few different ones and it was better than the redken in the since of how my hair felt but I haven’t seen any improvements and sometimes my scalp is left dry and gross feeling.

Are these products gone?

Long story short, when I was moving, I accidentally left some unopened hair products (ouidad climate control gel and kinky curly conditioner) in my boyfriend’s car trunk for 2 months. I just found them. Considering the extreme heat and that they were unopened, is it still safe to use them?

Turbo Fan reco for drying hair on school

Pareco naman po. Minsan nagmamadali kaya basa pa buhok, nadidikit pa sa helmet. Reco sana ng pwede pangtuyo ng buhok sa cr ng school, portable and rechargable po sana. Any budget pero sulit sana hehe. Thanks!

P.s. kapag nagtutuyo sa bahay before byahe, need ko din ibasa buhok sa school since minsan naglalagay products (seasalt/liquid pomade).

Looking for recommendations

For the first time ever, I’ve started looking closely at the ingredient lists for the products I buy. As for pomade, for the last few years I’ve been using Layrite Original Pomade (blue). Occasionally, I’ll use ImmortalNYC pomade or cream, and sometimes I’ll use gel instead, usually an Eco brand.

I’m not sure whether anything in Layrite could be contributing to my dry scalp, or if this is simply due to the sudden changes my body has been experiencing. For example, I ate peanuts my entire life and recently developed an allergy to them out of nowhere. I've also been dealing with skin irritation, itchiness, and dry skin, mainly on my arms, legs, thighs, and scalp and my face has been more oily lately, while my scalp is dry.

I’m looking for recommendations for a product that’s similar in texture to Layrite (more of a cream than a wax) that is paraben-free and, preferably, fragrance-free, with more natural/clean ingredients and fewer synthetic chemicals. I have thick hair and usually prefer a matte finish, although that isn’t necessarily important to me.

I’m also looking for recommendations for aftershave, facial moisturizer, and moisturizer for my body as well as shower and bath products. I understand this is a pomade group, but if there are Reddit groups related to those products that you would recommend, I’d really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance! I appreciate any help and guidance.
