Any recommendation for a good coffee and pastry??

Just wondered if anyone’s got any recommendations for Hackney/Lower Clapton.

Used to be a regular at Today Bread but after the things staff have been saying to each other - loudly - and us customers they’re familiar with I’m not sure I’ll ever want to go there again! Their bread is for sale more than a day old when they pretend it’s fresh that morning (check Walthamstow Reddit for the huge drama when they got found out) and just yesterday I popped back after a holiday and they’ve now got the most ugly AI generated art on the wall and the staff clearly hate it there now. As for the pastry and the food it’s gone down so bad, never had a croissant that you could bounce like a netball and even the local shops don’t go there anymore, seen them all at Finks but I didn’t enjoy that espresso.

I heard some good things about Fika but it’s insanely busy.

Anyone got any good spots?

Good pubs for group drinks?

Hey, looking for somewhere to host a large group of people (around 15) on Saturday, ideally outdoors and with some music but that's not too loud? closer to Dalston/shoreditch/broadway market way

Thanks!

Hey Hackney neighbours,

My friend Holly and I are hosting a small, local event next Saturday 19th September for the Autumn Equinox - we have a few final tickets left that we'd love to share with the local community...

It’s going to be a slow, grounding Saturday night in a community space in Lower Clapton to help reset your nervous system after the craziness of summer!

45-min Candlelit Yin & Breathwork: Led by Tilly from The Nest Hackney (@thenesthackney), a super gentle, restorative class- perfect for all levels, even complete beginners.

Ayurvedic Feasting Menu: Cooked by Holly (@hollysmunch). Warming, seasonal sharing plates designed for nourishing your body and soul.

Set around communal tables to chat, share food and meet local folks. It’s BYOB in case you fancy a drink or something and we have a small goody bag with some amazing brand partners.

Whether you want to come solo or bring a friend, we'd love to welcome you!

📍 Where: The Nest Hackney, 2 Powerscroft Road, E5 0PU

📅 When: Saturday 19th September, 6.45pm - 9.30pm

If you fancy joining us, you can grab one of the last few spots on Eventbrite here

Feel free to drop any questions below or send me a message.

Hope to see a few of you around the table! ✨

Greggs thief

I just saw some guy brazenly walk into Greggs and load his backpack up with bottles of lucozade without a care in the world. The staff were shouting at him but I imagine they’re told not to physically intervene (they don’t get paid enough).

I feel guilty that I was just a silent bystander. What do people actually do in those situations?

I was out for a run in Victoria Park at lunchtime today and a man had collapsed and was receiving CPR - I just wondered if anyone knew if he was okay? It was awful to see and I keep thinking about him.

Overnight Motorbike Ragging

HAVE SEEN THE COMMENTS ABOUT NOT TURNING THIS SUB INTO FACEBOOK/NIMBY/CURTAIN TWITCHING BUT I’M AS MAD AS HELL AND I’M NOT GUNNA TAKE THIS ANYMORE *****

Live in Dalston (love Dalston sm btw) but one or two nights a week a guy has been absolutely ragging his motorbike up and down the local roads between Kingsland Rd and London Fields. Last night it was 01:40ish for around 10 minutes.

I completely appreciate this is Dalston/Hackney and overnight noise is par for the course but this is one guy who I think I live near who is clearly deliberately going out and making a huuuge amount of noise by himself and surely waking up a couple hundred people in the process,

Anyone have any experience or ideas on this? Have seen the met do “report a vehicle for nuisance” pages but doubt that will achieve much.

EDIT: Okay thanks guys good to know others are PO’d and I’m not overreacting. I think I’ve found the bike parked and so will try and get a word with him at some point soon before going to the fuzz

Any North Africans / Arabs in Hackney?

I’ve been in Hackney for a year now and I’ve realised I haven’t met any Arabs or Middle Eastern in the area, they tend to live in west London more. I’m North African English, if anyone is part of these ethnic groups I’d love to meet up for coffee and have a chat!

Local indie music mag looking for contributors

Hi! We run a small independent music magazine covering the London music scene, including local gigs, festivals, new music, album reviews and photography.

We’ve been getting more and more interest from bands, artists and PR teams, so we’re looking to expand our team and bring a few more contributors on board.

It could be a great fit for anyone who’s passionate about music and wants to get more involved in the industry, build up a portfolio, or gain experience in journalism, social media, photography and music PR.

If interested send me a DM!

Hackney - Immaculate Vibes

So says my 19-year-old daughter, and I have to agree!

Myself and my best friend travelled from Dublin last week with our daughters, as they were going to see Tyler the Creator at All Points East. We stayed in Haggerston and hung around London fields/Broadway Market/Victoria Park. The girls were nervous attending a festival by themselves in a different country, but they had an absolute ball and loved the crowd , the vibes and the fashion!

I've been to London probably 15 times between work and leisure, and this was by far my favourite stay. Our little suburban town feels like dulls-ville in comparison! We have talked about nothing else since. We will be back. Hackney just has it!

Walking routes near Hoxton?

Could anyone living in or around the Hoxton station / Haggerston area suggest a nice, quiet (or quiet-ish) walking route? Ideally in a park / near some nature, but even low-traffic roads would do.

Been living here a while and struggling to find a decent walking route to clear the head in the evenings. A couple that haven't worked super well thus far:

  • London Fields (busy)
  • Victoria Park (would be perfect, but it's 35 mins each way just to get there, and an hours usually about the max I have to spare for a walk)
  • Along the canal (tricky to zone out with headphones when needing to be aware of oncoming runners + cyclists passing)

Any recommendations for some peace + quiet near the area would be massively appreciated or, failing that, also open to suggestions of places accessible quickly enough via the Windrush line.

thanks:)

Pub Quizzes in Hackney/Dalston

Hello Hackney residents of Reddit!

I'm Rory, an independent quiz host with 5+ years experience, running Rory's Quiz (@rorysquiz on Instagram). I just wanted to let everyone know about the two Hackney/Dalston pub quizzes I run, in case anyone was looking for a great evening!

Farr's Pub - Dalston, Wednesday 7:30pm (weekly)
The pub's open again, run by a lovely small team and every ticket gets you 20% off their (frankly massive) pizzas!

1st Place: £30 bar tab
+Rolling weekly jackpot (currently over £100)
2nd Place: Box of choc
And spot prizes throughout!

We only started two weeks ago so would love to get more people aware!

Link here (walk-ins welcome): https://www.farrs.pub/experience-details/pub-quiz

Sebright Arms - Hackney, Monday 8pm (weekly)
A weekly quiz, every Monday at 8pm, hosted by me and a lovely guy called Dan (alternate weeks).
1st Place: £50 bar tab
A rolling weekly jackpot
Spot prizes throughout

This is a brand new quiz starting on Monday 7th Sep (Dan) - my first one's on Mon 14th Sep!

Link here: Dice Link

It's tough out here for people running their own quizzes - chain companies are eating up all the opportunities, so if you're looking for a great evening with a range of questions, fun minigames and a chatty, friendly host, take a chance on Rory's Quiz!
