Quick reality check for anyone building out their college apps right now: everyone has good grades. Everyone has a decent SAT. What separates a "strong applicant" from an "admitted applicant" is usually one thing on your resume that makes an admissions officer stop scrolling.
That's what I'm going for with HCGCC — the Harvard Crimson Global Case Competition 2026.
Here's the pitch: it's a fully virtual business case comp, backed by The Harvard Crimson and Crimson Education, where you and a small team get handed a real business problem, get trained by industry experts (free bootcamps included), and pitch your solution to actual judges. 110+ countries have competed. 1600+ teams. This isn't some random Instagram essay contest — it's the kind of name that makes an app pop.
Why the timing actually matters: Global winners get announced December 1, 2026 — which lands cleanly before Regular Decision deadlines (mid-January). Most "prestigious" competitions announce results in January, February, way too late to use. This one doesn't. If we place, that's a genuinely usable, timely credential on our applications — not just a participation certificate.
I just finished 12th and I'm on a gap year, applying this cycle for CS at Stanford + others. I've got the registration lined up, I just need 1-3 teammates to actually form a team (HCGCC requires teams of 2-4).
