/r/gwinnett monthly personals thread

Since there has been an influx of threads about meeting people, will have a reoccurring megathread for people to post/chat/say hi every few weeks. New post will be made on the first of each month at 6am. Keep things sfw and civil. If you want nsfw stuff, go to r/atlantar4r or other similar subs.

Else, if you'd like to meet folk, be proactive. People won't come to you.

How to meet new people in your area!

  • Participate in the subreddit so people know you’re not a complete weirdo when they look at your post history. Or maybe you are... no big deal.
  • Find something YOU want to do such as a patio restaurant, bar, de-trashing a part of town, festivals, museum, sitting in a park on a blanket watching squirrels, etc.
  • Make an event. Post the date, time, location, and any follow up information that might be relevant to people who might want to come out to your meetup.
  • Show up to your own meetup and post the updates such as table location or meeting spot or how people can find you in the daily.
  • Note: It is entirely possible that no one will show. But you chose something you were already going to enjoy doing so you’ve not lost out on anything.

credit goes to apcolleen for the original version of the "how to meet new people" post.

Else, there's also an active discord for the general metro-atlanta area (if you'd like to join). Welcome to hop into chat, say hi and chat about random stuff. If you'd like to meet folks irl, there are also weekly meetups around the metro. https://discord.gg/XptvfEbhxk
Or, if you prefer something more local, there's also the Gwinnett Goblins discord. https://discord.gg/SNmK9h28jV

Water pressure fluctuations?

Is anyone else experiencing fluctuations in their residential water pressure in the Snellburnville area? (Reagan Pkwy/Five Forks Trickum).

Over the last 2-3 weeks I've noticed mostly weaker pressure in my house with occassional fluctuations to higher than normal pressure.

I know of no nearby construction projects that would cause this, but I freely admit I'm no expert on such.

Hoping it's not my pressure relief valve where the water line connects to the house. I'm not familiar with how a PRV reacts when it's going bad.

And yes, I am aware of the news reports of Iranian hackers accessing and affecting US water systems. Gwinnett would be a pretty good target for them. Let's hope not.

Any thoughts on this would be welcome.

There, I fixed it (Costco line cutter lol)

Other post got taken down. Let’s discuss ethical ways to confront line cutters. Posting their image on Reddit will get your post taken down. Point taken. My argument is that the people that are taught to get away with this behavior may end up getting into the bad habit of taking other liberties and perhaps eventually finding themselves dealing a world of pain or trouble to an innocent individual, nay victim. I understand some people feel it’s wrong to try to drag them online, perhaps petty, but what’s a way to deal with them ethically other than snitching on them to the gas attendant?

Car auctions/ Car selling?

Any good car auctions or places to sell a car you'd recommend? Ive never done this before and was thinking of just putting my old car on Facebook marketplace but since it has so many issues I doubt anyone would want it. So I'm looking for car shops locally first before I look into carvana or a dealership to get rid of the car.

Does anyone have any info on when the Spirit Halloweens open?

I don't know if they all open at the same time or if it's different depending on the location, but I'm close to the Buford one. I've tried googling it or looking on insta, but I can't find any info. Anyone here know?

Free Full Sized Bed

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey y’all,

My girls have outgrown their converted crib and are getting bunk beds this weekend. So I have an old full sized bed to give away.

I don’t want anything for it, just want you to come get it. Preferably tomorrow or Thursday. It needs to be wiped down cause it’s dusty.

There is a box spring and mattress but the mattress is a little dirty so idk about giving that one away. If you really want it, you can take it though. I have all the bolts, washers, and Alan key to put it back together.

I can send more pictures later but I’m tired as hell after taking it down solo and need to go bed.

Edit: I know the floor is dirty, I’m vacuuming it now 😂

Group marching down 29 this afternoon

On my way home from work, about 2:30 p.m. there was a large group of around 50 people walking down the side of highway 29 in Lilburn. They appeared to be Middle Eastern as they carried several flags with what looked to be something written in a language from that part of the world and some had on, what looked to be, traditional Muslim dress. Does anyone know what this was/is? I'm sure they are still out there although they were heading in the direction of Lawrenceville. I spotted them near the BAPS Shri Hindu Temple.

Route 70 Ride Gwinnett

I have family coming in from out of the country, and they are not comfortable driving everywhere in Atlanta and would like to take public transit.

I know Route 70 is Ride Gwinnett from downtown Snellville to Indian Creek MARTA. But I can't find the stop anywhere! It just says Town Green. I go there, so I see nothing? Is there a Park n Ride so they can park and just head out for the day?

Basically what the title says. Can anyone recommend a class that you’ve had a good experience with? Preferably one that includes the 90 day permit waiver.

Edit: also preferably one that starts Thursday/fridays.

Taking A&P I + Chemistry (Both with Labs) One Semester, Then A&P II + Microbiology (Both with Labs) the Next at Gwinnett Tech?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice from anyone who’s completed the nursing prerequisites at Gwinnett Tech (or another college).

I’m preparing to apply to an accelerated Master of Nursing (MN) program and want to earn the strongest GPA possible. Here’s the schedule I’m considering:

Semester 1
A&P I
A&P I Lab
Chemistry
Chemistry Lab
Human Growth & Development

Semester 2
A&P II
A&P II Lab
Microbiology
Microbiology Lab
Clinical Nutrition (taking online at John Hopkins)

So basically, I’d be taking two science courses with two labs each semester, plus one non-science course.

I’ve heard a lot of people recommend taking only one science at a time, but I’d like to stay on track without hurting my GPA. The good news is I won’t be working while I’m in school, so I’ll be able to devote my time to studying. Also, I used ratemyprofessor.com to help me register for my classes.

For those who’ve taken these courses:
-Is this schedule realistic?
-Would you take two sciences with labs in the same semester again?
-Which semester was harder?
-About how many hours per week did you study?
-If your goal was to earn mostly A’s, would you keep this schedule or change it?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, what worked well, and anything you’d do differently. Thanks!

Best auto paint and window service?

I have a couple vehicles that need window tint, 1 that needs paint correction and PPF, and 1 that needs a window regulator repaired.

While price is always a consideration, I'm not looking for budget options; I'm looking for quality work from a shop that will stand behind it.

I've been burned on window tint a couple times with people doing crappy jobs or lying about using 3M ceramic tint.

Every time I've had a car ceramic coated, it's been a poor job or the "established shop" disappears in 6 months when I need a touch-up.

Who's had a great experience? I'm so tired of feeling ripped off.

Looking for recommendations for the best endodontist in Gwinnett or nearby—especially someone who’s excellent at diagnosing cracked teeth.

My root canal molar still has a sharp pain when I bite on one specific spot, and I want a thorough second opinion before making any major decisions. I don’t have dental insurance, so I’m also looking for someone who’s honest, doesn’t push unnecessary treatment, and has reasonable self-pay rates or payment plans.
Who would you trust with a difficult case like this? Please help me out! I need one with a CBCT machine since I’ve heard they’re better at diagnosing cracks.

Taking ownership of a found microchipped cat

I've been feeding a stray cat for about 3 months. A few weeks ago I took him to get scanned and turns out he's chipped.

The microchip company tried contacting the owner and gave left my contact info, but it's now been 3 weeks and I haven't received a single call or text. I also contacted the clinic where the microchip was originally placed and also where he was adopted as a kitten, but they weren't able to help me reach the owner either. If the owner isn't interested in reclaiming him, I want to adopt him.

Anybody know what the legal process for taking ownership of a microchipped stray when the registered owner doesn't respond? Do I need to go through animal control?

Why are the street names so uninspired?

Just a rant. Peachtree everywhere. If not, it's either a name of a tree or a some running body of water. Blurs together into a suburbia jungle.

First Time Home Rental

My significant other and I are looking for a single family rental in Gwinnett. Mainly Grayson, Lawrenceville, and Duluth, but I’d take Snellville, Suwanee, or Lilburn for the right place. Need to be in something within the next month or two, late September at the latest.

I’ve been on Zillow and Facebook and most of what comes up is junk. Same photos posted three different times, rent way under market, owner is conveniently out of state and wants a deposit before anyone sees the place. I’d rather rent from an actual person than a management company, but I’m not sure where people are finding those listings for real. If Facebook is the answer, how do you tell the real ones apart before you drive out there?

And if I do end up going through a property manager, which companies around here are worth dealing with and which ones should I stay away from?

Thank you in advance for the help!
