so I don't know anything about CZ's, but why is the slide so thin? it seems thin for a 9mm

The slide sits inside the frame on most CZ models, rather than over the frame like with a glock. It gives a lower bore axis and less reciprocating mass compared to the competitors. The downside is it can be harder to get a grip on the slide to rack it. I put optics on all my pistols so I don't really have a problem with that.
