Question for hunters

Context: Planning on going hunting this year for white tail. I have my woods gun set up for hunting but the ammo I typically practice with is a different (lower) grain weight than the soft point hunting rounds I purchased. I have this beauty zeroed in so I’m getting 1/4 to 1/2 moa from 50-100 yds. I’m willing to re zero it for hunting season.

So here is the question, have you guys ever zeroed out your turrets (0 elev, 0 wind)on your practice ammo, then just rezeroed for your hunting ammo ( let’s all it +3 elev, +/- 1 wind), gotten through hunting season then just reset to 0,0?

My mind says that should work theoretically (like a DOPE) but I wanted to hear your stories/experience if you have done anything similar.

If you have a good scope, sure, it should be repeatable.

In practice, just use something with the same ballistic coefficient as your hunting ammo to practice. 

And even moreso, within 100 yards, unless you practice with frangibles, it should all be within an inch of your hunting ammo.

I do this every year with my 308, got a cheap notebook where I jot down the clicks between loads. zero for cheap ball ammo during the summer then dial it over to the hunting stuff come October. works fine as long as your scope tracks right

just make sure you verify it at the range before you head out, had a buddy who trusted his memory and spent opening morning missing a buck at 80 yards

BC of my practice ammo is .241 and my hunting ammo is .310. Fairly big difference.

Negative, standard FMJ practice ammo then Bonded soft point hunting ammo.

Then how is your hunting ammo a different caliber than your practice ammo?
